GUILTY NV - Suellen, 31, & Lexis Roberts, 12, Las Vegas, 4 Sept 2010

I just got caught up with the thread again. I am so sorry to find out this was the outcome. I followed the case daily from the start but there never seemed to be much news coverage. How did this poor child & her mother fall through the cracks? We weren't able to find out the details about Sanders record but apparently LE knew since that info was released early on.

Like many of you, I had a bad feeling about this one from the start. IMO, the mother has also been deceased for some time. I can't help but wonder if there had been more publicity for Lexie, could she have been saved before they reached Louisiana?

Thanks to all for following up on the case & providing the news links.

I've been thinking about Suellen & Lexis all night. Another child lost to a predator (my assumption). It breaks my heart. My guess would be Suellen is deceased and her body most likely left in the Arizona dessert. Most likely she has not been found yet.

What really upsets me is going back to read this article.

http://www.mynews3.com/story.php?id=27776&n=5037

Police say the two were accompanied by Thomas Steven Sanders. Police confirmed for us he does have a prior record but they would not disclose the details.

Police say with each day that passes there is more cause for concern.

“We’re obviously on heightened alert and concern because of the 12 year old girl being present,” Gililand explains.

Why didn't they release any details on Sanders' record? If they had, maybe the media would have followed it more closely. Instead, the story got little attention. I wonder if part of the problem was that they were from Nevada and went missing in Arizona?

Poor Lexis & Suellen. Condolences to their family with my prayers.

That was my thought Mandy; Did the multi-jurisdiction facet of this case contribute to Sanders' success in eluding LE? Clearly Suellen's Mother voiced her concerns from the get-go. This case just makes me so sad.

Oh but I promise you if the grandma would have reported that Saunders was carrying marijuana across state lines you would have seen twenty local, state, and federal LE agency's on the case ASAP, and Sanders caught before he harmed the girl. Sadly kidnapping, rape, and murder of a twelve year girl is not as big of a deal and priority to law enforcement :frown:!!!!!

From what I understand Sanders had ties to property approx 18 mile N or Williams, which is where the last ping was of Suellens phone. I believe she would die protecting her daughter and probably has. The sheriffs office would not search the property, not sure why. Sanders listed address in LA is only 146 miles from where Lexis body was found, in Harrisonburg, LA. The still are not listing him as a suspect, just a missing person along with Suellen. The family is so distraught that they have been unable to talk with the news channels here in Las Vegas and without some to speak to guess they don't have much of a story. The Police and FBI must suspect him unless they are stupid. Do they have to have physical evidence to issue a warrant. I don't understand any of this. Las Vegas didn't even have them listed as missing since AZ said they were spotted. Someone is not doing there job and a 12 yr old girl had to pay for it. What can I do to get some justice for her. From loving step-grandmother

This is a truly distressing case. As a former single mom myself, I feel a tremendous amount of empathy for this family. My guess is that police are not officially posting wanted signs for Sanders because they know exactly where he is and they are watching his every move, waiting for him to make a mistake. Once he has given them what they need, the Wanted signs will be posted and he will be hauled off to the jail where he belongs.

Or maybe I'm just feeling hopeful because they found Toni's killer so quickly....

Welcome debzeg23:

I am assuming you are Lexi's step grandmother?
I am glad you are speaking out for her and for Suellen.

I think LE may have chosen to let AZ go ahead with the search since they were last seen in that state.
It does help when family is very involved and active with news media and police. But who knows how we would react if it was our family member who went missing.

With the FBI on the case now, that will be very helpful.

Debzeg23 ... welcome to WS. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I can understand the family being far too devastated to speak to the media. Surely LE considers Sanders a suspect. In the early press releases, it was already mentioned he had a record.

I'm still new to WS & not from that part of the country so I don't know exactly what to do. But I'm sure we'll all do whatever we can to help find justice for Lexis & Suellen.

I will try emailing some of the journalists who posted stories about them when they first went missing. Most articles have a contact email address listed. Maybe one of them would be interested in pursuing the story.

I live a few miles from Harrisonburg, LA, where Lexis' remains were found. Someone would have to know that area to be able to dispose of a body there. It is in the hills--lots of trees. It isn't a place you just drive by. You have to be hunting or something like this. If it was Sanders--he could have had relatives there. Tonight on our local news, they had cadivor (?) dogs up there and crime lab, FBI from as far as Virginia look for more evidence. This is so SAD! In my opinion--Sanders is the one, and he most probably killed Suellen and disposed of her body between AZ and LA! My heart goes out to the family.

If anyone is interested go to www.knoe.com, www.thenewsstar.com this is the local tv station and newspaper. Below is from Nov. 1st tv news:

CATAHOULA PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News)--Federal and local investigators went to great lengths in Catahoula Parish on Monday to find new evidence tied to the death of the 12 year old Las Vegas girl whose remains were found there last month. And they're also looking for any clues that may lead them to the man and woman last seen with Lexis Roberts. KNOE 8's Meg Smith takes us on an exclusive tour of their search efforts.

The FBI, U.S. Marshals, and several other agencies combed the woods more than ten hours Monday. They're expanding their search for evidence within a two mile radius where 12 year old Lexis Kaye Roberts body was found October 8th.

Welcome and TY Notapi. I'm so glad you know the area.

Keep all of us informed if you can.

We have to keep this board going so we can find the mom.

Glad NG was inquiring!

You are welcome. There may be more in the newspaper tomorrow or days to come. Hope Nancy Grace gets on the case--She will beat it up and down and inside out--until Suellen is found. And the sorry person that did this. I am wondering if he had relatives in the Harrisonburg area! Someone said they used maps.google.com for Harrisonburg--you can zoom in on the area on the satallite and see how much hill and forrest area is is.

This is so sad!! I have checked the national sex registry and he is not listed on it.
