We did hear a peep about the K-Mart surveillance tape - from Naegle. Didn't we discuss this recently? I think Naegle said something along the lines of they didn't think it was necessary. I'm too tired to go back and look!

And me three! I don't believe the golfer's case is related to Steven either.

Steven's father was very definite about having tracked down the surveillance tapes: " ...we stopped in Mesquite, Nev., and St. George, to track down other surveillance tapes and examine my son’s apartment together with police — and to talk with news reporters..." (LINK)

That's why I'm curious; Naegle may have brushed it off (I can't find anything to that effect), but there's an indication it was done.

Re the K-Mart tapes....Naegle did respond once that all we would see is him shopping....although later I think she gave in that the tapes might be helpful.

I always wanted to see the tapes so that we could see every little detail that was out there.

What did he do while in Kmart? Use a basket? Look at
electronics? Buy a phone...maybe paying cash? Pick up meds? Look at camping items? Buy the dark item that he was carrying in SCA? How long was he there? Did he make two trips to K-mart? One with the receipt for the Christmas gifts....maybe one where he paid cash. OR... Did he ask the cashier to break out the items and he would charge a few and pay cash for others?
And most of all....was he with anyone?

I know these things are a stretch..... In cases like Stevens, it's all in the details....

Nothing's a stretch, and facts do matter. Who went through the line before or after him? Who went through another line about the same time?

I think the problem was the delay, and lack of "excitement" added to the case.

We don't know when the St George police were originally called, but I'd have done so immediately (before I drove to Henderson) -- and I'd also have begged the Henderson PD to break into the car themselves, and go through it. THAT would have given an immediate heads-up about the receipts in the car....and LE could have checked immediately with the Mesquite gas station and the St George K-Mart.

By the time the family checked for those Mesquite and St George security tapes on Dec 24th, twelve days had elapsed from those dates of purchase.

Fairy1 told us that even the Feds don't require casinos to keep their tapes more than 7 days.

I just added two "events" (non-events, actually) to the Dec 12th timeline: I'm questioning why it took three hours for him to buy gas and then drive to K-Mart in St George......and then why it took another two hours for him to arrive home after the K-Mart purchase.

Nothing, I guess. There's "no news" anymore. The only way they could create news, would be to convince LE to release some evidence (IF there's evidence!)

With the other two high profile cases in Utah ( Susan & Ethan ) unless they do something to keep him on the radar, Steven is going to fall off of it. I have read other websites of adults that are missing and some are continuously doing events to keep their loved one in the news. To keep public awareness of them. In Steven's case nothing is happening. He is going to be forgotten except by a few.

I understand the Koechers' feelings. They've been trying to get honest attention without creating a circus. Steven disappeared right at the time the Powell media circus got into full swing here, and frankly, lots of it was silly and disgusting.

Steven's case never had much of a chance locally. For one thing, he walked away on his own...to something. Powell's female, a mother, and didn't walk away.

Maybe we can brainstorm something, and suggest it to the family? It's time this one got some national attention. Maybe he CAN walk home?

Plus that "another" search of another West Desert area.

The remains in Idaho Falls were in an area that had been searched ... but were just far enough uphill, off a road. If Susan's out in the west desert, she couldn't be far off a road. Josh drove a minivan and then a rental car; neither were 4WD.

Well, I continue to go by the IHOP and homeless camp on a regular basis.

I really wonder what, if anything, the PI has come up with. We did that search on a "tip." Was it credible?

On questions about hours before and after visit to K-Mart, before arriving and leaving his rental room at 10:28 (!), (in context of noon in Henderson, 9:28 (!)), next question is what Steven could possibly be doing in Vegas at an early hour when GW called just before 8 am. SK is already in Vegas.

Two hour drive or so to Vegas? That's up at 5:30am at latest to drive to Vegas on a Sunday morning, if he had returned to his room. No, his room was straightened up. He did that (like being careful to make the bed) before 6am before driving off to Vegas, when his room was normally messy? And that's assuming best case that he had just arrived or was nearing Vegas when GW called.

The odds are that he was already in Vegas when GW called, and that he had done the driving the night before.

Yet he had no change of clothes, didn't bring his cell phone charger, gave no indication he wouldn't be back in St. George Sunday night other than saying he wouldn't be at a church basketball game Wednesday evening, which could be true whether he was in St. George or not.

So other than not bringing clothes and cell phone charger, all other indications are that he was not staying in St. George, at least temporarily, for some reason.

Did he have a car charger for cell phone? No clothes were found in car, but maybe that was what was under his arm or someplace else in Vegas where he had gone prior to 8am?

But didn't take his coat(s), blanket(s), and shaving kit when he left the car.

Always a gotcha no matter what, with only possible explanation being something along lines of fooling people of his real intention, which is explanation of last resort.

Something that makes sense of this will really be amazing.

I saw a "Zirkle" arrest in our county today...but it's not JRZ.

With luck maybe this Zirkle is related to JRZ, and can be questioned about where JRZ is. It would be nice to really clear him of any involvment in SK's disappearance.

This is quite humbling to consider the fact that all our hard work may be worthless. Then I remind myself that it was a WSer who created the timeline, which no doubt has been helpful to the PI and family. I remind myself that a handful of local Wsers volunteered for the search, and that more than likely we would do it again if asked.

Why isn’t there any sort of update on WS or Facebook? A statement from the PI or family would be greatly appreciated.

I’m beginning to wonder if the PI has asked the family, and others not to make any statements. Which is understandable, yet it would sure be nice to know this.

Was this about GW? If so, it sounded to me like he was trying to keep an argument from breaking out. The family is protective of GW, and the PI works for the family.

I know many here suspect GW, but unless there's some kind of super-secret operation underway, I think the family's support of GW says that he's told everything he knows to the satisfaction of all.

I thought LE already cleared Z (?). The only people looking for him, IMO, are the landlords who want their back rent and toaster returned -- and that's a civil warrant, meaning he'd have to be detained for another reason before he was brought in.

I doubt anyone else noticed the same-name arrest, being that it was here (about 300 miles north of St George). I'd look for "our" Z in the Vegas area, where he said he had relatives.

Wow , Chastised. You both handled it better than I would have. I would have told him to shove it. I am starting to think this family wants to live in their own little bubble. If they do not appreciate us keeping this thread going here, and without us faithfuls, it would be history. Steven has pretty much fallen off the radar for the news sites. Other forums and even the facebook, have dwindled to nothing. When we do get input it is usually to put us in our place and tell us how it is going to be. Maybe we are just spinning our wheels in one spot and it has become futile. jmo
