That's a good question YellowDog. I had not thought of that but had thought of other horrid possibilities like selling body parts on the black market. It makes one wonder if one of Dr. H's underlings was involved in some illegal activity that is connected to Creighton somehow and the person was 'disciplined' under the umbrella of the University and perhaps held a grudge about being discovered.

I can see these types of crimes being hushed by a University and handled internally. This type of publicity could be damaging for them, Ya know?

All JMHO.

Hello, I'm still relatively new to WS and have been spending all my time on another case, but have decided to look at some other ones as well.
I have gone through the whole thread and find it fascinating. I started on the first page and was hoping there would be some kind of answer at the end - but I see that hasn't happened - yet.

One of the things that brought me to WS is my use of Google Earth. I have always enjoyed finding the locations of places in the news. Getting a sense of location makes the stories seem more real to me.

Back in post #403 waltzingmatilda suggested using Google maps to find the location of the house:

Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - Omaha double murder

I think I found the location, but am hesitant to post anything. There may be reasons this hasn't been done that I'm unaware of, or I may offend someone by doing so. If you think it's a bad idea, or a good one - let me know.

I'm sure you guys will get to the bottom of this. Both families, as well as the community need some kind of closure in all this.

Address for the Hunters:

303 N 54 ST

Thanks for your interest and offer to help!

Dear KAE,

Welcome to the thread and thank you for your offer to post the maps. I would love for you to post the maps. I know that google maps have been posted in other case threads so it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, maps of the Creighton area and the Area of Tom's school would be great if you're willing to post them. I am a visual person and always find these maps helpful. Thanks for your kind offer. And please continue to post here.....new opinions and insights are always welcome. We have some great sleuths here. :~)

Thank you - I just wanted to make sure it was OK.

I found the address of the house on the first page of the thread. That made it easy - I just typed it into the 'search map' box on top once I zoomed into the Dundee-Memorial Park area:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...1767,-95.996591&spn=0.001807,0.00397&t=h&z=19

It picked the house with the 'A' over it. Sometimes it's right, but sometimes it can be several houses off. Unfortunately Google doesn't have any 'Streetviews' of this area. That makes it harder to confirm the house choice.
You can zoom in or out using your scroll wheel or by clicking the plus or minus buttons on the left.

Heres the same search using Bing Maps and something they call 'Bird's Eye View' :
http://www.bing.com/maps/default.as...&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&scene=13567492&encType=1

It picked the same house. I compared it with the photo Snick1946 posted and it seems to match. Maybe Snick1946 can confirm if this is the house.
The view is looking to the east. You can see the 'E' on the compass in the top left corner. If you click on any of the other letters you'll get a view looking in that direction.

Clicking on the 'W' gets you this view:
http://www.bing.com/maps/default.as...&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&scene=13567562&encType=1

I believe this shows the parking area behind the house and where Shirlee Sherman had her car parked when Dr. Hunter came home.

I hope this can be of some use.

I'll see what I can do with the school and Medical Center.
(Sorry if this bores you all, but I love this stuff!):)

I've had this thing ready to post for a few hours - been waiting for ya Snick.
Thank you

KAE- WOW!! Thanks- you can actually see the parking area in the rear of the house, I think it's safe to assume that the kitchen entrance was located there.
I also found a frontal picture of the house on the county assessor website, I think this was posted earlier but will post the link again just in case new people want to see it:

http://douglasne.mapping-online.com/DouglasCoNe/static/accountinfo.jsp?accountno=R1242690000

You need to scroll down and allow a moment to load.

KAE, You aren't boring us. I'm thrilled to have someone familiar with accessing these maps. The Bing maps sure give and good view of the neighborhood and the proximity and placement of the homes. It seems the front lawns are vast and sloped upward...very private.

We've discussed someone coming from the rear of the house so this gives a great perspective of the area and possibilities of such. Please share all you want!

You are a great contribution here!:woohoo:

I should be thanking you. Every time I read one of your posts, that song went through my head. And that's a good thing - my dad used to sing it when I was a kid. I can still hear his voice...

OK, here's what I got for the school.

Snip
The daytime slayings jolted the historic Dundee neighborhood and the Omaha community. The stabbings claimed the lives of a sixth-grader at King Science and Technology Magnet Center and a 57-year-old woman who was a mother and grandmother.

Bolded by me

In Google Maps I get this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...ence+Blvd.+Omaha,+NE&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A

In Yahoo maps I entered the school address and the house address and it plotted a route:
http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m&lat=41...e Blvd. Omaha, NE &q2=303 N 54th St, omaha,ne

I think the route it plotted is simply the shortest one, and has nothing to do with the school bus routes - but it does give you a rough idea of the distance and travel time between the two locations.

I'll work on Creighton tomorrow.

ETA: Hey, If you look at the yahoo map, you can see Creighton University just above that big interchange!

I have long been a fan of the "clinical trial" theory. I have researched and never been able to find out exactly what clinical trials were being conducted during the year prior to TH & SS's death which may have been overseen by either of the Dr's. She is Cardio, he is Pathology. During a specfic timeframe, were any employee/students discharged, lawsuits filed? Thanks KAE, great work on the maps!!!

Hi WM :blowkiss:

Are you referring to the idea floated on the 'Law and Order' episode based on this crime? Either or both doctors involved in some clandestine research on patients, etc that backfired into a crime of vengence?

Maybe an odd coincedence, but in the rear view of the house you can see what seems to be Shirlee's old white(I want to say a ford) car, that was described in the early news articles, parked in the back.

Good eye, Moonlighter! IIRC, I read a post stating that the Hunters parked in the garage so this could very well be.

It seems that these maps could help in the discription of the suspect's SUV but IDK how often these satellite images are captured. May RAE knows the answer.?

Interesting. That was my first thought when I saw the white car........"wonder if that's Shirlee's car?". That back area looks pretty well hidden from the street. The killer could have maybe entered through the back door without being seen.

The Birds Eye View images are taken from an airplane. I have no idea when they were taken. They can be as much as days or months apart - of the same area. I've seen a building, viewed from one direction, vanish in a view from another direction - replaced by an empty lot, bulldozers and mounds of dirt!
So if you're familiar with an area you might be able to tell by any construction you see - and when that took place.
Short of contacting Microsoft or the supplier of the images to find out, I don't think you can tell.

Here is the location of Creighton University Medical Center. It's on the west side of US-75 and Creighton University is on the east side:

http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=41.265122,-95.951993&spn=0.007226,0.015879&z=17

The same area from Bing maps:

http://www.bing.com/maps/default.as...&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&scene=13568438&encType=1

Here's a screen shot from Google Earth showing all three locations:

Let me know if you need anything else, otherwise use the links I've posted to explore these locations on your own.:)

KAE, You Rock! Thanks for all the help. I really like the perspective of the Bing map.
I wasn't sure if there were any 'real time' maps. LOL! Just wishing....

Hi YD! I remember reading an article on this thread that interviewed one of Shirlee's family members (a brother IIRC) and it was stated that she had not dated for a few years. Sorry, I don't have a link handy but it should be on this thread. Maybe someone with a better memory that I can confirm.

Moonlighter, Here is the link to the article stating where Shirlee's car was parked per an interview with Dr. W. Hunter.

http://www.ketv.com/news/18726316/detail.html

"I drove up the driveway, I immediately knew something was different because Shirlee, our cleaning woman's car was in the back driveway. Normally, we drive up into the back drive and back up in the garage and her car was there," Hunter said.

YD, I found this article while searching for a link to answer your question. While this article does not answer your question, I found it worth rereading. There's alot of info that we can revisit. I wish we had access to the 911 call!

Could the long coat have been a disguise? Could the person at the door have actually been a woman disguising herself as a man?
