As they should be. Whatever's under there ain't goin' nowhere. They have a lot of protocols and procedures to follow. Every spec of dust literally could be evidence. It's like an archaeological dig on steroids. Everyone should be very pleased that they are moving slowly, methodically. We just have to be patient.

It would seem that they should have waited to actually find bones or a body before claiming that human remains have been found. Now it looks like they won't find anything.

from what I understand..they have only dug down 1 inch.

this is gonna be a slow process..These men and women are determined to bring justice for Susan

Why would they need to call in an anthropologist if they haven't seen bones yet? I'm assuming they have and that's how they know it's recent (in the last 10 years). If not, how would the anthro. know that it was recent from just looking at the soil.

Sorry, jumping ahead in the thread. I was an archaeologist for over a decade, and, you can tell by looking at the soil. You can tell that it is not natural soil. You can tell that it may be a grave site before you remove the soil.

When soil is disturbed, carbons, and, other organic materials, get mixed into it. The difference can be subtle, but, with a trained eye, you can definitely see it. Even if that disturbance was hundreds of years ago, the difference remains.

I understand, but it was also said that this was a "shallow grave." I guess the word "shallow" must be relative...I am guessing less than 6 feet since that would be a more or less "normal" grave. So I am surprised that not even a bone has been found, JMO.

It sounds like they have to dig deeper; it's the fact that 7 different dogs at different times have hit on the same spot that tells them to keep digging.

I just can't help but think LE know more but are limited by what they can actually do without proof.

The last I heard while driving home tonight on ksl 1160 was that they had dug down two feet and found no remains, but that dogs are still hitting. I think they also said a couple of fresh dogs were found today. This station has been great. They had the ME on earlier.

Wait one inch? Or one foot?

Like I said, I was speculating based on this:

"may not have been visible to the human eye"

If it's not visible to the human eye then it has to be "dust" of some sort. Whether it's natural or burned. I said burned because 2 years is not a long time to have remains turned to dust.

Unless they're tiny bone fragments? IDK

I don't know how to describe it, but, burned human bones are easy to determine with the naked eye. There are always fragments, and, even the burned fragments have elements that are unique to humans. LE may not be able to tell but the anthropologists will.

Hey guys, if you post news tweets, please include a link. Same for public/group FB pages. Thanks.

Won't there also be different types of insects/larvae depending on the length of time remains are there? How far back from time of burial would there still be insect/larvae? TIA

I'm sorry. I only worked on burials that were at least hundreds of years old. I don't know the answers to your questions.

What are "remains" if not bones? Clarify? RT @KING5Seattle: No bones found at Susan Powell search site: kng5.tv/psOXiR

I thought the anthropologist had come out and said the remains were not American Indian? Or, did I misread something?

OK caught up enough to take a breath and find y'all a link to ksl 1160. You can listen by phone or computer. I'm not listening now but they usually cover live sports events or such at night.

Not knowing how far down the remains are they will be very careful removining the soil, just taking a little at a time. Trying to make sure they don't miss any bones or fragments, or any possible evidence. They also don't want to hit the bones with a sharp edge and cause any marks on the bones.

I think what was said was that the site/remains/whatever was found was not the age of an ancient burial ground...nothing about race as far as I know.

Just a little "typing outloud here" to see if anyone else has any connect the dot pieces I am missing.

Thursday August 18th- Search in Ely, Nevada begins

Thursday August 25th- Warrant served on Josh's home in WA

Friday August 26th- Josh is reported to have gone camping again with the boys, leaving late at night on a whim according to SP

***Where did Josh go "camping"? How long was he gone?***

Thursday September 1- Reported by local WSer that Susan's boy was at school in WA

Monday September 12-New search starts in Utah

Questions of interest to me: Where did Josh go on a whim on August 26th? Did he know that the police took evidence that would tell them where Susan was during the warrant search on August 25th? How long was Josh gone? Could he have potentially moved Susan FROM or TO the Topaz mountain location during his second "camping trip"? Could Tony Abbott, the witness that reported seeing strange activities near Topaz mountain, have only seen this activity RECENTLY (like maybe when Josh was "camping" the second time) ? If the dirt near where the dogs are hitting is being reported to be recently disturbed- what exactly is that timeframe? Weeks possibly?
