There's no information on this morning's hearing, other than it was held. I'll have to see what I can find out from Ken.:1683577731304.png

Spoke to Ken briefly this afternoon. What I learned is that the state of Oregon does not offer plea deals. Lovrien could have tried to offer his own plea deal, but if he did, it was rejected. No deal was completed yesterday. So the state is probably feeling pretty strong about their case. Next hearing is on Friday May 19th. If I get any relevant Portland news (like maybe finding out where the courthouse is between now & then I'll let you know...)

Ken was told that Lovrien has two court appointed attorneys, yet he sold his house and one is listed as a private attorney. He's looking into this. Also I'm in Portland at the moment. Tried to see the front of the courthouse on Saturday evening and it was blocked off. I'll see if I can go by again tomorrow or Wednesday. Meanwhile, I just checked OJD and a bunch of stuff has happened in the last couple of days since the last hearing- for starters it looks like Lovrien is trying again to get the cases severed into two trials even though he was denied. 1684216165107.png

I took a couple pictures of the front of the courthouse today, but WS told me that they were too big to post from my phone, so it'll have to wait a couple of days until I'm home to try posting them again.

Nothing more on the books before 6/30 at the moment... seems like that is changing daily. I keep checking. I just talked to Ken, and it's very discouraging. First of all, the state of Oregon provides a public defender if requested, even if they can afford a private attorney- so Lovrien has both a public and a private one. Apparently he's trying hard to delay the trial and remain in county jail because that's cushier than going to state prison. So it's possible that the trial could get delayed another year... and he may be planning to use a mental defense, and he's trying to sever the two cases again.

Thanks @LinasK - I shall check back next week or so - so see if there is something before the 6/30 hearing.

Ken called to tell me that they judge has changed his mind and decided to sever the two cases. We don't know why. He may talk to the ADA to find out why. Our trial may be first. The only advantage that I see from that is that if we aren't able to secure a conviction without Mark's body, they should have a slam dunk in the other trial. There is one positive thing to report- Lovrien also tried to get the DNA evidence thrown out in our case because they obtained his DNA surreptitiously without a warrant. That didn't fly. Also, another hearing is scheduled this Thursday.1685481186630.png

So - since the cases are now severed - will one of them get a new case #?

Also - the time for the 6/30/23 motions hearing starts at 9am? I can not read it as it is cut off...

TIA! :)
