Autopsy: Missing Troy woman was strangled to death

Mike Martindale, The Detroit News 7:55 p.m. EDT May 4, 2016

Hazel Park — The body of a 21-year-old Troy woman, missing for over a week, was found in the Hazel Park home of a friend, the woman’s mother said Wednesday.

An autopsy Wednesday by the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the manner of Jessica White’s death was “homicide” and the cause was “strangulation by ligature.” She had been the subject of a search since she failed to return to her mother’s home on April 23 after a late-night visit with the friend.

Police Chief Martin Barner said the suspect — whom he identified as Jordan McClanahan — was accompanied by his father when surrendered to Troy Police at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday...

The body of 21-year-old Troy resident Jessica White, who had been missing for more than a week after visiting a friend in Hazel Park, was discovered by police Tuesday evening inside the attic of her friend’s home.

The woman’s friend is now in custody after allegedly showing police where White’s body was hidden inside his home.

White, whose body was severely decomposed after being found, died from strangulation by ligature, according to the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Hazel Park Police Chief Martin Barner shared a report detailing that Hazel Park resident Jordan Donald McClanahan, 23, came to the Troy Police Department after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, to talk to detectives.

I've been following this, so I wonder if the perp's father was involved, because of her last text. RIP Jessica.:moo:

So far, Jordan's father hasn't been implicated in the murder of Jessica White. At least one of the news stories indicated that Jordan's father accompanied him to the Troy Police Department when the young man turned himself in to authorities and told them where he hid the body. I wonder if Jordan's father knew about the body hidden in the attic? Maybe he could be charged with impeding the investigation or lying to LE to protect his son. Arraignment sometime today, but I haven't found a time yet.

...McClanahan's family members took him to Troy police department Tuesday night after he indicated what had happened. Barner said McClanahan admitted he was responsible for White's death...

He said the family members didn't know about the body, and they've been cooperative with the investigation. Barner described the space where the body was found as a roof-line storage area inside the bungalow...

Free Press article indicates "family members" escorted Jordan to TPD and that they didn't know about the body in the attic.

Jordan's arraignment is sometime this afternoon, but I haven't seen the time of the hearing or a live stream link. I'll keep looking.

I have a problem with the "search" that was conducted of the house. When I filed a missing persons report on my brother the first time he left, the detective came to my house, asked if he could look around (of course) and that included opening up every attic/crawlspace opening in closets and my laundry room. This obviously wasn't done here.

It wouldn't have helped her by the time they were searching, but it would have given her family and friends the answer sooner.

If I wasn't working tonight, I'd go to the vigil. I'll be thinking about her.

i believe I read that the only way into the crawl space was a trap door that he had covered with a desk.
