L....I keep two windows open when reading about Steven....WS and the timeline.

After a while, you get to feeling like you are in the car...and wondering why he did certain things. If he was leaving that car...as in
dumping it...he would have left the keys, the cell phone, the wallet with
the driver's license.

I think he had every intention of returning to the car, his family and friends and to his life in St. George.

Something happened to him. I don't think he did anything to himself.

I do the same thing: timeline, WS, and one more: a news search window.

The car-dump could go either way (to me): maybe he hadn't decided what he was going to do, and wanted a means of escape and communication? Everything he took, is stuff you normally pick up when you leave a car.

IF the keys had been found inside the car, that would have been a Tehan-level clue of purposeness. "I won't be needing this."

Then again, there's those Christmas presents he never took inside the house and left in the car. That's kind of a signal that he was thinking of other people, before he left.

Darn this case. Darn you Steven! I hope you know, Steven, that the paddle-your-butt line starts behind me. :banghead:

Some things. . .

First, I'm not volunteering but somebody should see about getting Steven's profile put on Wikipedia. They do have a category for Disappeared People on there. Might raise the profile of the case.

Second, for all you conspiracy theorists. . .the person on Wikipedia with the last name Koecher is a KGB spy. And he is still alive. . .(cue Twilight Zone music now)

Third, does it bother anyone that there has been no one from Overton who has come forward to say they met Steven on the day he was there. . .at least according to cellphone records. If he was down there to pass out flyers, I think we would have heard about it by now. If he was down there for an interview, I think we'd know that by now as well. If he was down there having a legitimate meeting with someone, that someone surely would have come forward by now. Instead, we got nothing. It's like he just went down there and came back for no reason. But, I don't believe that. Just seems to me if it was something "legitimate", somebody would have come forward. But no one has. . .you can read into it what you like.

Fourth, it also seems to me, and this goes with the third point, that the concern should be more about who stopped calling him after he disappeared and not so much who was calling him before he disappeared.

December 10 - 11 - 12 - 13, 2009.....links to the various places (that we know) Steven visited or passed through to see friends, get gas or snacks, or whatever....

There is no special reason for the links other than to become oriented to the areas of Utah or Nevada that
might educate some of us who are from other parts of the country.

The maps on the timeline (where the car was parked, the house he rented at, the Ruby Valley trip, the Jan 8th tips) will provide a bit of context, too.

We really don't know if he was "in" Overton. His cell phone hit on an Overton tower some time on Dec 12th. Since there is cell phone service along I-15 in that area, and I don't see any towers except the South Mesquite and Overton towers.....it's hard to tell where he was.
He could have gone further south, and returned in the late afternoon.

The Overton tower serves a fairly large area; if he did get off the freeway, he could have stopped at several small towns in that area.

If he *did* stop to see someone, they might not even know he was missing.

Remember the PI, who found people in Overlook Village who didn't know Steven went missing there? Or the Anthem resident who pointed out the homeless camp, but didn't know anyone was missing until he heard about the search on the news?

Who stopped calling him? Now THAT is a brilliant question.

Fast Eddy just mentioned Overton. Was Steven into museums? Thanks to Lato's links I clicked on Overton and the first thing I saw was the,Overton, Nevada's Lost City Museum,

Steven was into his own family history, which would have been one purpose of visiting the temple on Dec 9th (sealing/baptisms for the dead). If we knew the exactly title of the "southern Utah settlers" book he checked out of the St George library, we might find a link to Overton.

I tend to think he was just driving past on the freeway....and that he went on to Vegas. You know how it seems he knew where he was going on Dec 13th? What if he'd have been there on Dec 12th?

BBM

I agree! I wonder if anyone is still keeping track???

That might be helpful. Personally, I can't think of a lot of reasons to go to Overton. Possibly to visit the Valley of Fire.

This is what I'm inclined to believe.

No need to, now.

Once it was recognized that he was missing, everyone he had called (or who'd called him) was contacted and informed of the situation.

On the subject of the Valley of Fire.....there is a $10 entrance fee.

OTOH....

The admission to the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort, which is located in downtown Las Vegas, is $1. It's possible Steven had some interest in its history. I see they hold a December Pioneer Christmas event. I'll see if I can find out the date or dates of that for 2009.

Did Steven check out the "southern Utah settlers" book in May or in December? I think it matters. Do we know?

I'll ask Naegle if the details of his library check-outs are available.

Note:
She didn't know the answers to all the detailed financial questions.

So if he went to Vegas for that, why would he go back the next day?
Even though this is a Nevada state park, it's LDS-related so is closed on Sundays.

Maybe he met someone on Saturday who convinced him to return on Sunday.

I should have read the details at the link
"On Saturday, December 12, from 5:30 p.m. through 7:30 p.m. the park will be hosting its third annual Pioneer Christmas celebration."

IOW, since he bought gas in Mesquite at 4:04pm PST, it'd be kinda hard for him to rush back to Vegas for that....and then rush back to St George in time to buy Christmas cookies at K-Mart at 6:58pm PST.
