I do not think he is a member of the US Navy. They use private contractors on US ships for certain functions-Kitchen and food prep mostly. This is what a "chief steward" is. Members of the Merchant Marine/Private contractors operate parts of this vessel.

Article does not say that he is a member of the US Navy-just on board a Navy Ship.

The Seay's crew consists of 30 civilian merchant mariners, all employees of Patriot Contract Services, of Walnut Creek, Calif., which has a contract to operate six cargo ships in the Ready Reserve Fleet, said William L. Cook, an MSC public affairs specialist, based in Norfolk, Va.

Six of the crewmembers are women, explained the ship's master, Capt. Roger L. Haskell. Female crewmembers have become common on MSC ships. "The women are just like the men," he said. "Some are good, and some aren't."

One of the women, in fact, has performed so well that she has been promoted into the officer ranks. Tamara Becker has been named third mate in the deck department. Becker, an eight-year veteran of the Merchant Marine, said she earned the promotion "by meeting all of the requirements and working hard."

The Seay's crew even includes a full family. "We have a husband, wife and daughter on board," Haskell said. "One of my colleagues sent his greetings to them," he joked. "He said, 'Say hi to the Brady Bunch.'

I was going to mention that the navy guy had no chits to pull in. My retired physicist that was a civilian worked for the navy for 35 years, everything he worked on needed a contract that went thru an admiral in Washington.

I want to know something basic and maybe silly. Why is the first descriptive phrase of Abby...Hispanic, because of her last name? She is 1/2 something else too, why not-----American teen?

JMO but Abigail's case is still pretty new and it would really be a shame if the thread was closed down, like some others, due to tossing names around etc. when no one has even been named a POI, or for that matter, LE has not even stated 100% that a crime has been committed...but JMO.

Yes. No names were linked in my posts. Any names were released in the links from MSM. I did not link anyone's page. From what I understand, you can discuss the page but cannot copy or paste or link. My latest posts just provide more detail and my opinion on what is reported in MSM. Someone had questions on ZH boyfriend being in the Navy etc.. I do not believe the MSM article states he was in the Navy just that he was on a Navy ship. That navy ship used private contractors.

I posted ZH page some time ago and I believe it was ok. I didnt post or link in these new posts. let me know if I am missing something,.?

Probably the same reason 60-year-olds are called "elderly" by MSM reporters. I find that offensive myself. Seriously, most likely because her last name is Hispanic.

Couldn't sleep last night, so spent time on Celina Cass's case. Abby's appears to be heading in that same cold case file. Celina was found within a week, and still no arrest. Abby hasn't even been found a month later. This is scary, terrifying scary! LE has made no mention to stop kids from walking, or remind them to ALWAYS walk in groups, never leave anyone by themselves, be aware of your surroundings, etc. No warnings to the public, and no issue of a statement that the community is not at risk.

While reading Celina's threads, it was mentioned that at least 1000 homicide cases were unsolved in NH alone! I'm sure the link to that was in the last thread of Celina's.

Bothers me because we know Israel Keyes was in NH at times, so no telling how many of the killings were by him.

My son is retired Navy and I had NO idea they hired outside contractors on their ships.

Makes perfect sense though. With food handling, preparation and food safety.

So there would be a contract and much responsibility to getting a ship full of hungry sailors fed.

Plus leaving ship and buying a ticket would cost $$$

Once again I had no idea the Navy hired cooks.

Just a weather update: I woke up to an inch+ of snow this morning in NH, and judging by a couple of webcams I looked at in the Conway area, they got some snow last night, too. Not a lot, but enough to cover the ground. It may all melt today, but it was just one more reminder that winter/snow is coming soon.

Didn't LE say they had people say they saw Abby taking the power line trail? Then why are they now on MHFAH face book page asking people to call the FBI is they saw anything on the North South road?

I guess because there have been several unconfirmed reports of AH being seen walking north on North-South Road, which is to the north of the Power Line trail and to the north of US 302.

There were 151 murders in New Hampshire from 2000-2010, so either NH hasn't solved 98% of cases, or the 1000 number is off.

According to the website above, which uses statistics from the FBI and was put together by the Wall Street Journal, only 6 of those 151 murders involved a victim 17 or younger. The attorney general of the state speaking to the media in 3 cases should tell us how rare this is in NH...as how often do we hear from the AG in other cases?

That number seems really high. Do you have a link to support that number, such as a link to NH crime statistics, etc.? There are not very many murders of any kind in NH each year, so I don't see how there could be that many unsolved homicides here.

Thank you for that information. I don't see how they could include missing persons in the homicide data, unless there's significant evidence that the missing person was murdered.
