Missing cell phones

I hope this isn't a 'dumb' question.

Everyone is looking for these cells phones, thinking there is valuable evidence on them. Why did Deborah and/or Jeremy even tell the police the cell phones were missing? If they had something to hide on those phones, just get rid of the phones and never mention them to the police in the first place.

This is puzzling me. LE would never have known they had 3 cell phones on the counter that disappeared if they had not been told about them.

It makes me wonder if it is really true that an intruder took the phones. Otherwise Deb and JI are dumber than I thought, but yet smart enough to possibly hide an infant from LE.:twocents:

Perhaps to explain why they had no phones? or perhaps JI had called one of the phones earlier in the evening, and that number was showing up on his work phone (which they did have)

Not a dumb question at all. In fact, if you evaluate all the statements, timeline, and videos carefully, you will find there is absolutely no evidence that the phones were reported missing at the time of the 911 call and initial response by LE. The likely time they were reported missing is when Debbie was brought in for further questioning that morning. At that time, they asked for her phone, and she gave them JI's work cell phone. This is per DB's dad who talked about it on FB (interestingly, he has deleted that comment, but it is preserved on other sites.)

MOO.

I believe it was part of the grand scheme of cover-up to report the phones missing as LE would invariably find out they existed. It also confuses the crime scene, making it appear there is a burglar who is also a kidnapper, or a kidnapper who, even though he/she would be trying to get out of the house undetected with a 10 month old baby, stops to pick up the cell phones.

I also believe there is some truth to the report (namely by Judge Jeanine Pirro on FNC) that a call/text was made at approximately 2:38am and therefore would lend credence to my belief that, in hindsight, DB reports the phone missing (likely when questioned by LE) to make it appear the kidnapper used the phone.

as a red herring? I guess these days LE would ask about cell phones (was it not mentioned 911 call was slightly delayed due to the phones being taken?) because most people have them - if they say they did not, and there were bills showing otherwise, that's even worse.

I've just read http://www.thehinkymeter.com/2011/1...rsion-4-0-1-a-lawyer-still-no-baby/#more-8215 re: the story changes here and I am thoroughly disheartened. I was trying to stay out of the threads and give DB the benefit of the doubt but as of today I am hanging on the fence with my fingernails.

To my knowledge, Ipads or ITouch & Tablets can not make phone calls. Possibly text if person is using AIM / Yahoo messenger.

Yes, ITouch can make calls. My stepdaughter has one and through an internet program could make phone calls as long as she had internet access.

I thought it was pretty cool because she'd been hounding us about getting a cell phone until she actually got an Itouch and found out how to make these calls.

In that case too, I would think an Ipad could do the same.

HLN had a snippet. Talking about the three missing cell phones. Not much there but does beg the question. If one of those phones was given to them by a family member on Sunday, that phone was working. So the excuse that they couldn't call the phone because of restricted use goes bye bye/

Unless her phone literally didn't work, and once they paid the bill she was planning to switch SIM cards.

Your explanation is more logical- but there have been times when I've given hand-me-down phones away to a friend when I upgraded.

I thought it was given to them, not loaned, but I could be wrong.
Do we know how long DB and JI had it in their possession?
Do we know it was still on a contract at the time it was given to them?

But LE would have surely noticed that they had no landline, and inquired about cell phones. What would the parents have said...we lost them?

Or even me, though it took me forever to put two and two together on this...

It was given to them on Sunday, either because because their phones were "broken" or hers was acting up. She put it on her contract is one story. So, the phone would have been a working phone, IMO. They already had an old non serviced phone in the desk drawer.
Unless DB is a dead cell phone collector...

I think and this is my opinion only, but I feel that they brought up the cell phones which was a day or two later right, because it was an easy way to make it look like a possible robbery/kidnapping. It was also the reason for a delay in calling the police when JI came home as well.

On your other comment there, I too dont believe an intruder took the phones because I dont believe there was an intruder.

Not all phones work with all carriers plus newer features are added all the time. Could be the phone DB was given was nicer than the old phone LE found in the desk drawer.

BTW...I have a box of old cell boxes that I keep saving and have actually sold a few at a yard cells. Why people want them I don't know, one of the phones I sold was one of those gigantic Motorola's that was one of the first cell phones out there.

I have a friend that buys a new cell everytime they come out with a new model, and he just tosses his old one in the drawer. Maybe her father had a collection of old out of date, so to speak, phones.

Like in Reservoir Dogs? Cool Beans!!!
As far as the cell phone, I read it was a plain jane phone, so probably a Track or Boost (MOO)

Have the descriptions of the three missing cell phones even been released? If they are associated with Baby Lisa being missing, then why not ask the public for help in finding these phones as well?

Not sure but here is a pic of it. This is it's smaller version, I also had the larger battery that made it even a couple of inches thicker...LOL!

I'm not sure why someone would borrow a phone that had no service. Or restricted service. Wouldn't that be...well, pointless?

The phone story is collateral damage imo; someone used the phone and had to cover it up. Wouldn't you just switch sim cards and not have to reprogram the phones? But the real issue is, why would a kidnapper take all the phones? How did they know they din't have a land line? How long would it delay a 911 call if they had to run next door to use a phone? I agree they had to make up a reason the phones were't there to cover their own butt.
