GUILTY OH - Elaina Steinfurth, 17 months, Toledo, 2 Jun 2013 - #4

I want to think the diversion of the diaper found near the river was just that - a diversion. But I think that's giving her too much credit. She had no other plan with this than to blame it on someone else - IMO. I think she thought no more about a diversion or 'fooling investigators' than she did about where she was sleeping with her kids each night. I believe strongly Elaina was killed in a fit of rage and AS (with help - because she didn't have a vehicle) threw her into the river, leaving the diaper as if it would fit and button up the kidnapping story and that would be it. The problem is the police never stopped putting pressure on her and then VOILA, the poor Elaina WAS injured but it was by THE BOYFRIEND! She had to switch to the backburner story because a week or so went by and the kidnapping story wasn't cutting it.

One question I have is, where was SK during the time before AS was arrested, when they were doing initial searches? Was he right there supporting her to find the baby or was he removing himself further from the situation? To me, what was going on with him during this time is very telling.

I'm definitely not a drug expert but I've been around enough 'druggies' to know some of the weirdness they display. The way the mother acted during her first court appearance made me think she was coming off of something. I know zilch about heroin but how she acted made me think of meth. I had asked a while back if people were tested when they were arrested and another poster said they were. Drugs certainly explains why she was so adamant about going to the JK/SK house that night and I also think she flew off in a drug-rage at Elaina and couldn't believe even herself the next day. Just MO, but I think the drugs threw her over the edge. I do not believe this was a planned missing child or worse, the way the other one was in Orlando.

There is so much the police are not releasing - at least I hope so. I do hope there was a strategy behind the court date being reset to tomorrow but time's ticking. We have to remember that this AS is NOT the sharpest knife in the drawer but unfortunately, being member here, I've seen some pretty dumb people seemingly get away with the worst.

Family and friends are searching today and the family has an event planned at 2 p.m. Search Headquarters is on Leonard at Federal St. Searchers are needed today and everyday until Elaina is found.

Justice4Nevaeh is organizing searchers tomorrow at 10 a.m. They have a map of areas searched and turn searcher reports/finds over to LE to follow up on.

T.J. and friends were out in a boat early yesterday searching the edges of the Maumee and at Maumee Bay. Family friends were in a boat yesterday afternoon doing something similar. I think this was prompted by the article on the cell mate of AS.

Several people were interviewed again (not T.J.'s family) yesterday morn and the police were at the home of one of the people interviewed in the neighborhood mentioned in the news article. He came down and showed us the card that was left at his house.

I do not think there is any official SAR working on this. From what I know, "Dog Lady" and an Ohio rep of Texas EquuSearch contacted a member of Justice4Nevaeh, last Monday within a half hour of each other. (I was there when the calls came in.) TE said they had to be called in by FBI and was offering services of 45 which was shared with the family. J4N contacted FBI who said to contact the lead detective (on vacation) for permission. That was done and later permission was obtained for TE. (Detective was not familiar with TE.) Now there is a fundraiser in OH stopping TE from attending. An offer to send a couple of "mappers" over to "help" was turned down after consulting with family. During that conversation we found out TE had contacted local news and it was reported they were coming. All I can say is "Dog Lady" showed up with dogs and an offer and areas were searched several different days with Kimber, her dog. TE had a fundraiser. Just sayin'.

We also asked reporters involved with the cell mate story and news released yesterday without being verified, to notify family before they release their stories. (I will not comment on what seemed to be a lack of compassion on the cell mate story as I could be wrong.) Toledo Free Press (or close to that name) must have still been at an undisclosed location so they did not get our message!! One reporter (I will find her name) said they always verify with the police and had come to the search headquarters to verify what had been said as they had heard nothing. Thank you for that! I know T.J.'s family appreciates the news coverage and helping to keep little Elaina's name and story out in the public's eye. I get the reporting first thing, but please let the family know first, especially if it is potentially devastating news!!! This family has been on an emotional roller coaster as the searchers have been.

Again, I say I am just a regular person who lives nearby and I knew no one in Toledo previously. I am down there with Justice4Nevaeh. If I mention their name it is with their permission.

Please join the family wherever you are at 2 p.m. today and light a candle asking Elaina be brought into the Light and found. Thank you.

In one of the most recent interviews with TJ, he said that TE wasn't sending searchers anymore (since the theft of their equipment, etc, presumably). They offered 1 or 2 mappers instead. TJ and the searchers feel like they are more familiar with the area than anybody, so the mappers wouldn't be needed. I think they were hoping for searchers!

I'm just paraphrasing, but I didn't get the impression that TE was offering the kind of help they are renowned for. They weren't going to search.

I don't know if any mappers would help, but I trust that the current searchers are doing a great job and everybody is familiar with the area, interested in following up on tips, etc. They sound like they are doing a great job! Can anyone remember the name of specialist searchers who are experts in water currents, etc? I know I saw a show where they found a missing man in a river.

I can't remember what they were called, and my Google Fu isn't helping me. If she's in the water, it might take a group like that to find her I know the Coast Guard is great, but these folks were even more specialized.

Please post if you can think of who they are.

Not necessarily. J4N is there and helping with coordinating searchers and it sounds like they have a lot of familiarity with the area so it is possible that they feel comfortable with the current system and don't want to risk messing that up. It may just be a case of "too many cooks ..."

I can see the dilemma. It's just another group to meet with instead of getting out in a boat and searching It's not like TJ was twiddling his thumbs instead of spending time with the TE mappers. He was literally out on the water himself, searching.

I do think that the folks involved know the area very well. Maybe TE could still map the area and give that to the current searchers, without taking time away from any current searches. That could work!

I think it would be a HUGE mistake to involve (or even approach) the King family and I wouldn't trust RS's priorities (or mental stability) enough to give him any role in the search. The Steinfurth family seems to have a good grip on things and I'm not sure I would risk upsetting that balance by inviting more unknowns in.

Could be, but especially for water searches, I'd want someone qualified doing the searching. I did read where TJ and a friend were in the river searching, and that's great, but this is not their line of work. I'd hate for evidence to be contaminated by untrained searchers. (IF evidence is indeed there)

I am off to mix up some exploding sidewalk chalk for my kids and a few nieces but check Dylan Redwine's threads. They had a group in searching the lake for him but I can't remember the details.

If drug addictions are a factor here, there should not be any expectations that confessions will be forthcoming. People addicted to drugs are not going to do or say anything on purpose that will remove them from their connections, i.e jail or prison. If the Cummings clan had been able to avoid getting caught selling drugs, I don't think they would have ended up in prison, as they would have kept their mouths shut about Haleigh, just as the ones not in prison seem to have done.

It's been three weeks now. I feel so sad that baby Elaina still hasn't been found. Tomorrow or Tuesday, I'm going on vacation for the week. I won't have internet, because my friend who I'll be visiting doesn't have internet anymore. But she has dish tv, so I'll be able to watch HLN and keep up that way. I hope JVM and NG continue to cover baby Elaina's case. I really hope baby Elaina will be found before I get back. I'll be checking in as much as possible before I go.

I go to sleep thinking about where baby Elaina could be, and when I wake up the first thing I do is get on here and check for updates and read all the posts, hoping and praying baby Elaina will be found. Baby Elaina has caught my heart, and she is on my mind all the time. I so want her found, and those guilty of harming her and worse to be held fully accountable, as well as those who are covering for the guilty ones.

We'll see what happens with AS in court tomorrow morning. I hope we get more answers then. I don't believe this will be a cold case. It feels that way at times, but AS IS in jail, and I doubt she's going anywhere for a very long time. I think SK will be charged at some point, hopefully after AS's court date tomorrow. I admire the way the Steinfurth family has conducted themselves, and the love and dedication they have for baby Elaina. They have done everything humanly possible to get and keep baby Elaina's story out there, and I pray they be given the strength to keep doing so. I pray the media will also continue to keep the search for baby Elaina a top priority every day until she is found.

Missouri highway patrol water search patrol found and rescued 2 bodies from the Missouri river yesterday. Although the bodies had been reported found and they knew where to recover them from.

In the second court appearance, there was a lawyer standing behind Angela with long, grey hair. I am pretty sure I've seen him on TV associated with cases. He looks very, very familiar to me.

That's what I thought too when i saw the lawyer with long grey hair. Has he been on Dateline or 48 Hours? He does look familiar.
