Yes, it is Longview WA, LaLouve. I was just going to post asking if anyone on WS is in the area. I didn't realize it was relatively close to Portland.

I'm not sure what would be the appropriate thing to do in this situation. If it is Stephanie, she's likely having some issues. But I'm not sure what the police can do other than a 72 hour mental health hold, and they'd have to have a good reason for that, I think. She's allowed to be homeless and mentally ill.

My inclination would be to go to Longview with a couple of other WSers, contact the police, and walk around showing her photos to people and posting fliers. If I found her, I'd strike up a non-threatening conversation, offer to buy her a meal and see what happens. Beyond that, I don't know, and I'm not even sure that's the way it should be handled. But that's what I hope my friends would do for me if I were in that situation.

The two comments just said Longview. The local police would know if there is an area where the homeless congregate. I would check shelters, soup kitchens, etc. Fortunately it's not a huge city.

I would like this to be Stephanie. I fear it will not be though. It can be very difficult to obtain information from homeless/transient people, if they don't know you and think someone doesn't want to be found. I think it may be better to appeal for info via an organization/worker known and trusted by them.

About the photo of Stephanie looking much older. I think she has one of those foreheads that develop folds ( with certain expressions) at a rather young age. So her forehead can look a lot older than the rest of her face, at times, and a certain expression in a photo can make her appear much older than in another pic, taken at the same time.

Everyone else: Re the flyer, it is the original she is faxing with the original photo. I requested that a link to the FB page be put in the cover letter so more photo's can be seen. As for the "homeless woman", I think it should be fairly easy to find her! Last night, I chatted with one of the women who reported the tip. This tipster actually spoke to the "homeless woman"....The tipster told me that the woman asked her for food, not money. the tipster gave her some snacks and juice boxes. Here's the zinger: I asked the tipster if the woman had a "southern accent". The tipster replied "She talked different" and than ""Not quite southern.. THAT IS A DESCRIPTION OF A NEW ORLEANEAN DRAWL IF I EVER HEARD ONE!!! I have a good feeling about this!!!!!

I have this fear, perhaps irrational, that this person is Stephanie and the wrong person is going to get to her first...I'm looking at flights but once I get there, I am a city girl, I do not know how to drive

Kelso yes, they are basically twin cities. Also just across the river (there is a bridge there) is an area north of St. Helens, Oregon. Bunch of very tiny towns along the highway there (near the decommissioned nuclear plant). The bridge certainly would make it easier to get to Oregon and back. Thinking maybe some transients would camp in the woods and come into one of the towns when they needed provisions or money.

I'm so sorry I can't get up there until tomorrow, usually my schedule is very flexible. Sasquatch may be able to help you today.

Besides the homeless shelter, I think churches, libraries, and the YWCA might be good places to check too. Also the local McDonalds here seem to be popular places for panhandlers to congregate - I suppose the $1 menu is an attractive point.

Please let me know which flyer you want me to use and I will print as many as I can before I run out of color ink. I'll take them up there tomorrow.

Also thank you for reminder that Steph speaks with a NO accent. Had forgotten about that.

Stay home, OUOTP. Your heart is in the right place, but you can do more good being in one place, manning the FB page and coming to WS. If the Longview and Kelso police are notified today, and others get there tomorrow, that will be fine. I would add Vancouver to the police notification too.

The quickest way would be to google "cross necklace made of nails" which is what I did. I will look for my post on the first thread, but by the time I find it, you can google. It's not very big, maybe 1 1/2 inches long on a black leather cord.
