Really interesting perspective in the Irish Independent as I search for the reason a pretty woman turns evil and kills and goes even more evil again trampling on the grave of her victim.

Good article. After reflecting on things after the trial, and reading this piece, it seems to me her motive was getting the children. She was obsessed with SC. I don't think the money was much of a factor to her, because she would always have her enablers, who would provide for her.

Guys I know we've discussed before but I am back at the bat.. does anyone know if the corbetts asked for Jc bat to be returned to him? Did they just get an empty sleeve? Wouldn't that have told us something i.e. That there were two bats. I'm just thinking the bat was allegedly SW Ms right?TM said young JC idolised STW and they were quite close. But STW the alleged original owner of bat didn't appear at all at the trial unless I missed it. Was he not prepared to back up the story re the bat being his?? Is he joining in the FB campaign or staying quiet?

Don’t think the C would want it but as a crime/murder weapon it will forever stay as a police evidence item. Probably incinerated after 50yrs where there will never be cause for a retrial to arise. Police warrants indicated that young Jack id the murder weapon as his.

I line that got me during that program, highlighted what a lot of us thought about Molly having to live up to the expectations of her parents or feel outcast. It was when she said she first came to Ireland and was feeling that things were moving too fast but was unable to phone her parents and say "I've failed again". I would hate my children not to be able to phone me when they really needed me.

With MM just one doesn’t know when it’s an act and when it’s not an act. What is genuine about her? I have seen nothing but acting. Can’t only imagine what JC suffered in trying to control these acts or is it insanity. Deep down she had no values system in determining right from wrong, lie from truth. She was the all American bombshell that was her calling card. It was all one big made-up act for what she wanted and what she wanted she usually got and SM and TM were always in the background to ensure this.

IMHO

MM already knew that JC had changed his life insurance over to her as beneficiary (or as trustee beneficiary for his children?), and the house was in her name, and then in America, minor children would get social security benefits till they were 18. Don't forget that by Fall 2014, she had already gotten advice from two attorneys, one a divorce attorney, and the second a child custody specialist attorney. Jack is reported to had mentioned at one point that she had recorders all over the house, documenting the abuse so she could gain custody of children on provision she was allowed to adopt. He refused consistently on adoption though. That was flaw in that plan.

She started out interview in lie, aspiring doctors. She barely completed high school, and didn't complete year of college. She left out that before Molly-the-aspiring-doctor went to "find herself" she left behind a wrecked fiance named Keith Maginn and job as waitress, and was in desperate mental health state. I've never understood how Sharon M as a mother let this very disturbed woman take care of little children without some sense of fear and guilt what MM might do given her shattered mental health state at that time.

The jury didn't know of her bi-polar illness, but still picked up that something was mentally off about MM?

Got to admire the integrity of the jury, they didn't know for sure and couldn't confirm their suspicions, so instead kept within the guidelines of what they did know and were thorough in what they were given to reach a conclusion.

There was a recommendation for therapy in prison, wasn't there? I hope she gets it. So she can come to terms with her actions, instead of deluding herself further with her complexes.

I'd have a tiny grain of sympathy for TM for being caught up in her blame-shifting delusions, but he had plenty of opportunity to get her help before (perhaps even before the events of Kevin Maginn's book) and instead chose to enable her.

This sounds trite, but sums it up nicely - You reap what you sow!

Couldn't agree more, jury said she'd weep when children mentioned, but stone cold when pictures of a very battered slaughtered really JC were shown, they knew instinctively something was off. The 2020 show was badly done IMO, perhaps the exclusive interviews left too little time to present fairly, but I remember one statement by ADA not included, and that was, to paraphrase. 'they could have stopped, at one point, they could have stopped'. Yes, Jason might have pressed assault charges, and divorced her or he might have simply run for the hills with his kids back home to recover from her attack. But no, Molly and Tom Martens literally slaughtered the man, they'd have been arrested for killing a dog the way they killed that man. The Martens may keep up the facade that they did it to protect Molly, Tom, the kids, the world but only their nearest and dearest are making a show of believing them. I don't think Molly is capable of telling the truth, Tom should though. For the sake of his sons, he should. He and Molly shattered their lives also, and they all need to move on. Molly will always have a few of her loyal accolades, the ones still today spreading horrendous lies for her, perhaps they have nothing else now, having staked their own credibility and standing in their community on her getting off. They can look up prison visiting schedule and take turns going up there. But have no fear, she will survive in prison, her kind always does, they manipulate everyone and anyone, leaving nothing but wreckage behind.

The one thing that I have had trouble explaining to myself was the allegation of choking/strangling. It never seemed as it was possible for JC to have done this in a malevolent way, so I trIed to come up with alternate explanations.
The one thing that people who claimed to know TM said consistently was that he did not lie. I tried to go through as many statements attributed to TM as I could find and tried to see if there was a way to narrowly define words and make the statements appear true. Bingo, the brick did it for me. He consistently stated he never saw a "brick" never saw MM use a "brick", didn't recall a "brick" but testified that MM told him afterward that she hit JC with the "paver".
Now how do you get JC's hand's around her neck? And in what scenario could the "kill her" comments be made but not be a threat?
I believe that she told us last night on the 20/20 show. When talking about the "strangulation" she said it occurred "sometimes during sex".
Erotic asphyxiation - after her visit to the divorce attorney I believe she came up with the plan. How to get rid of Jason but keep the children, mortgage free home, life insurance and other assets? She begins convincing JC that a little bedroom play will spice things up. Erotic asphyxiation will push all of her buttons after all they are in the 7 year itch window of their marriage. Once she has JC comfortable with her game it is time to move to the next phase.
She counts on the other mom's and friends to remember seeing marks on her neck from previous hot nights and come forward to defend her when the time comes (oops that was a fail) She may have taken some pictures and have them yet or something could happened to them. She begins crying on the shoulders of TM and SM about how badly JC IS treating her gradually building to so much fear that they finally have to drop everything and run to find out what is going on for themselves.
Now time for the final phase. With TM and SM on their way she played dutiful barmaid and tries to get as much alcohol as possible into JC before they arrive so she can portray him as having a drinking problem. A little more alcohol with dinner and a little Trazadone to make sure he will sleep like a baby. He may even go off to bed before everyone else allowing her to continue setting the scene.
Once everyone is tucked in tightly for the night she begins stimulating JC. One thing every woman knows is that when a man awakes fully aroused he will have only one thing on his mind. She whispers gently in his ear that it is time to play the game. Once the the game is in progress she screams. JC, thinking the scream is delight claps a hand over her mouth to keep from awakening the children. She convinces him to resume the game and as he does TM throws open the door and is standing there with the bat reflecting in the low light.
Perhaps realizing that he had been set up or more likely just from embarrassment JC says he is going to kill her, not as a threat but to break the tension of the moment. JC jumps up using MM as a shield for his nakedness and attempts to get to the bathroom for something to cover himself. TM begins the attack with MM joining in. Now she can't have him survive and tell the true story so once he is on the floor she kneels finishes him off with the paver/brick. She plays hysterical victim delaying the 911 call as long as possible.
Now TM can honestly tell the story? Yes and yet he is still guilty of Murder 2 from not trying to stop her from finishing him off. Perhaps once TM got started with the attack his hatred of JC kicked in and led the way. This is only a theory but is accounts for all of the details.
What do you think? Possible? Probable? Impossible?

I just read the facebook comments on the abc programme.. I feel sick at the hatred espoused within them. i dont even want to discuss it.
the only thing that struck me forcibly was the single hair. I repeatedly asked Ben Dispach Comic on twitter to clarify size of strand.. he repeatedly lied and described a tuft of hair. Ditto crappy Winston Salem journal..

The jury got this one right. She destroyed her husband, the 2 children she claims to love, her father, her mother, their extended families, friends and neighbors all because she wanted to get rid of him but keep the money and his children. Selfish, evil, cruel, mental.

The crime scene photos show that he was moving around trying to escape the attack which looks like it began near his own bed and neither of them had a mark.

Who has a landscape paver in their bedroom? Anyone? Please, a show of hands.

They never found another other bat at the property, Law Enforcement think it is the same bat but I guess could not prove it and the last thing that the family wanted was to put any of the children on the stand.

When I saw the glasses on the nightstand, I thought they were TMs, as they were rectangular, in shape. However, didn't JC wear glasses, as well?

I find your theory very distasteful and disrespectful to a dead man to be honest. There is no evidence to support an accusation of choking/strangling for any reason!

And they tried, I believe they put in a motion to compel them to testify, motion was refused. Could you imagine the damage that would have done to them, having to go back to that town, seeing people in court that you knew from your previous life that was shattered. I shudder to think.

Well Tom definitely lied about Mr Fitzpatrick. He also said he didn't know what Molly worked as . He lied and said he didn't know about Molly being engaged to the writer . He couldn't remember why Molly rang so many times . Probably a lot more those are off the top of my head
