It seemed obvious to most of us here at WS when they called off the search. But that's us. I think the news station is probably just looking for another angle - another update to the story so they can keep it alive and clicking on their site.

You're right. I guess I didn't think of it from the news persons point of view. It's just so strange to print the story now, IMO. This story should have been printed the night they called off the search OR the morning after before they found her body. I was wondering what their angle is and are they suggesting the toddler found wasn't Jordyn. But it's probably just for clicks like you said.

“I would like to thank our community for the love, support and prayers you have shown for my baby girl following her tragic death this past week,” said Jaylene Dumont in an emailed statement provided to the Observer.

“This has been the most challenging, heart-wrenching time of my life, and I appreciate the outpouring of support for me and my family.."

Sounds to me like the community really did try to 'love and support' the mother and kids in that house... but what about mum? She knew he was violent, and if the neighbours statements are true then she knew he was violent to this little one... mum should face charges herself imo

I wonder how long it will be before she goes to see her boyfriend in jail.

Kinnett says he met Jaylene Dumont in Hawaii about five years ago. The two moved to the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in Rolette County, North Dakota, when she became pregnant with Jordyn. It was there that Kinnett says Jaylene Dumont first met McCullen. He says McCullen and Jaylene Dumont moved to North Carolina when Jaylene Dumont became pregnant again. Kinnett is not the father of the second child.

Argh. I read that last line in rumors earlier today and was hoping it wasn't true. Poor baby girl. :(

Well that just made my head explode.

Maybe I shouldn't post this, but that just made me laff. And maybe I just needed to laff -- Thanks. (Still chuckling -- can't help it!)

(I hope this didn't offend...) :)

A look at child deaths in Gaston County when DHHS has had contact with the family/child. As in previous articles, they mention that there will be a Child Fatality Task Force to investigate the circumstances surrounding Jordyn's death. They also detail the findings from the CFTF which investigated the death of another Gaston County child, poor little Addison Lanham. That was one of the absolute worst, most despicable, heartbreaking cases of abuse I've ever heard about.

I find the time for completing these reports completely unacceptable. We are talking YEARS here. NO excuse for that.

A Child Fatality Task Force has met concerning the Nov. 22, 2014, death of 11-month-old Layla Casey, but the public report has not been completed yet, according to Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services. A Child Fatality Task Force review has been called for in the May 11, 2015, death of 4-year-old Malachi Golden, but has not yet been scheduled.

I imagine it will be quite a while before Jordyn's case is taken up by the CFTF, and years before we learn anything. :(

Guardians of Children bikers escorted Jordyn's body to the funeral home: http://www.wccbcharlotte.com/2016/08/24/guardians-escort-jordyn-dumont-home/

The Guardians say it’s cases like this that make them get involved and want to help other children.

“That’s what we try to do is get message out about awareness, it’s the responsibility of everybody to if you see abuse going on its our duty to report it,” said Bill Smith of Guardians of the Children.

Jordyn's father plans to sue DHHS. He also says he still wants to fight for custody of Jordyn's half sister even though the girl is not his biological child: http://www.twcnews.com/nc/north-car...nty-social-services-could-have-done-more.html

“They [DHHS] might as well have signed Jordyn's death certificate because as far as i'm concerned, they are the ones who went there to investigate and didn't investigate very long,” said Kinnett.

This week, Kinnett said he's meeting with attorneys to see what he can do.

"Try to change some laws and you know, try to sue the, the Gaston County and the DSS department because these people that are in charge are obviously not very good at it,” said Kinnett.

Kinnett said he wants to hold Jorydn's mother, Jaylene Dumunt, responsible for what happened. And even he's not her biological father, Kinnett said he's also fighting for custody of Jordyn's one year old sister, Angel Dumont.

"Make sure she can't have Angel back, even though she's not mine,” said Kinnett. “I still don't believe she should be able to have her.”

Bless him. I don't think he has any chance of custody of the baby but I wish it were possible. He does claim he paid child support. Does anyone know if a non-bio father who pays child support can get custody?

While William McCullen, 23, sits behind bars charged with murder, Jordyn's father, Josh Kinnett, talked to WBTV about his daughter's death.

Kinnett has hired an attorney and will meet with him Thursday morning. One week after the tragic events Kinnett still feels he is not getting the answers he deserves.

According to Gaston County Police, the investigation into Jordyn Dumont's death is still very much in its early stages, and just because someone has not been charged yet, they said, does not mean they won't be.

However, that is not good enough for Dumont's father. He feels the ball was dropped.

“They have not told me hardly anything. The things that I can and cannot do - and that is something huge, and I feel like that is something everyone should be able to have," said Kinnett.

The Gaston County District Attorney responded, stating he, "would not answer any questions that would jeopardize a first degree murder case."

The Gaston County DA also confirmed that his office has not received any evidence of wrongdoing by the mother, Jaylene Dumont, in the case.

Crystal McCullen says everyone considered her brother, called Skip since he was 12, the good one among the McCullen kids while they were growing up.

The three youngest McCullens were close in age. He was six years older than the youngest McCullen and two years younger than Crystal McCullen.

They grew up in Mooresville before heading to a quiet neighborhood in Gaston County in the mid-2000s. They skated together. Skip McCullen would hike Crowders Mountain with their father.

About 10 years later, that house would become a crime scene.

William “Skip” McCullen Jr., now 25, is in jail. He’s charged with the first-degree murder of his girlfriend’s daughter, Jordyn Ann Dumont. In September, she would have turned 4.

Crystal McCullen said she hasn’t spoken to her brother since his arrest. She wants the community and media to leave her family be. They don’t know what happened, but they will await the facts at trial, she said.

“Everyone should let Jordyn rest in peace, and let him have a fair trial,” she said. “Please respect our privacy. We’ve lost family, too … We have nobody.”

The header on this story is incorrect, Crystal is not Jordyn's sister! She is McCullen's sister.

Matter of fact, isn't she the one who lived in the house also? The one mentioned by the neighbor, who while watching the kids was fighting with her boyfriend?

It does say she is the sister of the suspect in the title but I agree that it's confusing the way they worded it.

What a good guy. Re Angel -- he might have a bit of a case if he emphasizes that the girls need to stay together -- that might help a little.

Is there a 3rd sister? I thought it was just Jordyn and Angel?

No 3rd sister -- I guess I'm getting tired, too -- I was thinking of Jordyn & Angel staying together...

Please pardon. My head is wobbly... :)
