Her brother is 7 years old, right? Why would anyone allow a child to be on NG (or any similar program)? Please tell me this is an older brother I wasn't aware of.

This is my guess also. AD's way of cleaning up the mess of what she put this little girl through during the time she lived with her. I believe dad and child services were closing in on her and AD knew Shaniya would tell everyone what AD was doing with her.

Ive been only a quiet reader for years now... and finally decided to start posting. I have gotten very attached to this case. Thanks everyone for a great site with a wealth of information.

I bolded the portion I wanted to respond to respectfully, I hope you don't mind.

In my post on the last thread I gave some thoughts I had on that:

Your post gives me the opportunity to clarify what I was trying to say.

When the murder charges are brought forth it will be for both MAM and AD. If they are not both charged I will be floored.

The reason being is that both have already been charged with at least one felony. Both of those charges appear to be directly linked to Shaniya.

MAM has been charged with a felony (kidnapping). Shaniya's death would not have happened if he had not commited that felony and her murder during or as a result of that felony means her murder can be brought before the court as a charge of felony murder.

AD has been charged with felony child abuse. Shaniya's death would not have happened if she had not commited that felony. As a result, Shaniya's murder could be brought before the court as a felony murder. It doesn't matter if she was the one that dealt the final act that murdered Shaniya.

Shaniya's murder was commited during/or as a result of those felonies. IMHO and my uneducated interpretation of the laws of that state. Both can be charged with Shaniya's murder. It doesn't have to be one or the other. As far as anyone else being involved, I'll have to wait and see what LE says or what the autopsy reveals. I just don't know at this point in time.
I hope I have made sense of what I'm trying to say...for some reason I'm having a hard time getting it from my head through my fingers today!

The judge explained to both of them how many months that all means to their incarceration if found guilty.
It would be too hard to find the thread now but it seems like accumulative for all the counts they would each get about 400months each. (with no calculator and I am bad at math) I assume that is about 35 years. NOT ENOUGH!!!:furious: LWOP is what I think she deserves; Reason - as much as I hate to say this she is a drug addict which makes her out of her mind.
But if the universe gave her a DP I could live with it, this was an evil act.

the contrast between the life of party dresses and smiles and comfort that Shaynia knew and the last few weeks of her life really bother me

I do recall that he said she had her own place (no, the sister was the one leasing it, and felons lived there too)...and had worked for 6 months..(apparently only since august)

Without paperwork showing custody?
Someone had to have custody of this child to take her to the doctor, enroll her in school, to get her insurance.
So, legally, who had rights to this kid?

Not necessarily..
Not sure what other states do, but many years ago my husband signed a temporary guardianship letter over to me..It states that in the event he is unavailable to pick up from school, take to the doctor, make major medical decisions etc, that he gives that right to me as their stepmother. This letter is still in effect until a time that he chooses to write another one saying it is null and void. I keep this document in my wallet, and have only had to use it once.
I have also held insurance over the boys, taken them to doctors, emergency room, and have enrolled them into school. This year, I signed a release to the USMC to allow my 16 year old to go to Paris Island to bootcamp with his ROTC group at school for a week.


I am going to assume that Aunt Carey had some kind of written consent from the father..and also going to assume that the mother could have given written consent to anyone she chose, and it wouldn't be a problem since their was no formal guardianship over Shaniya.

I really would like to know where Antoinettes sister "Brenda' is....and where is her/other baby that was in the house?? I heard the 7 year old is in foster care...good

My DH's job has us transferring quite frequently, since she has been with us, we have lived in NC, TN & SC. We have encountered no problems in any of those states.
