I think he can go to any island in the carebean if he wanted to on those documents islands like Curacao are "discrete" and I don't mean that in a good way. If you have money you can buy your own private police escort there.

Can you explain to me what is the deal exactly about this case and what information is asked from the public, I read some about it but I thought the kids where found alive and the body of the mother was also recovered and I read the husband had been arrested.

Also does this person have a dual nationality? Like is he a US citizen and a Dutch citizen because they allow dual nationality or two nationalities in the Netherlands but I am not sure if the US allows that also, I know Canada does.

If he still has a Dutch citizenship also and born in the Netherlands it isn't far fetched or hard to travel from the carebean islands to the Netherlands since a couple of those islands wherecontrolled by the Netherlands not so long ago.

The Netherlands supports some of these islands financially so they still have descent polictical connections and influence over there.

The Dutch also won't extradite people to the US easily, you'd have to be an al qaida terrorist, the Dutch wouldn't allow some major Dutch cyber criminals to be extradited to the States for example.

The husband has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, Jennifer Renz Ramsaran. The children had been with their father since their mother disappeared in December 2012. Now father has been arrested, they are with other family. Safe.

But father has been given a low bail. If he gets the money, we do not know if he could be released from jail and take his children back. That would be bad news, in my opinion.

ETA: He is a US citizen now. I don't know if he is allowed to have dual nationality. He was a Nederlands citizen until age 12, I think.

They more I read about enhanced licenses is that it will get you to the us faster, but would they still be used for identification for other countries?

They can be used the same as a passport. We have cruised and gone to Canada with ours. We need them when exiting the ship to go to any port of call be it Aruba, curaçao, crand cayman, Belize, st Martin , Cozumel. They look at it as a passport so long as you are sailing in or driving (I.e. Canada). Kids don't need them really....they can use a birth certificate and the parents ID. I don't know what proof he would need that he is the sole guardian though.

Thank you for the explanation I appreciate it.

I would assume a main suspect of such a crime can't just get his children back untill he is either cleared or have served his time and gets out.

It's insane a main suspect in a murder case can just wait for his trail at the comforts of his own home.

On top of that he is suspected of killing the mother of their children so I would also assume that the authorities understand the risk this man poses for his own family.

So we're basically making an assessment of his flight risk?

Do drivers licenses get flagged that your awaiting trial or a suspect in a murder- anything like that? I find it really naive that the defense attorney would say he doesn't have a passport only an enhanced license.... The enhanced license can get him in Canada too. Not too far a drive. He may not beable to fly into another country with it but he has other options having the enhance license. I also find it naive that he thinks a ankle bracelet would keep him in line. Sickens me considering what happened here a couple months ago. A young girl raped and her mother murdered by a sexual predator with an ankle bracelet that was removed. Save the ankle bracelets for thieves; murderers and rapists need be behind bars! :moo:

ETA surely GR knows about this recent murder case because it was all over the news. Of course he volunteered to wear an ankle bracelet. He knows what little good they are.

'Electronic bracelet monitors are no deterrent to those that are determined to commit other violent crimes'.. Remy Ramsaran, obviously has no empathy for others or human emotions, and is a danger to society, imo... Bet, if Remy Ramsaran was neighbors with the Judge's family his Bail/Bond would would have been appropriate. Shame on him... This less than Honorable
Judge needs to be put out to pasture, imo...

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A New York woman who'd just seen her 10-year-old daughter raped during a carjacking was stabbed to death during a struggle that allowed the child to escape and get help, a prosecutor said Wednesday.

Authorities said Renz had hours earlier removed and quickly reassembled an electronic bracelet so monitors didn't immediately realize he'd taken it off. He was ordered to wear the device as a condition for being released from jail after his arrest in January on federal child *advertiser censored* charges.

the thing with the ankle bracelets is that someone has to be sitting behind a computer screen the entire time to track the person's movements. i used to work with juveniles who wore them. i could see when they left their front door and went outside, and the paths they took to wherever they went.

and the next day, i would have to sign back on to check their previous movement, some 16 hours later.

i would doubt the CCSD has the manpower to designate one person to monitor that tracking, but maybe they do.

also, i'm thinking that maybe him not having contact with his kids might be a condition/stipulation of his bail.

From what I know they have a silent alarm so if the ankle bracelet gets out of range from a programmed number of square feet within the property yard the silent alarm on your device goes off that way there doesn't have to be someone behind a screen 24/7 they just need to carry a device so they get notified when the alarm goes off.

The convict or suspect will have a limited time in which they are allowed leave their property to do groceries for example and in that time they would be tracked especially.

I think they could be used for that purpose but I don't know whether it is accepted in every country as a form of identification.

"They provide travelers with a low-cost, convenient alternative for entering the United States from Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean through a land or sea port of entry, in addition to serving as a permit to drive."

"The Department has worked with Canadian provincial and federal officials to pursue enhanced drivers licenses as an alternative to the Canadian passport. Four Canadian provinces (British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec) are issuing EDLs to Canadian citizens. Canadian citizens can present an EDL when entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, or the Caribbean through a land or sea port of entry. "

Thanks for posting the entire article for those who don't have a subscription. (I hope when the mods snip due to the 10% rule that they leave the bottom part rather than the top).

So...new information & highlights from this article:

1) GR went willingly to the Sheriff's office on Friday (after working out at the Y earlier that morning) for questioning in discrepancies in the case.

2) Scheduled to appear in Town of New Berlin court for felony hearing at 1 p.m. on Thursday. Prosecution must prove reasonable cause for arrest - will be challenged, of course by defense.

3) "Those closest to Jennifer Ramsaran maintained a steadfast and vocal conviction as to her character and devotion as a mother"

http://www.evesun.com/news/stories/2013-05-20/17345/He-has-every-reason-to-run/

4) D.A. McBride: <modsnip>

5) Defense attorney Chamberlain: <modsnip>

6) McBride: GR told police he had been working on his computer that day, Dec. 11, DA says that's false.

<modnsip>

7) Ramsaran had every motive to kill his wife as he stood to lose half of his assets.

8) Since the disappearance of his wife – Ramsaran has told people he intends to spend the rest of his life with his alleged girlfriend.

9) As of deadline, GR hasn't posted bail.

OK, redoing with paraphrasing instead of direct quotes for #4,5,6

4) District Attorney McBride argued that GR should not receive bail because of the violent crime of murdering his wife, because he faces a sentence of 25 years to life if convicted, and because, being born outside the US, he is a flight risk.

5) Defense Attorney Chamberlain argued that GR should receive bail because he has been cooperative with police, he does not have a passport (although he does have an enhanced drivers license), he has steady employment with IBM, he owns a house, and he needs to be able to care for his 3 children.

6) DA McBride laid out some of rationale for arrest: GR lied about alibi, GR last person to see victim alive, GR had motive: [ongoing affair, victim had an appointment with divorce lawyer and GR stood to lose half of assets], victim slept naked (suggesting she died at home?).

Especially if the intended victims of violent crimes would be the children in his own house or his in-laws in the house next door.

Well, here are some more media links, just in case we ever lose sight of Ganesh and need to know where we should publicize.

I can't wait until Abigail sees them. She will be so surprised. I don't think she speaks Dutch........but I bet she'll learn, just in case.

Yes, the U.S. does allow dual citizenship -- and I know lots of people who have it. GR could very easily have a Dutch passport if he did not give up his citizenship there.

Less than 3 hours drive from Norwich to Canadian border. Do NOT give this man bail!!!!:please:

I know lots of people who have dual citizenship also there are many countries that allow it but I'm not sure if I know any Americans who have dual citizenship.

Exactly my thoughts thats why I said the Dutch are not to keen on extraditing their own citizens especially when it is outside of Europe I only know of two of such cases off the top of my head where they extradited their own citizens to the States and they where both people suspected of (facilitating/planning) terrorist acts.

It worries me more that it seems he can get into Mexico and the Caribbean especially the former Dutch colonies and him being born in the Netherlands and maybe still having his citizenship in that country also.

I remember when my mom was trying to become a permanent US resident she had to agree to not have dual citizenship in a foreign country, this was back in the 90's, I don't know if this is still standard practice though.

Also for some security clearances you have to give up any dual citizenship's for a foreign country. I know that some tech jobs work with the government and require employees to pass certain security clearances.

*fingers crossed* that he may have had a security clearance or had to sign the same documentation as my mother giving up the dual citizenship if he even has it.

Do we know for a fact that he has dual citizenship?

Edited to add if he was born in the Netherlands, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_nationality_law#By_naturalisation
Since 1 April 2003, following an amendment to the Netherlands Nationality Act of 1985, Dutch subjects with dual nationality will lose their Dutch citizenship if they hold a foreign citizenship and reside outside the Kingdom of the Netherlands or the European Union for ten years.

So he probably doesnt have it by default.

Thank you for sharing the information,
he wouldn't have it by default according to the wikipedia article.
Even if the 10 year counted from when the law was applied april 2003 we're past that 10 year mark now.

Almost all government employees are required to give up their dual citizenship to the best of my knowledge.
