Horrible idea when you consider that the kiiler(s) only target victims from out of town.

I actually agree with you on the out of town aspect. I just believe she was an exception.
I don't think she was a prostitute picked up at port authority etc.

IMO if not local then what exactly could be detrimental in passing on details of an unnamed victim?? I completely understand if it was asking for donations, pushing propaganda, or pushing to spread lies.. I'd not have a damn thing to do with any of it.. But here we simply have a description that's already been released to the public and only asking that this info describing the victim to have a much better chance of it being read by anyone who could ID this unnamed victim.. I personally do not see the harm or negativity that could come from simply ensuring this info is passed on to as many as possible thus giving all the more chance of identifying this victim..

For any who may take umbrage with the email or details themselves then they certainly have every right to choose not to aid in seeing this info brought to as many as possible..

Very simple- someone on the LISK site has been engaging in passing Trojan viruses to their readers. A chain email would just be another way to infect everyone's computer.

That's another good reason not to trust that website, IMO. Email is among one of the most common vectors used to spread Trojans, spyware, viruses and malware, IMO.

Here are two links about Trojans, emails and "attack vectors":

Was anyone else aware that during the infamous first phone call aside from the "halfway house for run away teens" line, the perp also claimed to be a police officer?

Did somehow this tidbit eluded us?

Listen closely to this interview:
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/long-island-serial-killer-manhunt-13372385

I just have to say that what struck me from watching that was Dormer saying "whoever was targeting these individuals was doing it because of their business. We don't have someone running around Suffolk County with blood dripping from a knife."

Um, yeah actually you do, figuratively or literally, whatever the case may be.

I get what he's trying to say - he's saying, hey, if you aren't an escort you don't have to worry, so don't freak out.

I find that so offensive. I find it insulting to the people who live there, who should be concerned that this is happening and that such a person is living in their midst regardless of whether or not they are possible targets themselves. I also find if offensive with regard to the victims, as to me his comments come across as diminishing the seriousness of this.

Whoever was targeting these individuals was doing it because of their vulnerability as a result of their business, and perhaps also because anyone who hates women the way a SK of women must probably finds it even easier to despise prostitutes, as they are already in a position of debasement and degradation in our society to begin with.

Maybe I'm looking at what he said too literally, but to me his choice of words is precipitously close to revealing an attitude that is all too common and which so often contributes to murderers of prostitutes getting away with their crimes for much longer than they would if their victims were in another profession.

This post doesn't help anybody here but I just had to say it! I'm glad Dormer is gone. I'm not saying he wasn't taking the case seriously - obviously he was - but it's still insensitive and clueless of him to phrase things the way he did. IMHO.

I have to wonder if that was a mistake in reporting? Maybe that reporter was confusing MG with Mrs. Waterman? If not, what other tidbits have passed by our magnifying glass? Searching for my fine tooth comb now.... The weirdo that I am I was watching that video on repeat, trying to get an accurate sense of the emotions. I do have to say the impression I get from the mood and statements etc. are quite different around iteration 5, compared to the first impression. Now when I watch it I believe I am witnessing someone who is experiencing something much more traumatic than I had originally observed. Something about it reminds me of a scene from Shutter Island, I can't recall what is triggering that memory exactly.

Yes, I think it's important to note that it was the reporter who said that MG said that in this clip, not MG herself. Also - she didn't actually say when Mari said he told her that - it could well have been he told her he was a police surgeon when Mari went to his house and talked to him. It doesn't necessarily mean Mari claims he said it in his phone calls with her.

I notice that Dormer says "that was pretty much debunked". I'd like to have heard the exact question that preceded that, so we'd know exactly what "that" refers to. Then the reporter persists, asking how Mari would even know about him, and he says "I have no idea - homicide task force is going to follow up on that." Why would the homicide task force be following up if "that" was debunked? B) Obviously he had an idea of how she would know.

Just more examples of his bumbling, in my opinion.

I did notice that the reporter says "the mother in Maine." Does Mari live in Maine? I thought she lived in New York. If she doesn't live in Maine, then the reporter is getting things confused and may well have been confusing Mari with Mrs. Waterman.

You're absolutely right. The SK is looking for victims of opportunity and sex workers are easy prey. But so are women stranded by the side of the road after their car broke down, or women who walk out of a bar after drinking too much, or a woman jogging by herself at night, etc. Would Dormer trust the perp not to try and add another victim under those circumstances? I sure wouldn't.

Perhaps posting the photo on utopiaguide might yield some results. Seaslug, do you have any friends over there you could try to get the word out too?

:floorlaugh:

Now see, I would have asked Silly Billy. :floorlaugh:

My personal feeling is that our guy doesn't look for victims of opportunity so much as he targets women he can play with over a period of time before killing them. I'd bet my farm that "courting" these girls before killing them is big part of how this guy gets his kicks.

Settle down everybody, if you looked at the lisk post you will see the bottom of the email is signed brendan. I sent that post in to the admins of that site. I came up with the idea of using the "viral" power of email to increase the chances of the right person reading the unidentified person description. I'm a former programmer and have a degree in computer science, and as low tech as it may seem, email is an extremely powerful tool. This isn't the movies (dragon tattoo) and we don't need to go hacking into perps machines in order to catch this jack the ripper. An email can spread exponentially the way a cold or virus spreads, but that is where the analogy ends. You can not get a virus by copy and pasting text from the post I made containing the letter in quotes. you are supposed to simply copy and paste the text and forward.

It also occurred to me that capitalizing on email signatures (the quotes or phrases automatically injected at the bottom of each email) could be a helpful and potentially powerful tool for organizations such as www.amberalert.gov or https://identifyus.org or even www.websleuths.com. These organizations could create an app/tool that manages peoples emails signature (if you want it) and can be updated, so each email you send will have a signature appended to the bottom that could be updated dynamically from the organization. An ever changing amber-alert bumper sticker on every email sent (by supporters). I believe this idea is right up your ally fellow sleuthers so feel free to run with it.

A "viral marketing campaign for law enforcement" so to speak. The Hotmail story is one of the most successful viral campaigns ever and is a great way to refresh your memory on the power of viral marketing/communications:

"In todays era of social networking it’s easy to think how quickly the likes of Facebook and Myspace grew but the real viral marketing pioneer was Hotmail.

In December 1996 Hotmail had 500,000 registered users – less than a year later they had over 12,000,000 users. This astonishing growth rate was down to the fact that every single email sent from Hotmail included a small advert promoting the service in the footer."

email is actually more powerful than facebook etc in some respects in that it breaks out of the walled area and can reach anyone with an email account, not just facebook users. There is no barrier for email.

Hello Friends,

By this time all of you have heard about the "Long Island Serial Killer",
well you don't need to know anything about the case in order to help solve
it, you simply have to forward this Unidentified Person Report to your friends
that live on this island or lived here in the mid 1990's. When you share
this email with other Island residents you will be contributing to the
rapid exponential growth of this report. This Unidentified Person report
should reach the majority of Long Island residents in a matter of a few
days. Someone on this island will remember this woman from 1995, most
likely from the operation on her ankles and the scars on her legs, possibly
a nurse, doctor, social worker, rehabilitation therapist, or just a friend.

"Police investigating the case said they hope that scars on the body will
help in the identification. The legs were found with the toes of both feet
painted with red nail polish. Both legs show healed surgical scars at the
ankles. In addition, according to police, the right leg has a 3 1/2 inch
scar on the posterior calf muscle and an "L" shaped scar on the shin. The
left leg has a similar 3 1/2 inch scar on the inner side of the calf muscle.
Homicide detectives are seeking help in identifying the victim in this
case. Any one who recognizes the scar pattern or has any other information
that would assist police in making a positive identification is asked to
call the Suffolk Homicide Squad at 631-852-6396 (Homicide),
1-800-220-TIPS (anonymous tip)"

the full unidentified persons report can be viewed here:
https://identifyus.org/cases/9098

please share this with your friends on Long Island,

your name here

You can not get a virus by copy and pasting this text into an email you send out. you have my personal guarantee.

The email is good and bad.
Yes you can have someone attach a virus along the way of receiving it.
Also most will just see spam and ignore but, then what of that off chance that it is seen. To me that one chance is worth it. idk

Also there is a way that gets attention on FB, which I no longer use. There was a time where all the women pasted an answer to a secret question on their wall post. That made CNN news. If you can get a chain reaction from people to pass along a certain day to post and change the profile pic of a victim from LISK. It may gain some ground.

Why not just try, cant lose.

I agree about the e-mail, quiet girl. I opened an email from one of my contacts last week which was 'INFECTED'. After opening the attachment, the email was forwarded to everyone of my contacts. The attachment was for, wm clears throat, male enhancement products. It traced back to some Russian site. I was so embarrassed although it wasn't of my own doing!!!:blushing:

Y'all just be careful.

I do like the FB idea. Social networking can be a powerful tool when used correctly, IMO.

If there are people interested in the email idea put forth here, it might be safer if each person drafts their own email with their own text. Go directly to “identifyus.org” for Jane Doe's picture (NamUs UP #9098) to attach to your email. I would be wary of opening and attaching to your email any link or any file (like jpgs or pdfs) originating from the LISK website as viruses appear to to be rampant there.

A while back I posted this:

For those of us who peruse the LISK website, please be careful about what you click on, IMO. There has been talk of viruses on that website. Don't click on anything you don't know.

Be careful of files that have these extensions: .EXE, .BAT, .COM. These extensions can be mixed with other ones to trick us into thinking they are safe files.

Sometimes, viruses hide themselves within these extensions: .MP3, .MPEG, .JPG, .PDF, .DOC, .DVI, .HTML.

Sometimes Trojans can be programmed to “kill” our anti-virus software without us knowing about it. Our anti-virus software can be made to appear that it is still working and functional. Trojans hide themselves within the deepest parts of the computer or disguise themselves as legitimate system files.

Another way to attack computer systems is via the web browser . Malicious script can be run within the browser itself . The most common vector for this attack is through internet explorer.

Just some thoughts and just my opinions.

This is a re-post of my previous post, that did not get any responses. I was hoping somebody in LE who monitors this site would give us a little insight or hints as to what is happening.

I do not know a lot about autopsy's other than what I have seen on TV. But it appears the time delay for the release of SG's results has meaning in itself.

1) We can assume that it was given high priority by all parties.
2) Everybody in LE wants to get it 'right' so there is no ammunition for the defence in a high profile court case. The results have to be unequivocal.
3) The delay to me implies that there is conflicting or ambiguous results, details or information.
4) Worst possible result for LE would be 'indeterminate or unknown causes'.
5) If the SK is as smart as I think, and he did dispose of SG's body after he had it a while, likely he took every step possible to confuse and conflict LE and point away from his culpability.
6) In my opinion if it was death by natural causes the report would be out by now.

Anybody know what is going on?

Secondly, if the SK is monitoring this site, he must be having a few chuckles at the speculation and randomness of some of the opinions.

Be that as it may, do the psychological experts on this site have any idea of the probability of the SK actually posting here?

Oh BTW, If the SK is reading, you need help, go to a lawyer and have him arrange your surrender to LE.

(It does not hurt to ask nicely)

Thanks

Love your post. Especially your closing. No, it doesn't hurt to ask nicely!

Anyway, there is a “Sticky Note” section in this forum with a “Professional Posters” link. If you click on the link, it will take you to a list of Websleuths vetted experts. I saw a list of several people with verified expertise in psychology and profiling. I also think I saw a name of one person with verified criminal justice expertise. Maybe you could try contacting them?

I hope this helps.

According to Tricia Griffith's Twitter page, this website went down last night for a couple of hours due to server issues. She said it was on their end.

http://twitter.com/websleuths

For those who would prefer not to use the above link (no offense taken), I googled: websleuths+twitter. I think there is a link to the websleuths twitter page somewhere in this website too. If I'm not mistaken, the twitter link is on the homepage.
