Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says she will
announce Monday whether perjury or other charges will be filed
against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and former Chief of Staff
Christine Beatty. Worthy's office has been investigating testimony
they gave during a whistle-blowers' lawsuit last summer.

Meanwhile, barricades have been erected around the Manoogian Mansion, blocking traffic from going into the neighborhood or going out.

At this time Fox 2, after speaking with the Mayor's office and Detroit Police, was not able to learn why the barricades were erected.

Does the Mayor's Executive Protection Unit have the right to close down the roads in the Manoogian neighborhood, and did they make the decision?

Is there a threat against the Mayor or his family?

Are the barricades just being used to keep the media away?

We will work to get answers to those questions. HERE'S THE BIG QUESTION

DO YOU THINK PERJURY OR ANY CHARGES WILL BE FILED AGAINST KWAME KILAPTRICK?

SOUND OFF AND BE HEARD. KEEP IT CLEAN AND RESPECTFUL OF OTHER BLOGGERS, SOME OF YOUR COMMENTS MAY BE USED ON THE AIR.

I can't wait until the announcement on Monday. I pray that it will be to bring charges against him. I don't understand why KK doesn't just step down and let the healing of the city begin.

chewing my nails and waiting ! ! ! !

You and I both!

I'm crossing my fingers he's outta here....but city council stated something about continuing their investigation regardless of the outcome which makes me wonder if they don't already know the outcome and it's that the PA has decided not to pursue charges.

a newspaper has revealed new text messages from Beatty's pager about the 2003 firing of Deputy Police Chief Gary Brown.

Days before Beatty recommended that Kilpatrick get rid of Brown, Beatty received a text message from Fleming-Freeman: "It is obvious that he needs to be gone; he just needs to be gone."

I'm worried that the contempt hearing this morning is providing Kym Worthy an excuse to delay again, by indicating her investigation isn't "complete".

In this article: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080324/NEWS01/80324023

The deputy mayor is voicing his opinion that that if Worthy does press charges, that they'll be strictly political. As far as the perjury, to me it looks pretty cut and dried. As to the mansion party and murder, who knows . . . Even if it's shown that there was a cover up for the party, that's a long way from murder. Proving it will be a hellofa problem.

Worthy's investigation isn't the only probe of City Hall under way.

The FBI's public corruption squad and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit have been conducting a wide-ranging probe into allegations of corruption in the city of Detroit for more than three years.

That probe -- led by assistant U.S. attorneys R. Michael Bullotta and Mark Chutkow -- has led to the indictment of two City Council members, Everett and Alonzo Bates. The probe's activities have intensified in recent months, defense lawyers say, but it isn't clear if the FBI and federal prosecutors have taken an interest in the mayor's office or the text messages.

Arrghhh, ABC's website is down and NBC wouldn't load the live feed. And Fox ran for a quick minute then went blank.

I haven't seen a public dressing down like this in a long time. Crossing fingers here too.

Wow, perjury charges were the least of Kwame and Beatty's worries.

How funny that Kilpatrick wouldn't return her calls! You would think if you were waiting on the prosecutor's office to announce whether you'd be charged with felony charges, you'd return the calls.

Snip -

The Wayne County prosecutor says she plans to bring perjury and other charges against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former top aide.

Kym Worthy said Monday Kilpatrick and one-time Chief of Staff Christine Beatty lied under oath during a whistle-blowers' trial last summer when they denied having a romantic relationship.

A perjury conviction could bring up to 15 years' imprisonment and force Kilpatrick to relinquish his hold on the mayor's office.

End Of Snip

He's being charged w/ 8 felony counts, she has 7!! YES YES YES YES YES!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!
