Almost zero chance this was a carjacking or totally random occurrence. It's too precise and planned that in the exact minutes Hania is out starting the car and would be outside alone, he comes up and grabs her. That few minute window was literally his only shot. The only way this is a random abduction is if the carjacking was planned and he decided impulsively to take Hania which there is very little chance of - I'd say less than 5%.

Carjackers typically want the vehicle and want to take it to a place where they can sell it or it's parts for money (to a "chop shop" or the like). While some carjackers do take off with a vehicle that has a person inside it, that's almost always when the victim is already inside the vehicle and they need to get the hell out of there ASAP. If it's a child, the child is often let out later unharmed because the carjacker does not want a violent act on their hands and thus drawing all kinds of law enforcement attention. Carjackers will also use force - or the threat of it - to take a vehicle but less often will actually follow through on physical violence unless the person resists. In Hania's case, she was outside the vehicle and was forced into it so the perp had a chance to just steal the vehicle and leave her but purposely chose to abduct.

None of the characteristics of this one fit a random carjacking that happened to have Hania in the most unfortunate of situations. Nearly everything lines up with this was a targeted abduction and Hania was that target. The carjacking was a means to escape.

I didn't think it was simply a carjacking :( Was just hoping that there was a slim possibility he'd drop her off somewhere, unharmed.
So what are the chances he'd travel the highway as opposed to back roads, where they'd be unseen? MOO

Dear rainynights,

Thank you so much for the update.

Hoping that someone did notice something unusual and reports it either because they read the alert or during this road block canvass (which is a great tool).

The F.B.I. must be analyzing surveillance cams along that area.

Please let this beautiful young girl be found alive. And soon.

I said it in another thread, but I want to be sure everyone listens. Go vote today.
  • Vote for folks who will work to identify ways to work effectively with law enforcement, communities and school systems to address child abduction.
  • Vote for people who will build awareness around the issue of missing and exploited children for the purpose of finding children who are currently missing and to prevent future abductions.
  • Support candidates who will vote to increase maximum sentences for those who commit crimes against children.
  • Vote for candidates who believe in funding social services and measures to locate missing and exploited children.
  • Vote for people who will pass legislation to help kids.
Just go vote, damn it.

Lumberton roadblock aims to get info on missing child Hania Aguilar

The FBI says Lumberton police and North Carolina State Troopers hosted a roadblock Tuesday morning along Elizabethtown Road, just outside the Rosewood Mobile Home Park from where Aguilar was kidnapped.

FBI Public Affairs Specialist Shelley Lynch says the roadblock canvas targeted drivers who routinely travel the area and may have seen something that can help detectives located the missing teen. Drivers were shown a poster with pictures of Aguilar and a vehicle very similar to the one the kidnapper was last seen driving.

The FBI and Lumberton Police Department will host a news conference Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

With the car and license description, do you think the perp ditched the car somewhere? No sighting of it all day?
jmo
Maybe he has a place nearby and a garage, etc., to stash the car. If he is smart (who knoze?), he won't be driving that car after the initial getaway. Positive thoughts are tuff to maintain with what we have all seen on cases like this. Maybe this time she will break the bad string of events like this.

In her front yard.
In the daylight.
In front of her home.
A 13-year-old.
Just dammit.

Wondering why the need to “warm up” the car, hadn’t been cold there - 55/60 at 7am would not need heater on in the car?

And the vehicle belonged to the aunt that I guess was visiting from Summerville SC?
Or did it belong to someone else and they wanted it back?

I'm reading backwards and sometimes that isn't good but I'm sure someone will straighten me out if this has been discussed before. I'm puzzled as to why Hania had to warm the car up yesterday morning. It has been unusually warm weather in NC for the last two days. Yesterday high 70's and today at 80 degrees. I have in the past had vehicles that needed to run for a moment in order to actually run so maybe that is the reason. IDK.

LOL, I was asking the very same thing at the same time.

Thanks for all of the information although its terrifying for Hania.

It seems nowadays so many children are being abducted right off the streets in broad daylight.

I pray they find her safe soon.

Imo

I’m not in NC but I’m also warming up my car every morning to get the defroster going. Overnight condensation on my windshield totally obstructs vision when I drive into the sun. Same thing ever fall.

Lumberton Police Department | 11/06/2018 11:38am (EST)

Investigators conducted a road block canvas Tuesday morning along Elizabethtown Road, just outside of the Rosewood Mobile Home Park. Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol showed drivers the missing poster of Hania and directed some drivers to a nearby area to speak directly to a detective. The goal was to identify people who travel that route daily and may have seen something yesterday to help us #FindHania. If you see the stolen vehicle Hania was taken in, call 911. The Lumberton Police Department has set up a special tip line to call with information to find Hania. The tip line number is 910-272-5871.

Maybe just the thrill of being only 13 and being able to get behind the wheel of a car and actually start it up. Only a thought.

I live in Wilmington and I did not receive one either. I saw it first on the news.

No Amber Alert to our Iphones in the Winston-Salem area either, read it on local channel 12 webpage.

The electronic message boards (have no idea a correct name for them) on I-40 did have the Amber Alert and vehicle information on them!

BBM Sounds like there were some people with info! Gives me hope!! MOO

I think it's possible he had his own vehicle waiting nearby. It's pretty clear this was likely premeditated. Given the location it's highly unlikely he just happened upon the situation and took advantage of it.

However, anything is possible. It would help to know if this was a routine for Hania to go out and start the vehicle each morning, to be at her Aunt's each morning.

If it was routine, it's more likely that this was planned in advance. If this was out of the ordinary then we would have to consider that it was just the perfect storm of events.

If it was planned I think it'll be harder to find her than if it was spur of the moment.

I agree -- he had to have a vehicle waiting. Did he also have an accomplice in that vehicle? An accomplice would be helpful for disposing of the stolen car -- they could get out of town to a planned place and hide the vehicle. There are a lot of old tobacco barns or other farm buildings in the rural areas in Robeson County, and there are lots of wooded areas. If they headed south on I95, they could have parked it in a parking lot at South of the Border, a tourist trap just south of the NC/SC state line, about 20 miles from L'ton. Just a wild thought. Without an accomplice, it gets rather more complicated, but of course very possible and not really difficult.

Time is not on her side in this incident, as we all know. SMH
