Fayetteville mother charged with murder of adopted children transferred to state prison

Avante Deven, a Fayetteville mother charged with the murder of her two adopted children, was transferred to the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh.

WRAL News is working to learn specifically why Deven got transferred. Deven is designated a "safe keeper." It means an inmate has security, health or mental health issues of some kind.
 
I can imagine she is not exactly popular with her fellow detainees in county jail. I mean, a lot of those women are likely to be mothers, whose children are now in foster care due to their incarceration. And here is Avantae, a foster, turned adoptive, mother who killed not one but two children of other mothers in her care.

I'm gonna bet safety concerns. Second guess is feigned mental illness for defense purposes.

Right. Very good points! My is guess she's a type 2 diabetic or had blood pressure issues.

‘Evil monster’: Avantae Deven’s ex-roommate says she starved her, beat her

Tifanie Kreft, who spent time with Avantae Deven in 2000 in Las Vegas, claims that Deven withheld food, beat her, and forced her to dress and pose in a certain way to deceive her family into thinking she was OK.

Kreft’s half brother, Tyson Alvarez, used to be Avantae Deven’s husband.
“I moved in with them in June of 2000, and then, as soon as I got there, it was just like, it went to hell right away, like, living with them,” Kreft said. “The first few months, I lost so much weight because they were starving me [and] wouldn’t let me eat.”
Kreft provided photos she said that Avantae Deven made her take. They would also send letters back to Kreft’s family in Illinois.
Kreft’s mother told WRAL News that her daughter appeared dramatically thinner after she moved to Las Vegas.
According to Kreft, her appearance and smile were “all fake.”
“She [Avantae Deven] made me dress like that and pose like that, and she sent that to my family to make it look like I was OK, so nobody knew I was being hurt,” Kreft said.

This negates any theory that Avantae might have had good intentions when she adopted but then she became overwhelmed by the kids behaviors.

I can't even imagine the amount of absolute dirt she probably has on her to have all of those names and always avoid getting her picture taken.

How did she go from that to pure evil. Looks can be deceiving etc ... but that change is extremely drastic imo.
Are there any articles about her life pre-2000's?
 
I cannot retain my tears on this one. How can any human being do sth like this, a “mother” on top. I thought I was shocked enough today by the case of Jessie Peterson, but this one, I cannot even define how I feel sick.

Why in the world would she feel she needed so many identities? Law abiding citizens don't need aliases. She had to be up to something. But what?

911 call sheds new light in Fayetteville disappearance case of adopted siblings

A 911 call made in January 2024 by the children's adopted mother reveals that she told a dispatcher that Blake Deven had been missing since the 2022 holiday season.

Avantae Deven: I need to file a missing person report. I was trying to call 911.
Avantae Deven: He told me he was going to a Buddhist retreat, and he never came back.
Dispatcher: When did you last see him?
Avantae Deven: (struggles to recall) It was between Thanksgiving and Christmas...
Dispatcher: In 2023 or 2022?
Avantae Deven: Oh goodness gracious ... umm 2022.

At the end of the call, the dispatcher also asked Avantae Deven about the last location she saw Blake, and she was unable to give an answer.

Not to point fingers at anyone but IMO this should have triggered a welfare check. I mean apart from the absurdity of the content, a mother reporting early 2024 that she hasn t seen her MINOR son since 2022 is in no way normal.
A 12 yrs old boy stating he would go to a Buddhist retreat ?!
