burned so badly internally that it is obvious that an accelerant must have been used inside mouth and nose,
yet talking. i will have to leave that to the experts...

I hope one day he we will get to hear what really happened, liljim. I am not in the medical field, but I think either some of the info reported in MSM is not correct or that young girl was one determined bada**.

Police believe lighter fluid or another accelerant was poured down her throat and she was then set ablaze.

essica's sister, Amanda Prince, said it's the family's understanding from police that someone was inside Jessica's car before the attack. The assailant may have poured accelerant down her throat and nose and set her on fire. It's unclear if she was knocked out first or if she fought back, but there was a gash on her head, Ben Chambers and Prince said.

They squirted lighter fluid down her throat and in her nose, and apparently they knocked her out,” Ben Chambers told television station WDBD-TV. “She had a big gash on top of her head.
“When the fire department got there, she was walking down the road on fire ... only part of her body that wasn't burned was the bottom of her feet.”

Pardon my snips, but when I went to bed last night I thought the accelerant down throat and gash on forehead stuff was rumor and that mom disputed that. But now I see that this info actually comes from dad and is sourced several places.

I think as someone suggested, burns around and in the mouth (chemical burns, not from the blaze) would be recognizable to first responders. As to whether that would preclude her from speaking. Accounts I have read suggest she attempted to speak, whispered or attempted to whisper to someone on scene. That is not the same thing as speaking as in carrying on a conversation.

Family members say someone poured an accelerant down her throat and nose before setting her and her car on fire.

However, officials say those details are still unclear.

I can't put my hands on it right now, but there's another link where LE indicated early reports by the family were misleading. I'll look around a little more, but the point is that nothing is certain at this time.

As far as I know, mom never disputed the accelerant down the throat. She disputed the Unrecognizable part and the big gash. Of course, as a mother, I would like to think I would always recognize my child-despite the circumstances. Did Ben Chambers make it to the hospital before JC died? I know mom did, but did Ben get to see her?

Yes, LE /Champion were on rumor control. Info was getting out there before tests could confirm anything. I think that is why they haven't been updating the family--as per Ben. They want to make sure certain information doesn't hit public again.

Seems like a lot is not known at such a late date. :( What a horrific way to die.

Also I noted that most of the snips in mine above and elsewhere all seem to go back to a few very direct quotes made by BC. Possibly, immediately after Jessica died. So much of what he was expressing could have been "heat of the moment" type utterances from BC based on second and third hand information he was picking up from investigators and responders, dots he was himself connecting, wrongly or rightly, etc and then all the news orgs picked up on those quotes and ran with their stories.

Just feel awful for this family. I cannot imagine losing a child in this manner.

not sure ms pragmatic, the only quote i have seen regarding that said only that her mother and aunt saw her at the hospital.

Another thought provoking question - how well did JC's parents really know WHAT was going on in her life? ....
Teens are good at keeping secrets and telling only what they want. The style life poor Jessica was living was so gang influenced, IMO, she told her parents little. IMO....
sbm bbm

Exactly. What do parents think they know vs. what do parents actually know?
Could be a biiiiiig gap there, esp in light of her extended time living away from parents, w former BF and in 'shelter.'

Also do her parents' perspectives about 'learning her lessons' differ from Beaver Cleaver's mom & dad's ideas about lessons? Our ideas?
A little or a lot?

When we read about someone 'turning their life around' does that translate into action?
Or is it just talk, whether coming directly from horse's mouth, or repeated by friend, family member, or a social agency/faith based org. staff?

IDK about any of the above.

AFAIK, the only confirmed, objective action was her new-ish employment at the Batesville Goody's store. Part time, full time?
How long had she bn employed there, a month or so?
Maybe moving back in (w her Mother?) was a positive action away from bad relationships, her assault-arrests (drugs, gangs, whatever crimes).

I'd like to think that her life was on an upward trajectory but IDK.
RIP Jessica.

Is it confirmed that she lived with the ex for 2 years and stayed at a shelter for a year? I know she lived at both but am not clear if the length of stay is confirmed.

That is pretty unusual, especially if she really moved out at 16. It would make sense if her home environment was bad. Was she living with her mom at that point? We have heard bad stuff about her dad and brother but I don't recall reading about issues with her mom. Of course, she could have other issues there that led to her moving out.

I totally agree. I've read about so many murder cases whereby the young victim was turning his/her life around. It always seems to be a paradox.

In short, Sheriff Darby stated that most of what the family said about accelerants was untrue. That was on Dec 11 during the press conference.

Thanks, Bessie. I guess it's not clear if the family misunderstood what they were told or was misinformed. I'm a bit more inclined to think local LE jumped the gun in telling them this right when it happened since AA supposedly was told the same thing and he hasn't backed down. Perhaps they were told someone could have poured something down her throat rather than someone definitely did.

Darby clarified that they've been unable to confirm forensically if accelerant was actually poured on Jessica.

Um, this is confusing. I would think that an accelerant was indisputably poured on her or into the car as she was in it. That would seem to be very clear. Just based on the level and severity of her burns.

This not only addresses that LE are not confirming that any accelerant was poured down her throat, but seems to indicate that LE is unsure if accelerant was poured anywhere on her body.

okay . . . .

Yep and just when you finally figure out that Rachel and Denise are one and the same, we learn she goes by two different last names. Tudor and Mister. SMH

For some reason I like the Tutor/Mister name duo so they're the only ones I can truly remember and keep track of. They're a striking couple.

I'm trying to think of how an accelerant got on Jessica without it being poured on her. I'm coming up empty.

Thank you for the reminder, bessie.

O/T, from here. WSers, some of you may consider this sucking up to the mods, even though you can't see my expressions or body language, fine with me :). I hope the storm passed you by okay, bessie. I saw the news'n'all about the tornado. Never a good time to get hit like that, but just before Christmas is harsh. Bessie, you and the Mods do such an extra-ordinary job keeping it real here in about as good as way as anyone has figured out so far. I feel very fortunate to know about it and to keep learning. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
