What I don’t understand is why wouldn’t he immediately call in on radio & stay put in the stairwell/door area since it appeared abnormal. Why leave that spot if it was an oddity until it was further investigated?
Why leave that spot & start walking down the hallway before anyone else arrived?

What we don't know is a security guard's job description, including whether or not he was required to remain posted at the exact spot of a blocked fire escape after contacting the building engineer/maintenance guy. Possibly he wasn't required to and left the immediate area to check on the status of other exits on the same floor? Especially in an unionized environment, job requirements are generally very specific.

Regardless, after the fact his presence resulted in somewhat mitigating the extent of the tragedy, and why he was referred to as a hero.

No, they don't. They've already said that the suite will never be rented out again.

But right now the whole floor is off limits IMO

Daily mail is a tabloid that isn't known for its accuracy.

Agreed.

And as a New Yorker, I would like to add, that the NY Post is a tabloid newspaper that generates eye rolls. It would not be a newspaper that would be cited on serious issues. It is known for its sensationalism and attention seeking stories and headlines.

The New York Post is mainstream (but barely) and not considered reputable, gold standard, journalism That paper is largely regarded as a joke in NYC.

ie; It is read with a grain of salt, if at all, but mostly it is avoided locally like the plague.

I am stunned regarding the amount of time spent dissecting JC in comparison to the time spent pondering and dissecting the killer.

Not likely that small “whales” use the freight or service elevators. Nope.

I agree, well somewhat. Undoubtably, most small whales would never use the freight elevators, or even know where they are.

Rather, I can see the hotel simply extending the option to comped Whales (both big and small, celebrity and non celebrity) to use the freight elevators or employee corridors if they want to do so.

Thus, a non employee using a freight elevator might not have been seen as extremely unusual whether person was a genuine celebrity seeking to be more discrete, or simply an unknown "small whale" like SP.

As aside note, I (ordinary tourist on a limited budget) got into a freight elevator by mistake in the Stratosphere casino once. Rather than asking me questions or getting suspicious, the employees in the elevator joked about it and said I was going to be in for a long ride. They were right.

Fair enough, but that wasn't what the OP said. He specifically stated that they wanted to get that suite ready to rent out, which we've known for days is not true.

Thinking about it, I can understand why SP completely fell off the radar. He was not new in town, had no prior criminal record, no indication of having caused any trouble that we know.....just a weird sloppyily dressed introvert who dropped a lot of cash into video poker machines for hours on end.

And even his personality probably fits the 'Vegas profile of a well heeled video poker enthusiast: Moderate jerk who is not people oriented. Rather he / she is shallow, but not exploitive, unpleasant- but not aggressive.

My bet is that a lot of such people sit at high limit video poker machines all over Las Vegas. Thus, SP was not going to raise any even limited suspicions.

Can you imagine what would happen if an average, non-wealthy person tried to obstruct an investigation? It wouldn't end well.
Non wealthy people obstruct investigations on a regular basis (cover for abusive brothers, cover for drug dealers, or as a sympathetic boss, cover for an employee who owes child support by paying in cash, "forget" about events etc etc).

These people, whether they are wealthy, poor, or in between, rarely face punishment. At the end of the day, there are no laws which dictate that people must cooperate with an investigation.

Obstruction is a crime, but probably difficult to prosecute whether the person is an executive obstructing an investigation into large scale embezzlement, or the working class friend of a chronic DWI driver "forgetting" stuff.

The revelation that it's so easy to bring multiple weapons into a Vegas hotel has made me decide to not return there. That MB may have been blase about possible gunfire in their hotel before Paddock began shooting into the concert crowd outside is also disturbing.

I'm also going to ask about gun and explosives policies before choosing a hotel on future trips. It seems crazy average Americans have to worry about this kind of thing. It's not too much to ask that people who need massive amounts of weapons put them in temporary storage somewhere.

But, that's the situation in ANY hotel in the U.S. And no hotel I've been in abroad has ever screened for weapons. In fact, there's almost nowhere in the U.S. that you can't go without weapons. This tolerance and even encouragement of the presence of weapons isn't at all unique to LV.

-i think the skepticism comes from him using the service elevator, versus a VIP/private.

Still don't get why which type of elevator he took would possibly signal some sort of conspiracy, or even elevate the degree of suspicion to the level that I'm reading in this thread. I guess it's just because SP thus far is such an enigma, so there needs to be something to fill the void. But anyway, I shouldn't contribute to :deadhorse: either. :)

SNIPPED FROM ABOVE:

Still, drawing and painting takes more time now for the 49-year-old artist. He can’t sit for too long, and he said the tremors in his left hand — the one he uses to draw — are worse some days than others. But Moore believes his artistic talent is his way of spreading kindness and healing.

“I’m allowing my tremors to move the pencil for me,” he explained. “I have to constantly alter my technique, but that just means every picture is unique, like the 58 victims.”

Each portrait takes Moore about three hours to complete. In that time, it isn’t only the pencil strokes of a victim’s smile or the lines near their eyes that he learns. The details of their lives, Moore said, are etched into his memory.

“Erick Silva was a security guard. Jennifer was a teacher, and Cameron worked for the city,” he said. “I wish I could meet all their family members, but since I can’t, this is my way of doing that.”

As of Friday, the artist had completed 42 of the 58 portraits. On his list Friday, he said, were Carolyn Lee Parsons, Patricia Mestas and Jordyn Rivera.
“Carrie’s from Seattle, and Jordyn and Pati both loved country music,” he explained. “Before I finish detailing the portraits, I’ll go online and read more about them.”

“During that initial explanation of events, Lombardo said it was a “miracle” Campos survived.

Campos became a critical witness the second he was shot in the right thigh.

Investigators recovered about 200 rounds in the 32nd-floor hallway where the security guard had ducked and covered while nursing his wound.
When the gunfire stopped, *** the sheriff said, Campos even helped hotel guests to safety***until officers arrived to breach the gunman’s room.

Then, without much context, Lombardo said early last week that Campos had actually been shot at 9:59 p.m., six minutes before the gunman ever opened fire on the festival. *** He added that Campos never actually helped hotel guests out but he still considered Campos a hero***

Within a day, MGM disputed the sheriff’s new timeline. Then, the hospitality and entertainment company went on to say Campos had actually been shot within a 40-second window prior to when the gunman opened fire on the festival crowd.

A day later, the sheriff agreed with
MGM.

-First i’m hearing about the sheriff changing the statement about JC staying to help hotel guest??

-First on the specific location of JC wound, his right thigh versus his leg.

Sorry......but you don’t get to use the service elevator as a choice if you’re a preferred guest.

Considering shooter was behind closed doors, returning fire would presumably not do much good.

And never mind security guard was investigating a door alarm. One doesn't expect the need to be armed to investigate a door alarm.

Last time I checked, bullets can go through wooden doors. Security may not have hit him but shooting back may have scared Paddock enough to stop firing at the crowd and seek cover in the room. Having armed security guards may have saved some lives.
