Partial article below;

DANNEMORA, NY — She cheated on him with the two convicted killers she helped escape, and even plotted with them to murder him, cops say — so now, the husband of jailed prison worker Joyce “Tillie” Mitchell wants some answers.

Lyle Mitchell paid his wife a surprise visit Tuesday at the county lockup, spending an hour grilling her over a telephone, divided by Plexiglas.

Joyce’s lawyer, Stephen Johnston tried to portray the visit as a doting husband standing by his scandal-plagued spouse, saying, “I know that he will do whatever he can to support his wife.”

But later, Lyle Mitchell’s lawyer, Peter Dumas, said that “nothing could be further from the truth,” according to NBC.

“There’s no way I’m standing behind her,” the lawyer quoted Lyle as saying.

The hubby had some questions for his wife concerning reports that she conspired with David Sweat and Richard Matt to murder him once the convicts got away, Dumas said.

Wearing a baseball cap and with newly grown facial hair, Lyle showed up at the Clinton County Jail in Plattsburgh at 8 a.m., Sheriff David Favro said.

It was the couple’s first time together since Joyce was busted Friday, and Lyle kept his cool as other inmates and visitors gawked at the couple.

“He acted quite normal . . . There was nothing outlandish,” the sheriff said. “No fist clenching or pounding or outrageous emotions at all.”

Sources have told The Post that Joyce had sex with one of the killers, Sweat, while she was his supervisor at the Clinton Correctional Facility sewing shop. Once their relationship was discovered, she switched her affections to the other killer, Matt — who convinced her to help them escape.

Joyce confessed to multiple behind-bars romps with Matt, CBS reported Tuesday.

She was busted Friday on charges of smuggling in tools to help the convicts escape.

Despite his anger at Joyce, Lyle ducked questions from a reporter when he emerged from her lawyer, Johnston’s, office following his visit.

Johnston described Lyle as a “nervous wreck” and said he probably “doesn’t know the full story” about his wife.

I believe they had details that had not yet been released in the media, that is why the cops found it credible.
Also, the dogs picked up their scent in that backyard. :twocents:

LE had made a statement at a presser saying that Wednesday or Thursday (I don't remember which day now) was the first time dogs had picked up a scent.

I
Perhaps their "Plan A" cohort(s) (I believe an outsider, not Joyce, met and helped them) went into the manhole and cut the pipe opening for them. Then they all drove away into the night... JMO

Crawling through a 24" pipe with a guitar case though? Anyone have a guitar case? It seems it would be too wide. (Remember in Shawshank Andy dragged something tied to his foot?). I can't even stand to think about crawling in a pipe, never mind carrying stuff with me. I would die of a panic attack from being in a small space. :panic:

You got me thinking...maybe someone brought the guitar case right out the front door!

That green is the same green that so many beauty products use to give a "spa" feel to them. Estee Lauder uses a very similar grey/green color a lot. I've taken surveys before for things like that and I always say to get rid of the dusty-grandma-colored containers. They're the very opposite of soothing IMO, whether used in prisons as well or not. bleh. JMO

Yeah, I believe they had mentioned the guitar case before that became public knowledge.

I don't think they would consider the one 40 miles south credible. I'd be interested in hearing exactly what LE is calling credible sightings.

Based on where they're concentrating their search efforts, I guess. There were apparently several "unconfirmed" sightings around the Ryan Road/Cringle Road area -- which apparently they considered credible enough to keep a lot of manpower searching in that area. And they moved east, apparently due to the report of that farmer on the other side of the Saranac river. Perhaps for the unconfirmed sightings further afield, they're just contacting local LE in that area to keep a sharp lookout.

I'm kinda thinking that Tillie really was their plan A -- after all, they spent 2 years grooming her. IF all these unconfirmed sightings were accurate (in addition to the scent of both men that the dogs picked up, and a campsite), they hung out in someone's yard for awhile - close to the manhole (maybe waiting for her to show up??), and then dug around in the Subway dumpster to get some food, and then headed out to the wilderness area, where they may have stayed in the same area for some time -- why? Did they not have a map or a gps? Did one of them sustain an injury that kept them from moving fast? Did they find an unused cabin somewhere? I was walking through the woods yesterday, and noticing that at this time of year, the ferns and other undergrowth is so lush that you could climb under that stuff and be hidden from sight by someone just 3 feet away (although one would be in serious danger of poison ivy rash). Perhaps, if they had some sort of food source, they just decided to stay hunkered down until the search waned, and then figure out what to do. Perhaps the intense search in the area where they were made them decide to head east, across the Saranac. If they keep walking east, they'll hit the railroad line that runs north and south along Lake Champlain -- they could hop a freight car and be in Canada or Binghamton in hours. THAT may have already happened by now.

I can't believe they haven't been caught yet.

"Clinton County Sheriff David Favro said Tuesday that rain has been washing away any scent dogs might find and interfering with thermal imaging devices being used to detect body heat." Well, I guess that explains why they haven't found them IF they're still in that area (or have been recently)

This article mentions a fact that we need to remember -- search dogs DID find the scent of both guys in the area near the prison -- NOT sounding like they were picked up by an accomplice as soon as they stepped out of the manhole.

Brilllant my dear Sherlock I think you have solved it. The railroad is best idea I have heard - perfect. A guitar case filled with three days of food and water. Look at some of the pics millions of places to hop a train with noone around. Someone with "directionial " sense - was the place where they were suppossedly spotted, in relation to the prison and heading for Lake Champlain is that logical. Need like three x's! Prsion, spotting, Lake Champlain......

Question posed with more clarity: does the spotting look like they were heading in the direction of the RR system?

Wanted: (pun intended) Individual wherein evrything on any map does not always look like "take a right"!

Does this look like it could be feasible in terms of walking distance to get from manhole to this railroad line? How many miles, etc?

pop quiz!

'There is an immense amount of detail that they had to receive to know exactly where the pipe was and to know which pipe it was.

I see what you are saying here...When he left the prison after speaking to his wife he did not seem to be worried about these guys threatening to kill him. I would have been escorted to the prison by LE or had some sort of security.!

After the false lead from Dog Chapman, I am back to thinking they found a nice small house or cabin in a rural wooded setting and are holed up waiting it out. I think they found a well stocked place and are probably watching the news reports and realize it is just too dangerous to make a move yet. So they are waiting it out. Maybe weeks before they will make another move. I still think they are relatively close. Im thinking maybe 7-10 miles maximum. With the guys hurt leg, I think they are holed up to let him heal and let the heat die down.

I just hope they dont have any hostages or hurt anyone yet. We will most likely hear about a break-in eventually. It may take weeks.

What LE needs to do is to ask people who own any properties in the area and have not been able to visit them recently to go ahead and call into LE to have LE check out their cabins or houses.

That would allow LE to focus on the ones where the owners have not checked on them yet.

ah ha the train escape has me mesomrized:

In 1986, at age 19, Matt was convicted and sentenced to a year in the Erie County Correction Facility. But that term was interrupted when Matt, taking advantage of a guard’s mistake, slipped out of his cell, scaled a 9-foot brick and metal wall topped with razor wire and hopped a freight train to his brother’s house in Tonawanda.

Matt was also powerfully persuasive when he wanted to be. In 1991, while imprisoned in Erie County yet again, he convinced a fellow inmate — California socialite David Telstar who was jailed for embezzlement — to pay his $15,000 bail. Telstar then offered to pay Matt to murder his wife and her parents, according to a 1992 Los Angeles Times story, not knowing that Matt was a jailhouse informant. Telstar later pleaded guilty to the murder-for-hire scheme.

Did I miss something? When did Matt hurt his leg? I thought it was Sweat that was on meds for a bad back.

Binghamton is the freight train hub of NY.

http://www.railfanguides.us/ny/bingo/

"On this page is a map of the regions rail lines showing how Binghamton is the "hub" of railroading in southern New York state and the Southern Tier lines."

(keeping in mind there is no passenger train service here, nor at all nearby)

I believe Dexter Morgan and others had that idea 9 days ago and stated where it was. I'll look for it.

The train is possible although it looks too far from there if I am reading the map right. Do we know how far away the nearest tracks are?

The 2nd part of your post sounds an awful lot like him convincing Tilly that he would "help her out" and knock off her husband and they would run away into the sunset together.
