How many night shift CO were duped by these killers while they worked on the pipe?

Maybe duped. Maybe not duped:

An official said investigators were focusing on as many as four corrections officers who had either switched their posts in the months before the escape or had often been seen at night around the cellblock where the two men were held. Among other documents, the officers’ bank and phone records were being examined.

Just trying to find a link to support my statement -

"Then, carrying the tools in a guitar case one of the inmates had in his cell, Matt and Sweat shimmied six stories down pipes — from catwalk to catwalk — until they reached the ground floor."

Well that doesn't really tell us where it came from originally. interesting. hmm.

It just occurred to me that it's assumed they took the guitar case with them because it was presumably missing from the cell when they were discovered missing.

It's entirely possible IMO that Palmer actually removed it from the cell because it contained items related to the escape plan, rather than actual tools they used to saw their way out the night of the escape, as presumed in earlier media reports. I don't think there was ever an actual guitar in that case. I mean, was a guitar found in the cell out of its case? Have there been any reports that either of these two played guitar? I've only heard they were artists.

Palmer walking in, out, or around the prison with a guitar case would probably not seem unusual since he's the guitar player in a band...maybe he would sometimes bring his guitar to work so he could practice during breaks or play for others.

Well anyone in the field getting a paycheck will have a big month. More than enough for a few tower guards. Then there's the paintings, what's the deal behind that? How far up does this go, did the prison not have the funds? Was there no maintenance man to fix the fuse?

The "maintenance man" is Tillie's husband  I've been trying to figure out why Palmer would be going through the trouble and risk to bring tools from his house. Why didn't Tillie just have her husband supply these for them to use? Wouldn't that have been a whole lot easier?

Media reported that Sweat's guitar was left behind. Witness who was with his GF about 12:00/12:30 AM, who saw 2 men in his backyard which was near the manhole, described one of the men as carrying what looked to him like a guitar case. That wasn't released in the papers (one male carrying guitar case) until much later, though

Not to make light of this serious situation, but there's no shortage of humor in the circumstances surrounding this elaborate escapade :giggle: Last night, DH and I were talking about parody lyrics for "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?" (from Finian's Rainbow) and Elvis' "Jailhouse Rock". Today is our 44th wedding anniversary, and we are going to a matinee ballgame (Detroit Tigers/Chicago White Sox) followed by dinner at our favorite downtown restaurant. There's rain in the forecast, so I'm armed with pen and paper and will head to a lounge where I can watch the game on a monitor and work on the songs. Your contributions/suggested are most welcome ;)

Neighbors described Mr. Palmer as an affable man who played guitar in a band called Just Us.

The night after Mr. Matt and Mr. Sweat escaped, Mr. Palmer gave his neighbors words of caution.

“He said, ‘Watch your dog; that’s a very smart dog you have, pay attention,’” said Sandy O’Neill, who lives across Reservoir Road from Mr. Palmer. “He said, ‘Don’t go walking in the woods by yourself, bring your dog. Watch if there’s anything different about him.’”

Ms. O’Neill said that one of Mr. Palmer’s jobs was to escort Mr. Matt and Mr. Sweat from their cells to the prison tailor shop, where they were supervised by Ms. Miller, the civilian employee.

“He knew the two inmates and he knew Joyce; his job was to take them from their cells to where they worked,” Ms. O’Neill said. “He said he never had any problem with them.”

BBM

 wasn't there a siting in which one of the guys was carrying a guitar case?

Interesting no word from the Warden. Ever. Yet not. IMO once this Investigation is complete (of the prison) there will be some other folks gondy.
Maybe they're starting at the bottom and working their way up! How likely is it that the Warden will keep their job.

Around 12:30 a.m., Leslie Lewis, 29, who grew up in Dannemora, said he saw two men in his backyard not far from the manhole cover. He described one of the men as heavyset with dark skin, the other thinner with light skin. Mr. Lewis said in an interview that he yelled at them and asked what they were doing. He said the thinner one replied: “Oh, sorry, we’re on the wrong road. We didn’t know where we were going.”

Both were wearing jeans, Mr. Lewis said. The heavyset man was carrying a canvas bag, and the slimmer man, who was wearing a white T-shirt, had a black fabric guitar case, Mr. Lewis said.

Mr. Wylie confirmed that Mr. Sweat had kept a guitar in his cell and may have been carrying tools and clothes inside a fabric case that night.

The last Mr. Lewis said he saw of the two men they were hurrying down Barker Street. Then they disappeared.

Happy anniversary, BDE! Wishing you many more:party:

He's on a timeout, still standing in the corner facing the wall.

Oh hey look you found the duffel bag! IMO

The "maintenance man" is Tillie's husband  I've been trying to figure out why Palmer would be going through the trouble and risk to bring tools from his house. Why didn't Tillie just have her husband supply these for them to use? Wouldn't that have been a whole lot easier?

LOL it just gets better. I'm almost surprised Tillie didn't drive up to the front door and pick em up.

why would anyone help these killers escape?

Million dollar question!!! What in the world could be so bad or so enticing to cooperate with this escape and help them in any way?? Surely those involved knew what an escape of this magnitude was going to do!

My humble opinion on the warden's silence - he's PO'd and probably was asking for changes all this time and probably nobody listened to him and now he can't say anything because of being bound by whatever same thing Gene Palmer said he was bound by, but when this is all done I bet the warden fires a ton of people, resigns voluntarily, and then is ALL OVER media and even writes a book.

JMO

IMO they didn't ask a maintenance man to do this stuff BECAUSE it was Lyle, and they didn't want to risk losing their number one patsy, Tillie. Didn't need Lyle questioning anything. Probably IMO the same reason Gene brought in his own tools.

Implausible as that sounds.

Has there been mention of Matt/Sweat fellow inmates being interviewed by LE? I can't imagine that prisoners in the honor cell block were not aware of the dynamic duo's elaborate escape plan. I'm curious about who knew what was going to go down and how long beforehand they knew. Besides JM and GP, how many other prison staff were aware of the proposed escape? I'm also not convinced that Lyle didn't know what his wife was up to :waitasec: Was he really oblivious to what was happening in that cell block, or has his attorney advised him to literally "play dumb"?

I don't think he has to "play dumb".

I've been wondering why we had not heard one word from him.

My guess is he and associates have been too busy cleaning up files knowing they were in the hot seat! Just from what the public knows on how this place is run, can you imagine the "real inside" story?
