I certainly do remember. This all exploded shortly after we moved to Oregon in 1984! The Rajneeshees had gained a tremendous amount of power before they were brought down. As I keep saying, do NOT underestimate this group at the refuge. They may seem like a joke, but they are absolutely and dangerously focused on their ultimate agenda. Even if they leave the refuge, they will keep going elsewhere and gather followers. JMO

Agree. I got to Oregon shortly before you. It was unreal how rapidly the Rajneeshees took over and how extensive their hold was on local jurisdictions. And they were spreading into the Columbia River Gorge and Portland.

Good thing Oregon had some astute prosecutors. IMO, they never did come down hard enough on the Bhagwan, though. The hypocrisy of this man. It makes me ill to see how big his Osho business is, the books, the recordings, the Ashram visits, international reputation, meditation retreats....

Meditation and "spirituality" and militarism and consumerism and Rolls Royce ownership (didn't he have, like, 26?) all rolled into one? Bwahahaha!

Now try to find a Black Lives Matter protest, with ONLY one white protester. Pete Santilli brought that guy there to try and counter claims that black people would be treated differently. That guy is not a real part of this protest.

There was a Canadian KKK chapter (or whatever it's called -- a klavern?) that claimed (/boasted) to having one black member. I think it was in Saskatchewan or Alberta. True story.

BURNS — Members of the armed standoff at the Malheur National Wildlife refuge said Monday that they've recruited ranchers to stop paying the federal government for the right to run cattle on public land.

The occupation organizers are planning a "signing ceremony" Friday where ranchers will sign documents renouncing their obligation to pay fees tied to the federal grazing allotments, said spokesman LaVoy Finicum.

Cool.

Guys, you are all hereby invited to a signing ceremony in which I solemnly pledge that I do not need to pay taxes any more and that I get free pizza delivered every Friday.

OT: Sorry to stray off topic, everyone. "Mr. Bhagwan" really needs his own thread, even after all these years! It's a lesson in how what seems absurd can become a deadly serious reality. I'm sure Bundy would like to know how to attract such wealthy followers.

This guy had waaaay more than 26 Rolls Royces! And his followers were aiming for even more. I wonder what happened to the cars when he was deported, and I'd be interested to know how his successors live now in India.

He gained public notoriety for the many Rolls-Royces bought for his use, eventually numbering 93 vehicles.[SUP][95][/SUP][SUP][96][/SUP] This made him the largest single owner of the cars in the world.[SUP][97][/SUP] His followers aimed to eventually expand that collection to include 365 Rolls-Royces—for every day of the year.[SUP][97][/SUP]

Sorry to keep it O/T, I agree, Bhagwan needs a thread. :) My mom's friend was really into this in the 70's, when I was a kid. Orange clothing and all. She eventually got out of it, idk why because nobody told me since I was just a kid, lol. I just remember my mom shaking her head at her friend's antics and that she basically thought friend had gone nuts (although she never said that, at least not around me). I'll have to ask my mom sometime what she remembers about all of this. I know they're still friends, although they don't see eachother often due to distance.

Was it Clayton Bigsby?

Well see, the bridge protesters weren't armed.

If they had been, no arrests necessary; they would have been shot on the spot.

IMO of course.

Arresting people is so 2015.

For some people, apparently. Others, not so much.

Worcester Anti-Foreclosure activist Chris Horton was taken to the hospital Monday morning after an encounter with police at Quinsigamond Community College during an event honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Witnesses tell Worcester Magazine Horton was handing out flyers about foreclosures at the annual MLK breakfast, which had drawn hundreds of people, including state and federal officials, when he was asked to stop. Horton allegedly pushed or shrugged off a campus officer who had approached him, before he was wrestled to the ground, according to witnesses.

Horton was then escorted out of the breakfast, according to witness accounts and photographs posted on Twitter. An ambulance was later called and he was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center.

A person answering the phone at the hospital said he was in the emergency room.

Being escorted out one minute, in the emergency room the next? :waitasec:

I can't wait to see on what grounds he was arrested. Still, lucky he wasn't armed or he'd be in a morgue drawer.

Unlike those Many Moron Militia guys, who can't get "escorted out," much less arrested, no matter what they do.

Looks like they found a place to have their meeting.

Bundys Urge Oregon Ranchers To Stop Paying For Grazing Access

“The militants occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge asked Harney County ranchers at a meeting Monday night to cancel their leases with the federal government.
The three-hour meeting took place just outside Crane, Oregon, at a hot springs resort.

At times it took on the tone of a thoughtful civics lesson, at others more along the lines of a fiery preacher delivering a sermon.

Militant leaders Ammon and Ryan Bundy — along with Ryan Payne — laid out their views on the role of government.

But it was group spokesman LaVoy Finicum who asked ranchers to stop paying the Bureau of Land Management to graze cattle on public land.”

This from early on in the takeover:

The Armed Oregon Ranchers Who Want Free Land Are Already Getting A 93 Percent Discount

“Those transactions, though, can be a pretty good deal, regardless of their constitutionality. According to a 2015 report by the Center for Biological Diversity, the Bureau of Land Management’s fees for grazing cattle on public land are much lower than the fees charged by private landowners, and they’ve only become cheaper in recent years.

In 2012, the bureau’s fees for grazing were 93 percent cheaper than the average market rate in 16 Western states ($1.35 versus $20.10 per AUM, which is a fancy acronym for the amount of land needed to support a cow and her calf for a month1).

The bureau’s fees are so much lower than the market price in part because its fees are set at a flat, national rate and can’t be adjusted to match demand in local markets. Plus, the bureau sets that national grazing price using a formula, rather than any kind of bidding system or market appraisals, as some other federal agencies with higher prices2 do. As a result, in 2014, grazing fees covered only 15 percent of the bureau’s costs to maintain grazing lands. The rest of the cost is made up in federal appropriations and covered by taxpayers.”

Hot springs? Now that's suffering for the greater good.

Yes. Of course. Now if you will excuse me, my white azz is going to knock over a liquor store. I will probably be back here to post about it in a couple of hours. That is, if I am arrested.

Apologies to whomever posted because I do not recall. Who wants to join me for a free vacation in St. John's in the Virgin Islands? It is difficult to get a spot, but we will take it over. I assume that only white people with maybe a token black person can go. Sorry.
