Doesn't seem to be any update about the body that was found at Siegal Suites...

I know; the reports sounded like it shouldn't take long. The remains belonged to a tenant, and once they confirmed ID and notified the family, the ID would be released. ???

That's what it said -- wonder if they're having trouble locating next of kin? Or if the person was living under an assumed name?

These Siegal Suite properties are largely occupied by transient folks. It may take them a little longer to find her kin than we would expect.

In any case, they're saying it was most likely a suicide.

Transients, to me, are the travelling homeless; not the employed who like a place to stay for a week or two (with a kitchen!) while working in a city.

So Siegel Suites are much different than the suites we stayed in, a few years ago, out on Boulder Highway -- and Siegel Suites caters to the homeless and drug users?

Around here, the meth has always been found in a Marriott-owned property.

"Rolf Koecher, along with 30 other family members and friends of Steven, will gather in Las Vegas Friday afternoon and then split up to ride bus lines and visit the region’s homeless shelters."

I think visiting the Salvation Army, that homeless camp on Boulder Highway, and the NON-organized areas needs to be done, too.

Interesting that there's been some pretty-fresh "sightings". Sure would have been nice to know where.

OMG moment: "The unemployed man reportedly told friends he was traveling to Henderson in a bid to find a job."

He DID? Until right now, everything I'd always read was that no one knew why he went there.

“Why not ride the buses and look for a live Steven?” Rolf Koecher said. “And this time, let’s use his family members, friends and people who really knew him and have the best chance of recognizing him” regardless of any changes in appearance he might have undergone?

While tipsters have offered few specifics about possible sightings of Steven in the Henderson-Las Vegas area, the claims have been persistent. Some of the reports are just “weeks old,” the missing man’s father says.

I just hope they are successful. I long ago decided that we are the internet people and will be the last to know the plans for a search and the results of their search. While I think we could be of help, I also understand their
reluctance.

So, I will be praying for their success on Friday.

OMG is right. I had to read it twice.

Wowee! I would LOVE to know when it was discovered he had told friends he was going to Henderson to find a job. That's new.

We are the internet people, but we are very caring people, and many people here, have put in many hours to help find Steven. There are many who read what is said here, and it sparks a idea for friends, family, and professionals. i know we could help, and many of us want to, but I am sure there are reasons they do not want our help. I also will be praying they get some answers.

Transient, by definition, means passing through. Doesn't really matter why or for how long. My point was that there probably aren't a lot of long-term tenants in a place like this.

So Siegel Suites are much different than the suites we stayed in, a few years ago, out on Boulder Highway -- and Siegel Suites caters to the homeless and drug users?

Well, I don't know where you stayed on Boulder Highway, so I can't comment there. Also, not sure where you got "homeless," "drug users" and "meth" from my post. :waitasec:

In any case, based on what I've seen when driving by this place, I wouldn't get my dog a room there - kitchen or not!

It just sounded like "a place like that"....rather than just "a place", I guess. ;)

In Utah, ALL tourists pay a "transient room tax", whether you're in a downtown hotel or suburban motel. We stayed at Siena Suites years ago, and it was fine for two nights -- but it does look like it's gone downhill.

Vegas is a hard place to stay in, if you don't want to be at a casino.

I may have just missed this previously, but I only remember a few potential sightings of Steven. Specifically, the IHOP guy and the bus line on the other side of town...maybe there were more than that and I was just unaware? But regardless I did not know these sightings were in anyway "persistent". Hmm....

Yeah, I'd like to know when that info came out. As well as the dates of those recent sightings.
Maybe they developed more information on the dental school tip (ie, more information than "It had to be Steven because he was so polite"). That one came in, in the first week of April (we know that, because DK talked about it at the April 16th search).

ETA:
Just noticed that the article doesn't even mention the April search and all of the volunteers (including several WSers, who searched out of the good of their hearts, not knowing the family or Steven).

It depends what the definition of "weeks old" is. The dental school tip came in around mid April (9 weeks ago). But "persistent"?

The tips WE know about (IHOP, the bus) were posted publicly on news sites. We've never been privy to anything else investigative. We're just the internet people. ;)

I didn't really mean to sound snobby about it, but it's not a great area. Really.

This place is very close to the IHOP and I've been by there many times. Obviously, I'm looking for Steven when in the area, so I really try to get a good look at people. And there are a lot of people walking around, riding bikes, etc. Let's just say, there are a lot of characters milling around.

I am happy to report there are quite a few newer properties around town where you could stay - outside of the casinos. Built for extended stays and equipped with kitchens. In MUCH better areas of town!

How much could a homeless person change their look? Lose weight, grow their hair and beard, obviously....but outside of that, would they have the means?

Heh. We bring our own, now ;)

It's probably the one place we don't have to go, since they established their own electronics there.....and obviously, Fremont Street Experience has been completed for so long, it's old and fuzzy.

I'm trying really hard not to take the "family, friends and people who really knew him" comment too personally. Tis true, I don't "know" Steven. However, I look for him every day in my travels. Every day. It's just habit for me now. And I figure, who knows, if I don't find Steven, maybe I'll come across another missing soul someone is looking for.

That said, just this morning on my way to work I saw a young man who had some Steven characteristics. Same coloring, same type of clothing, etc. But his hair was really long. And once again, I thought to myself, what if I do see Steven? Will I recognize him? How many ways might he have changed over these past several months? Does he have long hair now? A beard? A deep tan from being in the sun? Is he wearing the same type of clothes or has he changed his style along with his lifestyle?

I don't know. And I don't know for certain his own mother would recognize him.

This is a big city and there are a lot of buses. I hope they have an army for this search. I hope they have some clues as to where to look.

If there have been more recent possible sightings, why haven't they said so? Do they NOT want help? I'm here, they know that. And they know I'm ready and willing.

I don't get it. But I'm NOT giving up and no one can make me. SO THERE!
