You know what bothers me the most?? People really are sick and begging doctors to find the problem so they can get treatment... and yet aren't getting help!!!! Yet someone can claim a disease and don't even have it!!! All the resources wasted on Gypsy... Yet my Dad is dying and he doesn't even have a diagnosis for why!!!!!! Frustrating....

I am sorry about your father 2Hope4! I pray the doctors will come up with something very soon. :grouphug:

Gypsy was in wheelchair. How would mother explain why Gypsy was in wheelchair if not for muscular dystrophy? And why did Gypsy need medical flights to go on these tests? That has to be highly unusual.

Some mysterious unknown disease.

The flights-- who knows

Any doctor that wrote a script for tube feeding, wheelchair, meds, flights, etc. for anything there's no legitimate diagnosis for should be in boiling water and license revolked. Each should be fined by Medicaid or Medicaid for fraud. Money in that safe and what was stolen should go back to EBT for the fraud committed. Dee Dee actually got a better ending than she would have if this fraud had been determined while she was alive.

With some seizure disorders, patients may feel more comfortable in wheelchairs due to falls etc. I'm in agreement with the poster who suggested what DD told Doctors was not necessarily what she told others. We 'know' that Gypsy was taking anti-seizure meds that when used incorrectly can cause seizures. This would not be so hard to fake or even to fool Gypsy into believing. Gypsy might have been taking them at the direction of her Mom. (speculation)

These meds can be (and are) prescribed for many different conditions, so she could have obtained them for any number of maladies. (Such as depression, epilepsy, etc).

"Loss of muscle tone" assumes that the doctors believed she was completely dependent on her chair for mobility. Clearly friends and family believed this, but we can't be sure that the doctors did. . . can we? It seems too obvious a thing to miss otherwise. If they knew she had "some" mobility (as described by Mom) then no need to suspect anything. I don't believe Gypsy was ever treated for these many conditions that DD said she had.

Whether Gypsy knew all along or later discovered the deception is the main question for me. I'm putting my "money" on the latter and learning that she had been gaslighted, manipulated and used caused her such rage that she plotted to kill her own Mother.

BBM.

Dee Dee Blancharde was stabbed to death in bed.

I think it's obvious that Gypsy knew she wasn't actually sick. If she could walk, but had to be in wheelchair, obviously she knew. If she wasn't retarded, but had to pretend, then obviously she knew.
If she didn't need the huge glasses, but had to wear them, then obviously she knew.
If her hear wasn't falling out, but was shaved to fool people into thinking Gypsy had leukemia, then obviously Gypsy knew.
But this kind of deception was going on for years. Clearly it wasn't Gypsy's idea to pretend to be all these things. Based on what I know, I don't doubt Gypsy hated her mother and wanted to get away from her.
When she previously run away, mother found her and brought her back. When police previously came to check on Gypsy, nothing was done.
So, Gypsy could have thought that the only way to get away was to get rid of her mother.

Yes, but at what point did she discover that she wasn't as sick as portrayed? That's my main question.

Now how does Barney play into this?

I wonder if she was hugging the Barney doll when she hide in the bathroom while NG was stabbing DD.

Gypsy is not necessarily complicit to deception. It is possible she was gaslighted (at least in part) to comply with the wishes of her Mother. She may have been led to believe that no one would want her, love her, care for her - except her Mom. She may have been deceived on a great many things.

psyquestor, I agree with you.

Do we know the age of Gypsy when she had tried to run away? If she was a minor mom was within her rights to bring her back. Also there were stories floating around that Gypsy had tried to hook up with a male that was several yrs older than her,so that could be why Dee Dee collected her and brought her back home. IMO

We do not know what doctors prescribed. She had four wheelchairs in the house. Who needs four? Fundraising or donations is my guess.

Feeding tube- we saw a fundraiser for that.

And any caring doctor would see the pathetic horror of a cheerful child like Gypsy and would try to help her. Doctors do not know everything. And different medical facilities have different treatment ideas.

The medical flights are a mystery. Maybe commercial flights in economy would be too difficult and maybe too many connections to get where she was going? And First Class would be far more expensive and the connections still an issue?

How did Kate Parker dupe so many? Hopefully doctors will start getting classes in malingering or MBP.

Gypsy sure is a new twist on scams.

BTW, the latest scam that people where I live are getting is having their child labelled autistic, I was flabbergasted to find out a pair of twins I had has been labelled autistic. I asked the teacher who had the kids after me if I missed the indicators. They were as shocked as I. Good deal. The parent even gets free respite care for the kids and a PCA.

I don't know how these parents manage it. I had a darling girl that the mother had labelled as A DHD and put her on meds. No way. A psychologist said that it was a parenting issue and denied she was ADHD. So even with me , the teacher, and the psychologist saying it was not possible, mother got a psychiatrist to agree with her.

It is all a mystery to me

Mother was not within her rights to parade Gypsy around in a wheelchair, when Gypsy didn't need a wheelchair, or shave Gypsy's head to pretend Gypsy had leukemia, or to collect money for various diseases Gypsy didn't have.
As for how old Gypsy was, who the **** knows, considering all the various birth dates Dee Dee used for Gypsy. If Gypsy was born in July of 1991, she is nearly 24 years old.

"Investigators list five potential birth dates for Gypsy, ranging from July of 1991 to July of 2000."

When did this happen ? According to casenet Gypsy was born in 1991

Yes, but at what point did she discover that she wasn't as sick as portrayed? That's my main question.

I would guess very early on, considering relative describes how Gypsy was playing and walking when Dee Dee was not around, but when Dee Dee showed up, Gypsy collapsed as if Gypsy was paralyzed.
From what relative says, Gypsy was very young when mother started putting her in wheelchair.

"Pitre said there were instances when Gypsy would get out of her wheelchair and push other children around. He said Gypsy once got up and started jumping on a trampoline only to "collapse" when Dee Dee came outside and saw her."

My question right now is was Gypsy even Dee Dee's biological daughter? With 5 different birth dates it kind of makes me question everything!

Gypsy looks just like her mother when mother was younger. She could be a carbon copy.

No but if Gypsy was a minor and ran away she was within her right to fetch her as most any parent would do. I didn't have anything in my post that you quoted that would indicate she had a right to do any of the things you listed.

Gypsy should have been removed from that woman a long time ago.
At least from what I gather, Gypsy was actually born in 1991, so she wasn't a minor.
But Dee Dee claimed she was, because Dee Dee had multiple birthdays for her.
