Flowers testifies a strange man came up to her and asked for a ride the night #JessicaChambers was murdered in Panola County, MS.

Cathy Russon‏ @cathyrusson 2m2 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers - We were told earlier that the jury would go on the View at 1:45. It's now almost 3. Not sure it will happen today.

Flowers testified the man she picked up was between 19 or 20 and African-American. #JessicaChambers

#JessicaChambers - Flowers didn't see any emergency lights that night.

Ron Maxey‏ @rmaxey1 1m1 minute ago
Flowers says Tyrone Smith with Panola Sheriff’s Dept. first contacted her about meeting with DA’s office. Met with them a couple of times. #JessicaChambers @memphisnews @clarionledger

Flowers, to back up, had been at a funeral that afternoon before all this happened with the passenger. #JessicaChambers @memphisnews @clarionledger

She says the man told her his aunt's name was Julia Chambers. She knew Julia because she'd done her hair in the past. Apparently, this Julia has no relation to #JessicaChambers.

Cathy Russon‏ @cathyrusson 2m2 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers - Flowers wasn't called in the 1st trial. She is a new witness prosecutors hoped to use to show Tellis got a ride that night. However, under direct she was not asked to identify the defendant as that man. She also described him as 19-20 yrs old. Tellis was 27

Ron Maxey‏ @rmaxey1 1m1 minute ago
There’s some question over how late it was when Flowers left home a second time — was it dark yet? But she definitely picked up someone. Was the timing right for it to have been Tellis after Chambers’ car was burning? #JessicaChambers @memphisnews @clarionledger

Ron Maxey‏ @rmaxey1 1m1 minute ago
She knows the person she saw after leaving home the second time was trying to stop her. She stopped because she thought it was a cousin. But it wasn’t. #JessicaChambers @memphisnews @clarionledger

She says she didn't want to get involved in this, but she's been honest since being contacted by investigators. She showed them where she believed she picked the man up that evening. #JessicaChambers

She says again the person she picked up said he wanted to go to his aunt, Julia Chambers, because her house was in fire. (No relation to Jessica.) #JessicaChambers @memphisnews @clarionledger

Defense is questioning why she hasn't spoken up about this in the past four years.

She never actually identified Quinton Tellis as being the one who she picked up.

Court's now in recess for 10-15 minutes.

Wow, Sherry Flowers' testimony was explosive. It places an individual about Tellis' description (male, African American, medium-small build) walking along Main Street toward Courtland the evening of the murder, about the time that it was starting to get dark, between her home at 74 Main Street and the CVFD station house. This person had flagged her to stop and then requested a ride to his aunt's house in Courtland, which he had been told had been in a fire and he wanted to check on her well being. Dropped this individual off on side of Hwy 51 after heading north from where Main Street stop sign was.

I am very surprised that neither the prosecution or the defense asked her to look at Quentin Tellis to say whether he was the person she had given a ride. She had already been able to identify Paul Rowlette, sitting in the front row behind the prosecution, as one of the persons who had interviewed her several times when she came forward.

Regards,
Clouseau

I had read earlier that she was unable to identify him...posted the link a while back.

Witness Kerry Hinson on the stand now. She's the daughter of the woman who had a possible house fire (ended up just being smoked up) that Courtland and Pope fire departments attended just before Jessica's car fire.

Cathy Russon‏ @cathyrusson 5m5 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers - Julia Chambers daughter is in the stand. The man Flowers says she picked picked up that night told her he heard his aunt's house was on fire and needed a ride. The daughter just testified that #QuintonTellis is a distant cousin

#JessicaChambers - The prosecution just put a link from the guy that asked for a ride that night to #QuintonTellis.

The hitch hiker believed to be Tellis told Flowers he was going to check on his aunt's house, which was supposed to be on fire. The home of Julia Chambers (no relation) did smoke up before Jessica's call. Tellis and Hinson (and therefore Julia Chambers) are family, Hinson said.
