I still think the homeless community could be instrumental in finding him. If he's alive, someone's feeding him. Typically they trust very few people, surely there are a few outreach people...on their short list.

I agee. The homeless community would know and be able to help find him.

I wonder if the police have checked transient motels, crack houses, tent cities for him

Does anyone remember the movie Without A Trace with Kate Nelligan?

I hope this ends like that with a police escort home

And if it is homeless people that are feeding him, there's a good chance they aren't even aware he's missing. I'm grasping for straws here, but could he have been taken in by a homeless camp existing on the fringe somewhere? It's not like Avonte can tell them he's missing, and they wouldn't have any way of knowing.:please:

Police Vow 'No Stone Left Unturned'
NYPD Conducts an Expansive Search for Autistic Boy Missing for Two Weeks

There are stacks of notebooks, often lists of place names with phrases like "DOUBLE CHECK" and "NO STONE LEFT UNTURNED" scribbled on them. The NYPD has split the area around the school into 11 zones, assigning officers to each with instructions for searching.

"We're basically working our way backwards, back out from the school itself," Dennis DeQuatro, the deputy chief of the Patrol Borough Bronx, one of many officers called in from around to city to help with the search.

From the link above:
"Police have obtained more than 100 clips of video surveillance from surrounding areas; no others show Avonte."

That doesn't sound good :(

How can that be?

Watched the video of him running out the door & across the street. He just ran wildly out into the street, didn't look for passing cars. Wonder if he knew what he'd encounter across the street - had he come to school from that direction? He could probably run a mile before becoming winded - but I don't think he did. If he really does have a mind of a 7 year old, he would've seen something of interest & stopped to investigate. Or maybe not. The freedom to just run was probably something he'd never had. I just think he's closest to the most fascinating thing he encountered early on.

RSBM: Has anyone seen what type of communication he does use? He has to have some way to make his most basic needs known; sign, gesture, writing, noise, etc.. something!

It is baffling that he has not been found yet. He would be very memorable if he was in a public place or a park. I am very afraid that he is in deep water somewhere.

It seems he ran straight towards Gantry Park, where surveillance video recorded him skipping in the park.

The family feels that he hasn't been seen because someone has taken him inside and is keeping him there.

I was going to ask if that was confirmed.Thank You.This is where I think they need to bring tracking dogs again and where I feel they need to bring cadaver dogs and the area on the sreet they tracked his scent too.I'm praying he is ok still in that area.I pray he is ok somewhere.

I would also really like to know how he does communicate. I would think an autistic child at his level, if taken in by strangers in a strange location would not be handling it that well. Nothing familiar, a complete break from routine with strange sites and sounds.

This is why I have trouble with the idea of some homeless population caring for him.

I assume divers have been searching the East River? I don't know much about NYC geography. Is it very deep?

From Wikipedia:East River - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Due to heavy pollution, the East River is dangerous to people who fall in or attempt to swim in it, although as of mid-2007 the water was cleaner than it had been in decades. Anyone in the channel would find there are few places from which to climb out. According to the marine sciences section of the city Department of Environmental Protection, the channel is swift, with water moving as fast as four knots (just as it does in the Hudson River on the other side of Manhattan). That speed can push casual swimmers out to sea."

Info on transportation to and from the park.

No official info on depth of the river although I found individuals saying it was as deep as 30-100 feet deep.

Has anyone heard anything? How have the searches gone. Have they found out anything or found Avonte?

Really? This is the first I've heard of this surveillance video! Where does he go from there I wonder? There must be other cameras. Awww that breaks my heart, Avonte just skipping around being a happy kid.
