They're done with the site. They're going to start searching the area tomorrow. The media is going to be taken to the hole in a few minutes.

I hope the bad weather forces them to rethink what they could be doing with this time, which is sitting JP's and his dad's *advertiser censored* down in separate interrogation rooms with a spotlight, and asking some VERY hard questions.

:maddening:

I agree -- and why not do it simultaneously?

On another subject -- I have to believe in the cadaver dogs, too. Good ones can detect a body in a lake at night -- amazing, IMO. I saw a demo in the Caylee case, IIRC. (Was it???) Anyway. The body could have been moved, yes, but some body was, or is, there, seems to me.

Police have found about 100 pieces of what appears to be charred wood with some human decomposition on them.

They are unsure of how long it has been there, but they said it is likely that there was a crime scene at the dig site at some point.

WTF? So is that the source of the smell, or is there still something else... and does that mean a body was burned with wood??
I've never burned a body, so I guess it didn't occur to me that there would be wood along with any decomposition/tissue/bones.
And wouldn't that mean if they don't find a body, that someone separated out the body from the wood? I am so confused...

Apparently, they're quite sure the fire was used to burn either a body, or clothing that been on a body. There is no way it could have burned bones. So, they feel the bones have been moved.

jp said he and the boys had "smores and stuff". that needs fire. and investigators have been tight lipped about what the boys had to say about the trip.

Either that or someone had a campfire but didn't necessarily burn the body, and then buried the charred wood with the body to conceal that anyone had been there and had a fire.

But if they are done with this site, they must be sure they have everything that was in there, so where is the body? Did JP have himself a campfire a just a few weeks ago to burn what was left, then bury the remnants of the fire, and take any other charred remains to a dumpster somewhere?

The whole idea of what he might have done with her in the name of escaping justice is just sick and mind-boggling!!

About 100 pieces of wood ranging in size from a dime to a golf ball were found, said West Valley City Lt. Bill Merritt. It is believed the dogs were indicating on the wood, which would have been used to destroy human remains, he said.

"There’s a very good possibility that this at one point or another was a crime scene," said Merritt. "Whether it’s linked to ours, we don’t know."

So is this what they said on the news, or is this your theory? I'm guessing theory since LE has been hesitant to give much detail. ?

Sorry, I'm typing this on an iPad, which I hate.

That was all just on KUTV-2 in SLC.

If not Susan's family, some family will have answers after the DNA is tested.

One positive in this search; the p's know that no one has forgotten Susan.

Caylee Anthony - they took 8 days to dig around her "burial" even though her body was on top of the ground.

The remains were found in a bag before police even got there. There were some remains missing so the 8 days involved that process to recover any that could be found.

Not buried in dirt, just beneath vegetation... but took a week.

It wasn't like Caylee, Brooke was "buried" in vegetation and under a tree.
They also had a guilty plea and sentence already... so preserving evidence would not have been nearly as high of a priority.

Also worth noting that Brooke's parents went up to the scene where the body was found.

Led to the body over the weekend, announced it Monday Sept 21st:

Announced they had finished recovering the body - September 28th:

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/62498637.html

Brooke's body location was discovered on a Friday because the killer confessed with a plea bargain of taking the death penalty off the table and getting life in prison with no parole in his home state instead. The police went there Friday and at the Monday press conference were able to announce the remains were indeed Brooke and that they had matched dental records. The days beyond that were to ensure all remains were recovered.

If I'm not mistaken, someone could have cut themselves - perhaps while chopping the wood to build the fire with - then bled on the wood, and that blood would have decomposed, and... well... you know the rest of the story.

*facepalm*

Do you have a link that says they are done with the site?

This article says more LE will be brought in to search the site on Sunday. It also says, however, that Sunday could be the last day of the search.

The evidence will be taken back to the state crime laboratory for analysis. The search will continue on Sunday with extra manpower expected to be brought to the site. But authorities said Sunday could be the last day for this search effort.

But detectives are confident enough they won’t find anything else at the site and are stopping excavation, said Merrit. The hole by Sunday was just over 2 feet deep, 3 feet long, and 2 feet wide, he said. A forensic specialist will now examine the wood.
