Yeah,on this thread we had a l-o-n-g discussion on slang (4:20,chicken,Ray Charles,auntie...on & on)from the urban dictionary! WOW,it is eye popping.:shocked2:
But,the definition in the 'Urban Dictionary' for Ray Charles' is:
The Ray Charles
The Ray Charles is an action that occurs when someone gets so high that all they can do is grab their arms and tilt their head back and sit there for an hour... Resulting in someone who looks just like the famous photo of Ray Charles at the Apollo theater in 1990
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=the+ray+charles

Do not look at the first entry! It is naughty, I blushed.

:moo:

Good grief! I looked ... and I think I somehow liked it by accident or enrolled in online p**n or something. LOL

Having lived in small towns of 300 to 500 people most of my life...When we here sirens or copters we are on the phone or out the door or both...

Exactly my thoughts as well. When a town is that small and most everyone knows one another - you assume you know the person who might be hurt or at least know who they are.

LOL @ Han's remark!

Masters of Science in Criminal Justice Administration, is the 'MSCJ', the 'grad' tag at the end, is an acronym as well. I got my Bachelors degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice, my Masters degree in CJA, and have worked in the field for some time now. I was unfamiliar with WS, to an extent, when I joined, and when asked to create a user name, I was stumped, and did not put enough thought into it as I should have. I wish I would have chosen 'naturelover' or 'stopcrimesagainstkids' or something less uppidy. I was in my office, and looked at my wall, and went with my degree acronym. I was quite anxious to chime in after reading the well thought out and researched posts that were before me regarding this case. You guys have a respectful, informed forum going on here, and I was just ready to jump in. I even considered changing the name to something different as it almost immediately appeared facetious to me, but it seemed shady to do so after I had already posted a dozen or so times. Impulse control is not a trait that I hold.

OT but...

Keep the name, it's appropriate, you earned it, and it shows. :)

I just had a thought... Maybe we're looking for the perp in the wrong place.

Does anyone know where this domestic violence shelter she stayed at was located? Was it near where she lived, or several towns away? What if her killer is connected to her through the shelter? Presumably there would have been other women staying there. Maybe one of them had a very violent husband/boyfriend. If this guy found out Jessica was in the same shelter, he might have gone to Jessica to find out where the girlfriend was, and if she didn't know or wouldn't tell him... If she did say a name, and everyone in town with a similar name has checked out, that could explain it - this guy could be from elsewhere. He could have lured her into meeting him by pretending to be someone else, especially since she would most likely not know him by voice or appearance, but only from what the other girl might have told her about him.

Leah's House in Oakland, MS, just 18 minutes to the South. If she went there for any reason...and was headed back to Courtland that would explain her pulling over on that side of the road where she was found as opposed to the other side of the road headed out of Courtland.

I was thinking the same thing about the Med-Evac helicopter and the ambulance to it. Ambulances may be quiet with no sirens, but no helicopter I've ever heard is quiet. I do believe the ambulance transporting Jessica to the Med-Evac would be using sirens, btw. Quiet, country area, but lots of houses and trailers around. Who wouldn't be curious at that activity?

BBM and just stating the painfully obvious. People that already knew about it.

Having lived in similar sized towns for more than half my life, I can second that. Further, when I stay in a not so close by military town with a population of 15k, I can tell you whenever medivac flies anywhere nearby, people are out on their porches.

A couple of things:

(1) I've always believed the early FBI involvement came from the perspective of a possible Hate Crime or Civil Rights violation. The heinous nature of the crime and the public outcry virtually made it impossible to treat this as just another murder. The fact that Jessica's ex-boyfriend was black and she was white certainly raised the fear of a racially motivated crime in some minds. Coming at the end of an eventful year that included the violent deaths of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and the white man in St. Louis bludgeoned to death with hammers by black teenagers probably heightened the Justice Department's sensitivity to such racial tensions. And this happened in Mississippi no less. No one would want to see a repeat of the racial violence of the 60's.

(2) Someone mentioned recently that toxicology reports had shown the presence of narcotics in the body. Please provide a link to this information. To my knowledge the only information released by the Panola County Coroner's office has been a preliminary finding as to cause of death, which was "thermal injury", nothing more. Gracie Gulledge has been completely tight lipped about autopsy results, as have both LE and the DA's office.

I am glad I was checking in and read the last few posts. It is important not to muddy the water. So it is critical that I titled it:
My Speculation~No toxicology or autopsy have been released

My post #136 post is speculation only.
:thinking:Many threads ago we spent a while discussing slang;
<snipped>

I will just repeat that there have been no autopsy or toxicology reports released. My post #136 was speculation only. I try to include links when I am referring to mainstream media.

i am sorry for any confusion my post caused.

Addendum,
PS To :websleuther: rbarber,
I just read your follow up post. No apology :blushing: needed. I learned a long time ago the importance of humility. :therethere: And the 'Good Lord' knows: I have a lot to be humble about.

IMO that's stating the obvious. She would have been thoroughly medicated by Emergency Response burned that bad. I am not sure a tox screen will prove much as far as narcotics go? Anything! That isn't stocked in the hospital pharmacy, then we may learn something.
I don't think anything has been released or will be anytime soon. = (

Sorry, was reading to catch up and missed some very important warnings, my bad.:chillout:

Interesting. My town is probably halfway between (maybe 8000), and Lifestar going over doesn't merit much attention. Maybe because the highway is nearby (and the usual source of accidents) or maybe it's regional? (Us New Englanders aren't known as warm and cuddly....)

But to raise a related point - how many people in town have police/fire scanners, and how much information went out over the scanner that night?

Possible, although I was thinking more in terms of this involving someone that she met there, rather than her visiting there. I hope the police have checked for any connection between this name she supposedly said and the boyfriends or other abusers of anyone who was in the shelter with her.

While I have not ruled out anything, and you could very well be onto something regarding someone she met while at LH, I feel the need to point out again that LH is not a domestic violence shelter. "Our ministry helps women ages 18 and over who have been incarcerated, deal with addictions, behavioral problems, self-harm, depression, and others (http://www.rachelssister.com/leahs-house/)". JC's mother explained that JC went to LH after they had an altercation, and to avoid charges or prosecution for that altercation. That being said, it is still possible that many of the women at LH were at some point victims of DV, including JC herself, but it is not the purpose of the facility, and that is not the reason why JC went to LH (according to JC's mother).

Not to derail the thread, but the reason I hear them is because they fly LOW. I can read the letters on the side from my bedroom. I imagine in other locations they may fly higher. I'm right next to a lake as well.
Someone mentioned a scanner. My County has a scanner Facebook page. I'd there is cell camera and wreck it's uploaded before 911 gets there. The site has an online link to scanner and the page updates until scene cleared and advises which roads to avoid. I [emoji173] it!

It's actually sort of curious in the town with the military base. They have Chinook, a few Hueys and the rare Apache flying over fairly regularly. However medivac has this enclosed french tail rotor design which gives it a very distinctive sound. No one bats an eye when a military chopper flies over, but the moment that medivac is anywhere nearby people come out like it's the fourth of July.

Now in my current home town, it's almost unbelievable. By the time the second fire truck rolls past, half the town is either outside or tuning in their scanners. I came from a very private, conservative, northern, large city, family. We minded our own business, and our neighbors did the same. It took me quite a while to adjust to the behavior of rural life below the Mason Dixon line.

The scanner thing is questionable. Years ago everything went out over analog systems, and anyone could listen in. Most modern systems are trunked, and digitally encoded. Unless they're using old equipment there, that fact wouldn't surprise me, people would have trouble listening in. It doesn't look like an area where people have a lot of disposable income, the only people there with any real use for a scanner would be criminals themselves. It's not like a metropolitan area where you'd get a lot of activity, I'm guessing the vfc guys, local LE, and a select few criminals would have any use for it. Assuming they aren't using modern systems which really make most scanners useless.

I feel so out of the loop in this case. Anyone care to post a short summary of the latest? It's not that I'm lazy, I just lost a lot of patience in this case. I truly hope the perps slip and this case breaks. Otherwise, it'll feel like winter for a vary long time IMO.

Listening now - will happily post some choice quotes shortly....

News from the radio show:
  • Call with her mother was just brief and didn't indicate where Jess was
  • DA believes if they can find out where she was during the one hour window they will find her murderer
  • They have their eyes on some people but that's all they can say
  • From an evidentiary standpoint they do not believe at all this is an accident or suicide nor have they ever
  • All agencies are still on the case
  • New information very very very slow to come in
