U.S. Attorney Todd Graves announces resignation

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Saying "the best chapter of my life is closed," U.S. Attorney Todd P. Graves said Friday that he is resigning after nearly five years of prosecuting federal cases in western Missouri.

Graves, 40, the former Platte County prosecutor, said his resignation would take effect March 24.

During a news conference, Graves said he planned to return to private practice and become more involved in politics, although he said he hadn't decided whether he would run for office in the near future.

"I have the greatest job a practicing lawyer anywhere could have," he said, surrounded by his top assistant U.S. attorneys and staff. "But I'm also someone who thinks the next thing is going to be the best thing, the greatest thing."

Darn, I was looking forward to this man having a hand in putting Lisa away...he was the one in charge when this heinous murder happened in December 2004.

It is not going to be a difficult case to prove no matter who tries it, so I wouldn't worry.

There is a new book out called Murder in the Heartland by M. William Phelps.
The book covers the crime to this point and will be in paperback with the trial added to it sometime in 2007.

The book is at K-Mart for $12.00 and at other book stores in hard-bound for $23.00. Catherine Crier had the author on today. I already read the book, I think I was the first kid on my block to have it and I couldn't put it down!

There is another book on this case due out on 8/29/06. It's by Dianne Fanning and it's called "Baby Be Mine".
 
Has anyone heard when this cow Lisa Montgomery is going to trial NOW? The last I heard it was October of this year....they keep putting it off.

Yes, but mostly for themselves, not necessarily for others. Some of the most insensitive people I have known were overly sensitive about their own feelings and easily wounded, which often caused them to lash out at others. I don't think they even knew how hurtful they were to others because they could only feel their own pain.

The last I saw on the district website was the schedule for October as well. I am waiting impatiently for this one to proceed. I was on a jaunt the other day and drove past Leavenworth - reminded me that the crazy one remains incarcerated there. I am most curious about the kind of case the defense will present for this monster. Personally I wished that they would have kept her in the Skidmore jail, but then we would never see her tried for her most heinous crime.
 
It appears the defense will definitely present some kind of insanity case for Ms. Montgomery. Note the US Attorney's office has apparently retained the famous (infamous?) Dr. Park Dietz in opposition.

Lets hope he (Dietz) hasn't consulted on another imaginary episode for Law and Order prior to his testimony.

IMO he is a shamus of the highest order - I'm also surprised he is being consulted with - but then again he will say whatever you pay him to say at any time. He has no compass IMO - his testimony and allegations in the Andrea Yates trial were nothing short of sheer imagination on his part, from my perspective anyway.

This will be a death penalty case - I find it absolutely disgusting that this man has any involvement, no matter what side he takes period. Trials are supposed to be a search for the truth - IMO this man wouldn't know the truth if it slapped him squarely in the face and knocked him off that pedestal he has placed himself upon. JMO of course.
 
I hope CTV keep us up to date with this trial, due to it being in Federal court it won't be televised
 
This case has taken forever to come to trial. Let us hope that there is justice for poor Bobbie Jo and her husband. What was done to her was undescribable.
 
Agreed. There better be some justice here. I don't know why this has taken so long. The last two Christmases I have thought about Bobbie Jo...it's been over 2 years now. I wonder what Tory looks like now? I'd love to see a photo of her.

I followed this case when it all took place and assumed it was all done and dusted.I was surprised when I read the thread that the trial was still coming up.I feel for Bobbies family , no case needs to be so slow. Do you know why it is? Yes, I would like to know how her dear little daughter is also. Such a miracle that she survived. A blessing.
