"eis" the word Tellis without the ability to move the tongue for the T or the L. "E - is" with a hard breath at the end and no ability to pronounce the "s" either. "E-I" = Eh-short I sound.

No need to answer last name either cuz she already said it. Get that darn speech pathologist back on the stand and have her demonstrate it for gosh sakes!!!!

She was TELLING this guy they got it wrong; that she wasn't saying "Eric". That prosecutor has to do something with this and that speech pathologist.

I agree with you- she wasn't saying "Eric". I believe what the Dr said this afternoon- that she couldn't actually talk and could only make sounds- trying to say "Tellis" and her saying "No" to "Eric".

Dr. William Hickerson testified at length about her condition. At one point, as defense attorney Palmer pressed Hickerson on Chambers' ability to speak given her condition, the exchange became tense.

"She could have made sounds, but not sounds that we would be able to say is speech," Hickerson said.

*Trial continues (Day 5) – (@ 9am CT) - MS - Jessica Lane Chambers (19) (Dec. 8, 2014) - Quentin Verdell Tellis (27) - indicted on 1st degree capital murder & 3rd degree arson. Plead not guilty. Held without bond. DA will not seek DP.
Skipping day 1 thru 3.
9/27/18 Update Day 4: Morning: Defense objects to the site visit to the crime scene & a State's witness. The "mystery man" seen at the scene. Wille Taylor, his wife will be testifying as he is a long-haul trucker & not in town. State says visit to site is revelant & as to objection to the night recreation, Champion says it's relevant because the jury needs to be aware of the noises that were surrounding the responders that night. Will have fire engines brought to site. Judge overrules objection against showing jury where hitchhiker was picked up. Overrules motion against showing where he was dropped off. Overrules motion against showing homes of Hinson & Julia Chambers. Reserving judgment on recreation of scene until he can look into it. Taking under advisement allowing wife of mysterious stranger. Overruling the objection to site visit to where keys were found.
Morning Witness: Maj. Barry Thompson of Panola Co. Sheriff's Dept, lead investigator in case is describing the sites jurors will be visiting. Jurors visit sites: first stop was the site where Jessica was on fire/car. Next stop was where Jessica's keys were found on the side of the road. The 3rd stop was where Flowers said she picked up the unknown male. It was about 1/2 mile from where the keys were & 300 feet from the fire dept. Jurors saw the spot where Flowers said she dropped off the unknown male at his aunt's house that may have caught on fire. Tellis' sister's house is right in that area. Stopped at the M&M store where Jessica & Tellis on were seen on security footage several times that day. Across the street & a little to the south is Tellis' home. The jury moved to the driveway of Tellis' home. In the front was the shed where Tellis said he kept gas.
Afternoon Witnesses: FBI Special Agent Dustin Blunt, interview Tellis om 12/18/14. Angela Overton, trauma nurse on staff at Regional One Medical Center in Memphis. Burn specialist Dr. William Hickerson. Maj. Barry Thompson back on stand. The jury went back out to the crime scene at 8 p.m. They recreated how it looked that night with all of the fire trucks, equipment, etc. State will rest tomorrow & defense has 3 witnesses (Tellis' sister, mom and a firefighter). Back in court 9/28.

Possible attempt to intimidate Tellis witness leads to pursuit

I just read that this person who was removed from the gallery yesterday was making gestures to Ms. Flowers during her testimony. And that this person was riding a motorcycle. But they have not released this person's name and haven't released any information regarding if this person is connected to QT.

I had to do a follow up to my post from yesterday in regards to possible witness intimidation in this case. I feel like I have a sense of responsibility to make sure that I follow up on my posts. Especially, if new facts arise in regards to information I post that may later be deemed inaccurate. Early on, before more facts were revealed during the first trial, many of us were suspicious of the first fire on the evening of Dec. 6th, 2014.

One fire in such a small community would be unusual, but two on the same night? Some of us thought it might have been a diversion set to draw fire department resources away from the location of the burning vehicle set after the first fire. But after all the testimony in both this and the previous trial, it is obvious the first fire was a true "false" alarm, with the house involved filling with smoke but no fire present (based on checks with a thermal imaging device). The smoke was either due to dust burning in heating coils being cranked up for the first cool evening of the heating season, or due to something being overcooked in a microwave. The firefighters simply ventilated the house with a portable blower and that was that.

As it turned out, had a diversion actually been the purpose of that first "fire" it actually backfired, since it brought several first responders to the area, both from Courtland and Pope. And when the tone dropped for the second fire, three CVFD firemen were already at the station house and ready to go within seconds, not having to drive there from their homes to get the engine and brush truck (volunteer units do not have around-the-clock staffs).

I am cautiously optimistic this time. The prosecution seems to be doing a better job of plugging "holes" the defense will try to poke in their narrative during their summation, including the name "Eric" and the "Mystery Man" nobody seemed to follow-up on. Seems like a lot more objections by the defense this time, as if they are already anticipating a negative outcome, so planting some seeds for an appeal.

My heart just absolutely hurts for Jessica. I can't even begin to imagine the suffering that she went through. I just pray that if Quinton truly is the one who set her on fire, then he pays the price. Murder is murder, yes. But to just set her on fire, and leave her to die.. WHOEVER did it, needs to pay. Fire is my biggest fear. And drowning. And to the poster (forgive me, I'm on my phone at work LOL) who was talking about the sounds she could have been making that were mistaken as "Eric".. BRAVO. Now, I truly believe that she was trying to tell them it was "Tellis".

According to Cathy Russon @cathyrusson the defense plans to call three witnesses during the retrial: Tellis' mother, his sister, and a firefighter. The defense didn't call any witnesses during the first trial, apparently confident they could convince the jury the prosecution had no case against Tellis. Now that the "Eric" hole has been plugged by two expert witnesses, they must think more effort is needed.

The doctor who testified yesterday as an expert witness in burns stated he had once received third degree burns over 20% of his body. He described it as the most intense pain he had ever felt, including broken bones and a rupture colon. He could not begin to imagine the excruciating pain Jessica had endured with such extensive burns.

As with the first trial, DNA testing of Jessica's key chain by Scale Biological Lab was inconclusive. The first type of testing, autosomal, which examines 16 targeted areas of the 23 pairs of chromosomes contained in every human cell excluded Tellis from the mixture. However, secondary testing of just the "Y" chromosome, which only males have, identified a mixture of four males and could not exclude Tellis.

The expert witness explained a possible reason Tellis' DNA, if present, was not detected in the autosomal testing. The "XY" male chromosomes detected on that initiial testing were greatly overshadowed (masked) by the shear volume of "XX" female chromosomes in the mixture, making the sample a good candidate for the secondary testing.

She gave an example of an unrelated case where a female had been murdered with a knife which was coated with the female's blood. Because of the large amount of female DNA from the blood, no male DNA was detected in the autosomal testing. But by excluded the female DNA from the sample by concentrating specifically on male "XY" chromosome testing, a match with the male suspect was achieved in the secondary testing which excluded the "masking" female DNA present. So the seeming inconsistency of exclusion of Tellis by the autosomal testing, but inability to exclude him with the secondary testing is simply explained by the sheer volume of female DNA material in the mixture masking the male DNA present.

Given Jessica's speech impairments, "Tellis" and "Eric" would sound similar.
I posted upstream that I thought that "Eric" was the "Achilles' heel"
of the prosecution's case.
I no longer feel that way.

No, but I have read that there is an explosion that could make it seem that way. On my part it was just an observation, because I own a Kia and had my vehicle checked out.
