is it possible that she was carrying those jeans the whole time? is it possible that she was not in her pants at GC's and he chose to omit this fact in order not to "rat on his neighbor" because of what that would imply?

because if Shannan was trying to escape and saw herself coming out on the side of the road where she saw the light, how would she expect to get away unnoticed in her underpants?

~above bbm~

I have wondered the same thing minazoe. The reason I have questioned this in my mind was the unnessary information given by MP re: Shannan was fully clothed when he entered JB's home.

Thanks for reminding me of GC's comment. It makes me wonder if SG was so frightened that she indeed ran out of there with her pants in hand. JMO.

Let me also add that many cases of thyroiditis are misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder.

I think you nailed it Seaslug. I think that is essentially what happened inside of JB's home that night. I am not convinced, however, that SG managed to run all the way through that marsh - without her shoes or jeans.... AND without her cell phone - and end up drowning so close to Ocean Parkway. There was probably a lot of scanner activity that night related to Shannon's 911 call, and the other two 911 calls. Maybe our sk was listening to the scanner, and maybe he found Shannon after the last time she was seen alive. Who knows??? Why is it taking so long to give us the COD? I will bet you it ends up being "inconclusive", but I want to hear them say that.

The following post is my opinion and my opinion only:

Didn't GC perceive Shannan Gilbert to be in some way mentally compromised when she was at his house? Didn't he say that she had trouble standing and almost fell?

It has been my experience (I was a lifeguard for over a decade. I worked at swimming pools, fresh water beaches and salt water beaches. I have management experience in this field as well.) that when you mix a mentally compromised (maybe) individual and a body of water of any size, let alone an ocean, bad things can happen. I can understand and appreciate why somone would consider drowning a possibility when an adult woman seemingly vanishes into thin air.

I have to agree here - Shannan was missing for a long time, everyone was speculating as to what happened to her, and it was reasonable to assume she was no longer alive. GC put forth what he thought might have happened and while I personally never agreed with the theory, it wasn't impossible or unreasonable. He probably was hoping that she hadn't met with foul play - drowning was the lesser of two evils - and his opinion was in large part an expression of that. I don't think GC is involved in any way.

That's really interesting. I'm not sure I think that's what happened - I kind of think that sort of detail would somehow have come out, since other people saw her that night too (although I'm still confused about how many - I know at least one other did and called 911?) But your comment raises a really good point I think - our opinions are being based not only on information that might not be completely reliable (e.g. MP's version of events) but that pertinent details or information may simply be left out, not giving us the full picture. For example, it has long been surmised (or inferred) that Shannan ran from GC BECAUSE he said he was calling the police, but now it appears there could be another reason - that he didn't in fact let her in and she wasn't about to just wait on his porch for the police to arrive, changing the perception of her from irrational to rational, in my opinon! (and also removing one of the reasons for speculation that she was, for some reason, afraid of the police.) I mean, obviously we have to go on what is provided - we can't just imagine any old thing and throw it in there! - but it is true, and I forget this - that sometimes there is just as much that can be learned from what isn't being said as what is.

(I'm probably stating the obvious to those of you who are old hands here!)

I appreciate you telling a possible story from the police prospective. However, there were a few points that I question as a police officer and how they should react to a call.
In short, I did make a call about someone I had known that did something to a baby. I was told they put tape across the paci to keep it in their mouth because "they couldn't deal with the baby not shutting up". appalling so I called it in
This person in turn threatened me that if I did not call back and claim it was a flase report on my end they would call in a false report about me and my children, real nice huh. These sick ppl, I do not regret calling till this day! Anyway so I called the police asap letting them know what was said to me about them. The police came out and talked to me. He stated even believing me if they did make that call they would still have to check it out.
So, even with ppl and the perp's/ the John (JB) giving a off hand comment of "nah shes just looney" the cop would still have to do their due diligence and search. Unfortunately they did not, this is the defunct LI LE.

sigh if only we would get a hold of those tapes!

Also, a side note about bi-polar diagnosis and women. I feel a lot of times women in our society are delegated as bi-polar because well you know we think women are moody. we= society as a whole
Not that this woman had a rough life, her depression and reaction to the crap that happened to her as a child would be a normal reaction. Especially young girls/kids would not know how to channel the disappointment at life but, with some anger.
I wish she was given a second opinion on this bi-polar thing.
just thought I would through that out there

Good for you for calling that in!

And I agree wholeheartedly with your comments about the bi-polar diagnosis. Good points, IMO.

Seaslug...just wanted to respond to your lengthy post.

I disagree with your overview...

To my knowledge there are no "actual facts" or any reports whatsoever of Gilbert being in any kind of rage ...or acting violently at all. There are no reports of her cursing, yelling, hitting, kicking, etc...Only her pleas for "help me."

Your post makes me sympathize with Gilbert even more...because it's as though you are placing more blame on the victim.

edited to add...

also, as far as Brewer grabbing her from behind...even Pak stated that he didn't know why Brewer did that. there was no report of any "extreme vengeance" on Gilbert's part...period.

I am hearing of a crime scene in Bay Shore regarding a lady found wrapped in plastic yesterday, dead 2 days in her home on Cardinal Street in Bay Shore and they just found her 3 year old child dead in fridge this morning.

I have not confirmed this. Maybe I will take a ride by there in a little bit to confirm. It doesn't appear to be in the news yet. Who knows if it is connected to this case.

Very interesting theory

Makes a lot of sense on the surface but if LE has come up with this conclusion they are being very lax.

Because:

1) It does not explain PCH's calls to SG's mother and his involvement.
2) It assumes 'manic behavior' of SG rather than 'fear behavior'. When we are terrified we may not act rational from another's point of view, but it is completely sensible to the terrified person, as it might seem as the only alternative.
3) SG's call to 911 for 23 minutes, a manic person would not likely stay on the phone that long.
4) A rational person would run to a neighbour (GC) and ask for help.
5) It assumes the disappearance of the gatehouse tapes is another unrelated coincidence.
6) I believe that escorts are mentally strong enough to subjugate their personal feelings when they are with a client. I would be very surprised if her supposed anger with MP entered the conversation when with JB.
7) JB called MP for help to settle SG down, not likely if SG had been complaining about MP to JB.

8) Their whole theory is based on SG being the author of her own mis-fortune
which is too simple.

If LE is buying this theory then they will never solve these crimes, or catch a SK.

Here are some excerpts from a link to an article another poster just gave, forget who.
I find them very odd or interesting and even in this first one you can see the obvious contradictions.

Halfway down the page Pak says he did not know there was another road to more homes but Coletti saw her do this and its the only well lit area. So how could Pak not know?
"But when Coletti distracted me on my left, Shannan ran past to my right so I thought she was at the front gate. I didn’t know there was another path of houses further right," he said.

Gilbert ran around the corner, Coletti said, and headed past the gate, which is the only well-lit area in the neighborhood. Instead of running out of the community and toward Ocean Parkway, she turned onto a road called Anchor Way,... snipped

Then this the video tape camera, there was more then one? I did not know this. The chances of more then one tape being tampered with accidentally seems even more far fetched give me a break.
even further down this quote:
The cameras posted on the gatehouse routinely capture photos of license plates entering and leaving, creating an automatic log of activity.

Another camera, posted on a streetlight near the gate, points in the direction of the mailboxes on Anchor Way, where Gilbert was last seen running. Apparently, none of this footage was recovered, according to Sax, Laster and neighbors who have questioned what happened to it.

"Anybody who has done ‘Law Enforcement 101,’ knows this," Sax said, speaking about the investigation.

oh and this last one above these other quotes talks about what she was wearing
Now has it not been reported that she was wearing a black low cut tank several times?
When he asked what was wrong, Gilbert just stared at him, he said, remembering that she was wearing a light-colored tank top.
With that what happened to these change of clothes? I did post before it was stated she changed into boots in Pak's car with the article reporting this. I do know we have sandals, boots, ballet flats associated with her and now a white and a black tank top.

Sounds kind of similar to Pickle Chris' case he was telling us about. Keep us updated.

I just came across a comment on another forum that has me going in a new direction. The poster pointed out that pigeon food comes in burlap sacks. Not sure this is even true. Couldn't figure out an appropriate thread for this bit of information.

isn't GC a pigeon guy?

looking at Colletti and trying to see him as a a potential suspect brings to mind

Albert Fish the serial killer...he looked old and feeble and hunched over, but in reality he was strong and nimble capable of great violence.

just sayin.

At first I thought he was a nice ole' guy, a hero, and got upset when he was criticized. But he has changed his story so many times, or revised his story so much I am no longer enchanted with him.

There is usually at least one homicide per week on Long Island. Some make it to the news, others do not.

Are we going to post in the LISK discussions about every dead body we hear about (especially since most are the result of domestic violence?).

Just in the past month we had to hear about the man whose wife killed him and dumped his body off of the Wantagh Parkway, the 19 year old boy who was found dead off of Creek road in Islip Terrace, the religious talk show host's chronically ill wife who was found dead in the basement of his home in Amityville and now the woman and her child who were found dead in their Bay Shore apartment with no sign of the girl's boyfriend who lived with them.

What do any of these crimes have to do with this case?

At this rate by this time this year we will have heard about over fifty more Long Island murders. Then again, this is yet a perfect example of how many cases the homicide departments have on their agenda to investigate.

I suggest that if we are going to make a big fuss about other cases that we at least focus upon the ones that could possibly be related to this case (finding a dead body is not exactly any sign that a case is related).

Here is a perfect example of an article that talks about two cases that actually could be related to this one;

The Associated Press reports that Anthony Vargas of Queens plead guilty to sex trafficking on Nov. 22 and will spend up to 11 years in jail for forcing a 13-year-old girl to work as a prostitute after police officers found the young girl locked up in the room that Vargas was keeping her in.

Warren, of Brooklyn, is accused of forcing a woman to work as a prostitute in Queens, and of beating, stabbing and threatening to kill her. Authorities say he also took her to an Internet cafe and made her advertise her services on the website craigslist.com.
Source here

And other one;

A 13-year-old runaway was promised love and support from a man she met on the Brooklyn streets. Instead, she was beaten and forced into prostitution for months, her services advertised online...

The 13-year-old had fled a New York group home when she met 21-year-old Kendale Judge. He promised her love and care but instead raped her, beat her and forced her into prostitution, prosecutors said. His Facebook page read: “Pimps don’t cry, they slap that ***** and say get out there and grind.”
.

Source Here

Then again, we probably should be working on posting links to articles that actually do speak about this case like this one;

Police also are interested in Akeem "Vybe" Cruz, Waterman's former boyfriend, who is serving time on a drug charge. They are investigating the Brooklyn native to determine whether he promoted prostitution in multiple states,...

Police, seeking to seize Cruz's laptop computer, say that Cruz arranged for several women to work as prostitutes, advertising their services online on Craigslist...

"He had called me months ago and said the FBI had gone up to see him and apparently they took his laptop," Napolitano said. "The last thing I knew, they were investigating him federally."...

According to a police affidavit, Cruz is responsible for promoting prostitution in multiple states by advertising women on Craigslist. The affidavit was submitted in federal court in New York as police worked to seize Cruz's laptop, which they believed contained evidence of promoting prostitution.

Source here

So all of this time, they never bothered to seize his laptop when he was the one who booked all of MW's appointments?

A year later?

So this is basically proof that the police never bothered to try to hunt down links to the LISK's IP address or phone number or to read any possible emails from him that could have been stored or discovered by analyzing the data on her pimp's laptop!!!

Maybe a thread of LI cases that peek ones interest to just post links and a quick quote?
This way they are organized in a spot for others to possibly reference to if they think there is a possible link to look at.

Both very good questions. I'll ask about the ME van but I think Suffolk County used unmarked vans for ME. I'll double check.

No word on why they came to the house either. I would assume if someone has been deceased for weeks, one wouldn't just wake up and decide...'Ok, today's the day I'll call. She hasn't moved in weeks.'

On a lighter note, I've had about 5 people from the area mention the same POI....Quite strange. This person used to live in Gilgo Beach and moved about 1 1/2 years ago. This name keeps coming up whenever I talk about this case.

Is it SY?

I agree Seaslug. Sorry to litter this board with miscellaneous homicides that probably have nothing to do with this case. I'll think before I post next time!

On the upside of those swings, the bipolar woman can be extremely irritable and can often become so enraged by her anger that she acts like a complete maniac (blood pressure boiling, acting viciously, extremely short-tempered, agitated beyond belief).

In a nutshell, such a woman would be described in slang terms as a "psycho B*tch".

(once again, I mean no disrespect to SG. Just trying to paint a picture of the way it is and why the police feel the way that they do).

(RSBM)

It was a brilliant idea to examine this case from the police perspective. We are all limited by our own worldviews and viewpoints, right?

The only part that doesn't add up to me is that none of the witnesses mention Shannan being angry. They only talk about fear. If anger had been present, I feel people would definitely harp on it. People tend to make a big deal out of it when a woman displays anger. (And there's my viewpoint coming in...)
