Dilione is the last person who saw Joseph Comunale alive.....how do they know that??

I think it is poor writing. I think they are alluding to both the victim and the Dillone being seen on camera together as the last time anyone beside the two defendants saw the victim alive.

Grand jury indicts Rackover in connection with Comunale’s murder

<snip> James Rackover, 25, has been formally charged with concealing a human corpse, tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution in last week’s stabbing death of 26-year-old Comunale, a popular and athletic member of the Stamford community.

The other suspect, Lawrence Dilione, 28, waived a court appearance and is expected to return Tuesday for a bail-related hearing, according to the New York District’s Attorney’s office.

No new charges have been filed...

“Joey was very active in Stamford where he touched hundreds of individuals whether at the hockey rink, softball field or socializing with too many of his friends to mention,” the obituary reads. “The world was a better place because of him.”

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Leo’s Church on Roxbury Road in Stamford. Calling hours are from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave. He will be buried at Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich.

Doesn't appear that Joey knew the three women prior to that eve:

<snip>

Comunale went with friends to New York City for a night out last Saturday. After his friends left, Comunale, who met Dilione and three women in a bar that night, accompanied them to a party at Rackover’s apartment early Sunday morning, police said.

He prob was interested in one of the women he met that night who was headed to Rackover's

I've seen it reported both ways - that Joey knew the women and that he just met them.

Joey did go into the city with friends. I'm thinking the women were his friends, if only because LE was able to figure out what happened so quickly. The women knew where he last was.

I wish a reporter would clear that up and do it clearly. :)

You may be right, but there's also these as well as some statements made by his father that make me believe he did not know any of them prior to that eve:

<snip> Comunale, a 26-year-old Hofstra University graduate who lives in Stamford, Conn., had gone to a club in New York City with friends Saturday night. He was last seen entering the Grand Sutton building in Manhattan on Sunday morning with three men and three women he had just met that night, according to Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.

SATURDAY - NOV. 12
Joey Comunale travels from Stamford to New York City. He goes out to the Gilded Lily nightclub in Chelsea with at least one friend, investigators said.

EARLY SUNDAY MORNING - NOV. 13
Comunale tells his friend that he's going to attend a party at 418 East 59th Street,
which is located between First Avenue and Sutton Place near the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge.

He may have simply told the friend prior to leaving the club that he was headed to party "at bldg btw First & Sutton Near the Queensboro Br."

Then 911 call re suspicious dragging of duffel bag into trunk of vehicle near that bldg may have been quickly connected by NYPD/LE to missing person alert, as well as info friend provided (if accurate).

Yes same here - I am now leaning towards JC being in the city with a few friends from college and them leaving while he continued on with the wo suspects. Maybe he had interest in one of the women and she invited him to the party. He may have stepped on some toes if JR was interested and after he got back to the apartment anger ensued,

I have been reading every article online to catch up and I don't get JR referring to JC as "that kid" in the most recent one I read. JC was older than JR but I guess if he didn't know him he could have appeared much younger.

Why was he dragging a duffle bag suspiciously when we know the bellman's cart was used to transport the "luggage" from the fourth floor unit to the car?

The reporting on this thing is all over the place. Not surprising given the current state of "journalism" but definitely frustrating...

Yes. Strange too. LE releasing that he may have been dropped from a height, then the cart info, then the 'seen dragging' info, could he have been moved or dropped from place to place within the building, before his lifeless was taken to New Jersey, I wonder? The whole day passed before they loaded and left to bury him it seems. Then they weren't seen leaving the city until around 10 pm. LE may have a lot more information and more to come as things progress. I don''t think they were just moving out the body, and that there may have been other evidence that was being taken away as well that may have been incriminating, it seems possible. Like the bloody sheets left behind in the city was the least of it, in term of the prevailing concern of their efforts to cover their tracks and evidence. Maybe a stash of sex tapes, undeclared assets, drugs, guns, who knows?

CLARIFICATIONS

Many have raised questions today about who Comunale was out with the evening he was killed.

To attempt to answer these questions I've reviewed the first local news reports that Comunale was missing.

According to WABC's first report:

Stamford Police said that Joseph "Joey" Comunale, of Stamford, was reported missing by his father Monday morning.

He was last seen on the Upper East Side Sunday morning after he came into the city with several friends on Saturday night to attend a party held at The Grand Sutton at 418 E. 59th St. -- located between First Avenue and Sutton Place near the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge.

According to Stamford police, his friends left Sunday morning and Comunale stayed willingly behind.

DNAInfo's first report:
Joseph Comunale, of Stamford, came to the city Saturday night and spent the evening with two friends from New Jersey and three young women in a fourth-floor Sutton Place apartment on East 59th Street between First Avenue and the East River, but he never made it home, according to sources.

NY Post first report:

Comunale — a Hofstra University grad who works as a sales associate at Tri-Ed Ltd. — had been partying with friends and was visiting the son of a well-known jeweler who lives in the apartment building at the time, according to the sources.

WNBC has continuously updated the initial missing story:

Stamford police said on Wednesday that the man had gone to New York City with friends on Saturday night and separated from them at some point. Police in Connecticut have not yet contacted the friends, but are aiding the NYPD in its investigation.

Thanks. The reason I wanted to share the earliest reports from when it was a search for a missing person is because the details shared in the missing persons report were provided by Pat Comunale, the victim's father (same as the interview you shared). At that point the "news" had not turned their reporting into a game of telephone as they tend to do... :-)

Yes. The one thing that's clear is that much was done to obfuscate the crime scene and the sequence of events between 7 am and the time the two returned from New Jersey and that the jeweler and his friends have conducted a full court defensive press to distance and confuse things.

VICTIM FRIENDLY

Websleuths is a victim friendly forum. Attacking or bashing a victim is not allowed. Discussing victim behavior, good or bad is fine, but do so in a civil and constructive way, and only when such behavior is relevant to the case.

The "victim friendly" rule extends to the family members of victims and suspects. Sleuthing family members, friends, and others who have not been designated as suspects is not allowed. Don't make random accusations, suggest their involvement, nor bash and attack them. Posting their personal information, including names, addresses, and background data -- even if it is public -- is not allowed. That does not mean, however, that statements made by family members and other third parties cannot come into discussion as the facts of the case are reported in the media.

Does anyone know why the Stamford Advocate is the only news outlet reporting that James Rackover "was indicted by grand jury in Manhattan on Monday, just a day after proclaiming his innocence in an interview with the New York Daily News."?

This supposed Monday grand jury indictment has NOT been reported by: NY Post, NY Daily News, NY Times, WABC, WCBS, WPIX, WNBC or Fox 5 NY.

The only source for this alleged grand jury indictment is the Stamford Advocate (whose update at 6:58 pm, Monday, November 21, 2016 still reflects a Monday action by the grand jury)

It is a small paper with fewer and fewer reporters and more wire pick-ups in recent years. I would guess that heard that this was coming and printed. I don't think they do a lot of updating to stories. For a more accurate indication of what is happening the NY and big news outlets are the best bet.

EDIT:

My apologies. My initial reply came across in a poor manner. Sorry about that.

First I've heard of this....

"At the hearing, Assistant District Attorney Antoinette Carter asked Judge Gerianne Abriano to allow investigators to photograph Rackover, to check for signs of a struggle or other injuries."

"The judge agreed prosecutors had “reasonable cause” to take the photos, which she ordered for Tuesday."
