Does anyone think he staged this?
All these calls to me seem he is doing this on purpose.

Just a thought!

That occurred to me, as well. It wouldn't surprise me.

I don't know what to think, but it is interesting that LE is calling this a disappearance and also that phone and financial records have been requested. I hope H was above this.

KM contacts MCPS and files a missing person report with MoundsView PD

Tuesday Sept 15, 2015

The MCPS conduct a search of the SA and surrounding area.

First media reports:

http://www.kare11.com/story/news/2015/09/14/police-seek-missing-man--mounds-view/72249370/

Includes video interview with KM.
"He was spending time with some friends that he hadn’t seen in a long time, and when I spoke with him they were getting ready to leave," McCabe's wife, Kareen McCabe, told KARE.
Kareen McCabe said she received a call from Henry's phone at 2:23 a.m. that Monday, but it seemed that he had accidentally dialed her number...Attempts to call him back went straight to Henry's voice mail. And then he that stopped working.

http://kstp.com/article/stories/s3905379.shtml

The last time Kareen talked to her husband was at 2:20 a.m. on Labor Day.She said the middle-of-the-night phone call was unusual and alarming.
"I think he was hurt because he made a sound, almost like a cry.
"Another reason to believe it's suspicious circumstances is because there are conflicting stories on where he was dropped off," David Singleton, with Minnesota Community Policing Services, said.

http://www.startribune.com/police-s...o-why-mounds-view-man-went-missing/327762561/
McCabe’s wife, Kareen, was in California preparing for the family’s move there when she received a call from his cell phone early Sept. 7, said family spokesman David Singleton.

Police review video footage and request phone records

September 19, 2015
Second search around Super America lead by MCPS. Teams traveled the roughly 35-minute long walk between the gas station where he was last seen and his home, combing the area along County Rd. H2. LE was present.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage from that morning to see if they can learn anything. On Saturday, McCabe's wife told KARE 11 there was no sign of her husband on the video.

"That is the mystery in the whole story because the person (that he left with) said that he offered to take (McCabe) home and he said he wanted to be dropped off at this filling station," (CJ) said. "I don't know if he was meeting somewhere here or what. I last saw him around 1:40 a.m."

http://kstp.com/article/stories/s3911249.shtml
"I know that he was walking, from the (phone) call; I could hear him walking," Kareen said. "The last call I had with him it sounded like he cried out like he was hurt and then the phone hung up."

"Items of interest" found during search (not confirmed to be relevant)

“Henry said ‘Don't worry just drop me to the gas station’,” Calvin Johnson, McCabe’s friend, said. “[The acquaintance] said, ‘Why would I do that?’ And Henry said ‘Brother just drop me to the gas station I'm going to be fine, this whole area is my area’.”
(KM) called McCabe around 2:23 a.m. on Sept. 7 to check in, well after he had left the nightclub, according to McCabe’s friends.

“He was like ‘let me call you back’,” then a few minutes later his phone pocket dialed me and I could hear him speaking, it sounded as though he was speaking to someone but they weren't responding,” McCabe’s wife said.

Kareen said she received several more pocket dials from McCabe.

“A few pocket dials later the last call I had with him he cried out as though he were hurt and then the phone hung up,” Kareen said.

Mounds View police, who are investigating, say they haven’t found any significant new leads. Chief Tom Kinney said Friday that he understands people are frustrated, but he said his department is actively investigating with assistance from the FBI.

LE recover a male body in the Mississippi river near the Camden Bridge, which is at 45th Street North and Lyndale Avenue North. No further info released. http://kstp.com/article/stories/s3917129.shtml

September 26th, 2015

Third search lead by MCPS focuses on CreekView Park in New Brighton where police say the last call made from Henry's cell phone pinged off a tower near Silver Lake Road and Mississippi street in New Brighton. The pings show that McCabe was not dropped off at a Super America on 73rd Avenue Northeast and Minnesota Highway 65 in Fridley, as was originally thought.

Mounds View police say they have requested financial and other documents link to McCabe...Investigators with Mounds View Police say they are "actively" pursuing the case. Police say this is not a criminal case and they don't have any suspects.

William Papus Kennedy Speaks Out
Kennedy says people have been attacking him on social media. He reached out to KARE 11 to share his story.

Kennedy alleges prior to September 6, he and McCabe never hung out. Kennedy alleges McCabe knew about him "from back home" in Liberia. Prior to moving to Minnesota, Kennedy said he was a well-known basketball player in Liberia. Kennedy may have been the last person to see McCabe.

"I wish I had never given him a ride with all that is going on. I wish I never did," Kennedy said. "We were not friends, more like acquaintances."

Deputies and Ramsey County Water Patrol search Rice Creek but find nothing. Investigators are waiting to get more information from the cell phones of more than one person.

Voice mail released to media.

There are two minutes of bizarre noises, including growls and moans. There's very little actual talking.
Authorities confirm the middle-of-the-night call came from McCabe's cell phone.

Kinney added that the police department recently sent the audio recording to a local FBI office for "further analysis and cleaning up."

Fox9 Interviews a friend who mentions that he asked Henry's brother if he thought "the voice mail" was Henry, and the brother said yes. Fox9 then goes on to report that the voicemail was left on the brother's phone. It also contains this interesting quote:

KARE 11 asked Chief Kinney if the surveillance video from the gas station showed the alleged drop off. His response: "We have not been able to locate or verify that yet."

After making calls to Kareen and his brother, where McCabe went or why remains a mystery.

New search for Rice Creek area planned Saturday Oct 3, 2015

Thank you! That time line is very very helpful!

Great timeline above! Raises so many questions.

1st - Did WK really drop him off at the SA on the corner of Silver Lake Rd and Rice Creek Rd? If the phone didn't really ping over by 73rd and 65, but WK dropped him at an SA, maybe he got the location wrong being newer to the area. This is literally one block away from where the phone pinged at Mississippi. That would make a lot more sense if he got dropped off there instead.

2nd - If he told his wife, during the first call, that he would call her back, it makes sense that she would pick up again - not knowing it would be a pocket dial. Then she answered a couple more pocket dials, one that cuts off with his scream. How did she get the voice mail from him? Why, after all that, would you let another call from him go to voice mail? I would be freaking out, screaming, and asking for more information.

Just a couple things that jumped out at me after reading that great timeline!

Snipped by me. . .

Maybe she was trying to call him when he called her, and his call went to voicemail? That has happened to me many times when I've missed a call and tried to call the person back right away.

If he hasn't been identified, how do they know he's 32?

Maybe it should be identity hasn't been confirmed?

You are absolutely correct! I edited my post so it actually made sense (just spent the day with my daughter who gave birth to her first child this evening - brain almost functioning).

But I thought it read that way (not identified ) in the article?

Congratulations!

They say the suspect was known to the victim, a 32-year-old male who has not yet been identified, and police are not seeking additional suspects - from above linked Kare11 article

I honestly thought I misinterpreted what it said! Very confusing wording IMO

According to the white pages, Henry lives somewhere along 69th Ave N, my guess is probably East of Silver Lk Rd. It would make sense here if WK took 10 to Silver Lake Rd to drive him home, missed the turn or Henry otherwise asked to be dropped at the SA, and WK is being truthful. The walk home in this case is only a few blocks, corresponds with the ping and the initial LE searches in "wooded areas around his home"and would put Henry walking right through CreekView Park and across the trail and potentially right up into other wooded areas and parks between there and 69th.

Regarding the calls, I think pomegranate has it right. I think he pocket dialed her, she called him back, he said he would call her back, but pocket dialed her a couple more times. I believe this was going on during an altercation that happened very shortly after he was dropped off and that another person besides WK could be involved.

Here is a thought - in an alternate scenario where Henry did not meet with a horrible demise, what if the sounds on the phone are not Henry, but someone else, and Henry is either perpetrating harm or is witnessing something horrible and he is missing voluntarily as a result?

The thought that the "growling" is actually crying out while being drowned, after listening a few more times I agree! But this doesn't mean it is Henry or that the phone is under water if the person's head is the only thing being submerged.

On a side note, a public post by CJ on Facebook about WK's KARE11 report has some interesting comments and mentions "the camera image at Super America" which was never confirmed to exist. It can be found directly or by looking at posts Joseph Fayiah Borbor Mccabe (Henry's FB page) was tagged in.

And I must add the obligatory outrage, why did it take 2 weeks for this to hit the media initially, why are searches only on weekends, and why is LE pretending like it takes more than a month to get surveillance video? Why is the Liberian community the only organization helping? Where are the neighborhood volunteers, MN SAR Dogs, public pleas? I appreciate all MCPS is doing but they need to break this out of their bubble and try to cooperate with LE in every way they can rather than become mired in infighting and the misinformation born of trying to cowboy the investigation.

I'm still mystified. If someone attacked H as he walked - perhaps robbery - IMO the robber would not bother to conceal a body. A robber would just run. If someone (gang related) attacked just for fun, it would also seem attackers would leave a body. People who conceal a body tend to have a relationship to the person and don't want to be implicated.

I agree, it is very unlikely this is a random attack. This area is generally very safe as far as being able to walk at night esp as a man, and the gangs zones are much further south. That doesn't mean there couldn't be a crazed transient in the park area or a meth head hanging around the Taco Bell, weirder things have happened!

Let's hope they find something of value in today's search. I really really wish they had a cadaver dog or two along.

Very true, I hadn't thought of that. Calling someone back shortly after they've called can definitely send directly to voice mail!

It just doesn't seem likely to voluntarily disappear at 2:30am with no prior evidence of planning.

Here is one scenario where that could happen - Henry ends up in an altercation with someone, or witness to an altercation between others, where someone is murdered or dies. Rather than go to the police, he hides.
