I am at a loss to explain so many things in this case. I really want Jessica found for her sake and for her family's sake, but I live here, you know. I want whoever is responsible put away where he can't steal people anymore! This is my home and I don't want to be afraid here. It's one thing to have that vague sense that a predator could be anywhere. It's another to KNOW there is one who is probably within a stone's throw of you, your family, your friends. And you know if someone gets away with this, they are not going to check it off their bucket list and be done with it. They are going to do it again. It makes me sick to my stomach.

hiello! I agree with you; except I think we should all ASSUME there is a predator within a stones throw--probably a few. and teach our children the same. I told my kids to assume theres one on EVERY corner. id rather have kids scared of the thought of it than the actuality!

Anyone care to speculate WHY LE would announce that the FBI was doing a profile, and then not release it? Could the FBI still be working on it? How long does something like that take? Could they have come up with nothing useful? If they came up with a profile, what reason could LE have to not release it to the public?

Just one more thing that makes no sense to me.

Because the FBI rarely ever releases info to the public, that's just how they work. It's not up to the local LE to release what the FBI has put together. Not to mention that this profile may not be completed yet, they may still be working on it.

In abduction cases, is it usually announced that the FBI will be working on them, or is that something that is usually kept under wraps, but it was told in this particular case, do you know?

I don't want my son growing up with this fear. I wonder if there's anywhere left on this planet where you can really be free of this burden. I think this sense of not being safe has a negative effect on growing psyches. There are studies about these effects on children who grow up in war-torn countries. Are our kids being subjected to a more subtle version of the same thing?

It Absolutely does have an effect Flutterby. It is sad, and it changes how a person sees this world.Especially from people growing up/having to leave their home due to communism and socialism at least from the standpoint of the 1940's, Pommerania, or Prussia, which is now Poland. To witness the horrors of That, I would go mad!!!!! Thank God I never had to endure what MY family has been through.........

There are children all over the world who are still living this reality today. And then we have the ones here , terrorized in their own homes, by their own parents. The world likes to pretend that our children are our priority and our treasures, but if that was really the case, human beings would not subject their babies to these horrors.

Think of the fear Jessica's little son must live with now. Your mommy can just disappear from your life with no warning or explanation. My heart breaks for this child.

Man Vans

Move over, Aston Martin. If James Bond were real and he decided to finally settle down, ad agencies would have you believe that the Chrysler Town and Country S is his car of choice. Available in black to complement its chrome grille, 17-inch wheel inserts, and black-leather interior (steering wheel included), this modern minivan is marketed to men instead of moms.

Thanks for posting this. I have never thought that the possibility that a minivan was involved in Jessica's disappearance was necessarily an indicator that the perp was a "family man". People drive what they want, and I doubt that the vehicle of choice (or a company car) is a barometer of marital status, financial means, etc.

There are several Chrysler employees in my neighborhood who probably drive company-owned vehicles and have little or no choice in the matter. There are also some folks in my sub who drive monster pickup trucks that seem out-of-character in this upscale community. DH had a minivan in the early 90s simply because they were popular; we were basically empty-nesters with our DD away at college most of the time and didn't really need a minivan. I had luxury cars for many years (Riviera, Aurora) but now drive a cute red Beetle because I've wanted one since high school :)

The fact that there have been no searches tells me that they don't think she's in the area at all.

And the lack of urgency is indicating to me that they think she may have left voluntarily. She had so many things to not do this for though. Her son, her job, her relationship, her family. How many people walk away from work voluntarily, just to leave their life behind to start a new one or to get away from everything they have???

I realize it does happen, but there has been no mention of money being taken from the station. As a matter of fact, LE said that the cash drawer was left alone. And she had several hundred dollars in her purse, which was left behind. Even if someone wanted to appear to be kidnapped, it would make sense to stage a robbery as well. I don't believe Jessica left willingly. That cash would have been too easy to take along. Other facets of this case may not be what they appear to be, but I do believe she was abducted.

Additionally, LE really has no obligation to release details of their investigation to the media or even to family members. We don't have "sunshine laws" in Michigan, so very often, little is known about many cases when there are eventually arrests and cases go to trial.

Hmmmm....thinking about this...transportation to a construction site? In earlier threads we discussed the van, how it would be odd for a male to have this van unless he had a family, was using it for work (traveling sales person, company vehicle, etc.), rental...

I wonder if all the rental agencies in Michigan have been notified by LE to pull their rental records...I know that's a lot of agencies...maybe all this can be easily found out through a national database search by the major rental companies, Budget, etc...

I can think of one good way how a suspect can easily obtain and change vehicles without attracting too much attention.

The suspect could have a relative that owns a used vehicle dealership. Or the suspect could be an employee or owner of a used vehicle dealership.

Either way it would give a suspect access to vehicles registered in another name without anyone knowing or linking the vehicle as being involved in the commission of a crime.

I wonder if the van that was involved in the abduction had regular license plate, dealer’s license plate, or temporary tags on the vehicle.

Jessica Heeringa’s 3-year-old son, Zevyn, looks for his mother wherever he goes.
“Isn’t that heartbreaking?” asked the boy’s great-grandmother, Diane Homrich.

It’s been nearly two months since Jessica Heeringa, 25, was abducted from a Norton Shores gas station and convenience store where she worked. She remains missing.

Also from the above article:
"They talked to a counselor and decided they needed to tell him something,” Homrich said of Zevyn. “They told him his mommy is lost. That is something he can understand.”

"Massive police efforts have gone into the investigation and search for Heeringa, including a multi-agency task force. Norton Shores Police Chief Dan Shaw said that task force has since been downsized, but he still has four full-time officers working exclusively on the case.

“It’s a high-priority case for us,” he said.

Shaw said the department receives 10-15 Silent Observer tips each day, but only a handful of those receive priority treatment. Many of the calls are about rumors, he said, and some are about people they’ve already investigated for the case."

<I'm curious as to the nature of the rumors>

Especially if it was mentioned "some" are about people they have already investigated....which to me, means, more than one person had tips or rumors about the same people that have already been investigated.Hum, points to ponder....In My Opinion....
