How could a serial killer who worked at a moving company afford a cabin in Tahoe? Did he continue working at the moving company after the disappearance of Clifford? Or did he also quit? Is it possible they were supplementing their lifestyle with drug dealing?

Miss Muffet, discussing serial killers Leonard Lake and Charles Ng's horrific atrocities is beyond everyone's comfort zone..

<snipped from link & BBM for Focus>

Neighbors learned that the second Mrs. Lake had been fired from her job as a teacher's aid at the Anderson Valley High School in Boonville. She allegedly taught kids how to make explosives. She told a General Sessions Court that she thought the knowledge would come in handy in case the kids wanted to blow up tree stumps for land-clearing in the farmland. A judge believed her.

In 1982 federal agents swooped down on the ranch and arrested Lake for firearms violations. Freed on $6,000 bail, he assumed the name of Charley Gunner. He and his wife retreated to a remote ranch in Wilseyville, Calaveras County, deep in the Sierra Nevada. The cabin had been purchased by her parents as a future retirement home. Lake had other plans. He transformed it into a house of horrors.

Thank you for the graphic item warning, SeekingSusan! I was able to completely skip over the post. Having the option to return later to read it when my mind is prepared is much better than a sudden unexpected shock. I appreciate your doing that for us.

ETA: Sorry - this was in response to Miss Muffet's post #1540

You are right - I didn't have that on top of the lists at the very beginning - I added that disclaimer later. I have alerted detectives to what I was doing already, in an effort to be more helpful to them.

I have been in contact with both detectives about the list for awhile. It doesn't really matter because they are only using the list to have a quick reference to find the post with the link to the actual information. The list includes info for them to do a quick reference (ie: dentals avail) so they find the post, access the link provided, look at the dentals that have been uploaded and compare with this missing person's own teeth. It also provides them with one place to keep all of the suspects (researched and not yet done) in one place, in alphabetical order.

It's all good - no worries. :)

I assure you they are not Ruling Out people based purely upon the information contained in the list I have made for them. I can only assume that they felt the remains of Robinson would have been exposed to the elements for too long to match their John Doe, but that's just my best guess. We do not know what research had been done by LEO over the past 23 years as well.

You are welcome. (I am not SeekingSusan though. lol) Actually, I was referencing your discussion so it probably won't be a big shock for you.

Does anyone know of legitimate missing person's sites other than:

Namus
doenetwork
Charley Project?

Maybe we need to move on to individual state and local LE departments. I have noticed some of their missing are on Namus and others are not.

There are many missing sites, but the 3 listed are the most complete I think.

Since both killers were inactive after 1985...our victim couldn't be part of their spree. They are fairly certain he was murdered no earlier than 1990.

I think that is a great idea! How about we start on the western half of the US (just for proximity)? We could just declare which state we are taking on the thread, and then others could pick a different state (although it never hurts to have 2 or 3 people looking at the same info).

I am starting with Utah.

I've gone over a lot already in Colorado and Oklahoma so I will continue there.

I have also been looking at RSO absconders and Most Wanted on LE sites. They are people who won't be listed as missing anywhere, but could end up being a victim. I will keep a running list of my own here for later if I come across any that fit the criteria. They won't be as easy to rule out so we probably shouldn't add them to the Alpha list now.

There is also the North American Missing Persons Network (NAMPN).

http://www.nampn.org/index.html

But their primary focus is on recent cases, and runaway teens.

They have older cases and missing adult cases as well, but most of their older cases and missing adults are people who can also be found in DoeNetwork, Charley, and/or NamUs.

Also, like DoeNetwork and Charley Project, they don't have an effective method of querying cases based on specific parameters.

PriorityinMotion, I know Gammalgard "went missing" in October 1992 but early on in this post the detectives said we shouldn't exclude possible matches based on the missing date being later than the date the UID was found because for various reasons, and sometimes purposely, people's missing dates can be falsely reported. :)

Thanks, Equestrianista!--and that's a good point to remember. Actually, the only reason I thought he should be ruled out was because I went on to read the summary below the description. He went missing in Oct 1992, but he was also "last seen" in Oct 1992 (if you read the description in Charley Project). So if he was seen, those couldn't have been his remains in March 1992. That's one reason it's so pokey going thru these names--some are reported missing long after they've last been seen; others are reported missing the same month as last seen.

But, as it turns out, he was ruled out anyway, I think b/c of dentals. Anyway...we'll keep plugging away. :) (And I'm still pinching myself that you actually found the printed design. Post of the month, hah--try post of the year!)

Okay, back from my wimpy wittle workout; it's been way too long. Oh my, use it or lose it peeps.

On to the Charley Project, "Western States." CA, NV, and OR are done; starting NM now.

As a DBA / Application Developer would I be of any assistance providing a central database / webpage list view where names can be pre-loaded and marked when ruled out? Not sure how you all are able to reference a current list? Anyone have thoughts off an app that would help make this easier. I could build something generally quick.

This is what I have been doing on the list all along as a help for the detectives to quickly run through. The assumption being that the person didn't die until 1990 - 1991ish, since that is how long the remains have been reported to be there. For instance, if the last time the 20 y/o person was seen in 1985 I have added 5-6 years to the age at the time of disappearance on the list and on the alpha list he is listed as "25ish". The detectives can then find out the actual details on the original post when they go to look up the info.

And thanks for this; I'll do it this way from here on out. :)

Mmarty, just checking...I have for the UID's age range a DOB from 1942 to 1957; is that roughly the right range?

(Or is it a rule-out more because evidence hints that he met his death pretty soon after he disappeared in 1982)?

Based on the evidence in that case it is believed the victims died during the commission of that crime (theory). There is no way that our victim would be "preserved" for that long.
