A bit OT, but possibly relevant in some ways:
KANSAS CITY MAFIA FAMILY
Boss: John “Johnny Joe” Sciortino
UnderBoss: Peter “Las Vegas Pete” Simone
Consigliere: Vacant
Organized crime in KCMO had it's beginnings around 1912, and soon: a lot of money and opportunities attracted an even larger syndicate because of Prohibition. I lived in NKC when the Civella family was active and they owned a lot of nightclubs--not just limited to "adult entertainment." During my college years in NKC: I loved to dance and go out with friends to hear DJ's and do the nightlife scene a bit. The Civella family members often dropped-in to their clubs to "check on the ambience."
I myself was scared of the very word "mafia," but it was quite apparent that the family wasn't shy about approaching some of their customers to make *ahem* future coffee dates. I had one female friend who began to date one in particular, beginning in 1982, and she became very different after she began dating him--very quiet and not out-going and talkative as she used to be.
We were in a small NKC "disco" when he approached our table and began chatting with her. I tried my absolute best to talk her out of getting involved, but there were a LOT of younger females who thought it was exciting and were attracted to that sort of crowd--(not saying by any means that TA was, though.)
I eventually stopped going to clubs with that particular friend. Her personality and behavior were changing--a lot--and frankly: the whole scene scared me. I was not able to get her to stop seeing this man, and I now often wonder if there came a time when she had no choice in the matter. And yes: he was married and had children as were many of these guys who chatted-up the clientele.
"According to Scott Burnstein's Gangster Report website (see State of the Syndicate: the Kansas City Mafia Today), the Kansas City mob is on its last legs with 12 made men or less. The family still has some gambling and loansharking with some extortion involving drugs and the strip club industry."

I lived in a modest house on Poplar Drive in NKC (Gladstone) for 10 years, and it was long-rumored that the large homes on acreage east of me had networks of underground tunnels beneath them--like a series of "escape routes" which supposedly were connected to their families homes in the same neighborhoods.
Sorry to veer OT into my past a bit here, but it might be of interest to someone here. It was sure odd/interesting at the time...in my youth.
