Sounds like just a minute or so after he threatened the county police guy as he was hoisted up to the edge of the roof.
The local guy drops to the ground, and just after, Crooks fires insanely accurately nearly a football field plus 40 yards away, very nearly achieving head shot of trump. Crooks had nerves of steel. He was dedicated beyond belief, and I say this as a former hunter. Like running an obstacle course then immediately shooting someone so far away.

Biggest mystery to me so far, if 3 county guys kind of subcontracted to usss (iirc), were in the bldg, photographed Crooks, saw him return with a duffle bag, saw his range finding directly towards trump....why didn't they, er, go out and apprehend him? The part about relaying the photo to a command center sounds lame.

So there were at least 2 local cops "hoisting" one of them up to the roof, 3 county guys inside the building manning some superfax each time they saw the SAME guy in the most suspicious of circumstances, yet they waited for someone to tell them what to do?

his gun was still in his bag at that point so would've been easy to grab him

The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, has virtually zero online footprint. He has no known TikTok, Instagram or Snapchat. No has no friends who've come forward.

And like other US assassins in history, his politics are ambiguous. He was a registered Republican and described by a classmate as 'definitely conservative'. Yet Mr Crooks also donated a small sum to a progressive movement in 2021.

Dr Rachel Toles, a licensed clinical psychologist based in California, who specializes in the study of violent criminals told DailyMail.com that politics may have had little to do with the shooting - as astonishing as that may seem.

From her experience, Dr Toles said that people in these scenarios often suffer from an extremely damaged ego, and have a desire to take out someone who has what they most covet - which could be success, popularity or good looks.

It's possible that former President Trump could've represented something Mr Crooks deeply desired - fame, success or respect.

'Trump gets more attention than anyone on the planet.

'And now we're talking about an invisible kid who no one talked to in school unless they were kind of picking on him,' Dr Toles said.

She added: 'So we're talking about somebody who feels incredibly invisible, and he's targeting the most visible man on the planet.

-Both Dr Kardaras and Dr Toles believe these killers share more in common with mass shooters than serial killers or people who kill someone in their personal life.

Serial killers tend to be motivated by an internal drive to dominate and hunt other humans - and tend to have high self esteem, Dr Toles said.

By contrast - people who try to shoot political figures or take a gun to a school usually are doing so in order to get attention.

-Dr Kardaras said the political assassin normally falls into two categories - those driven by the idea that their actions will make large political or social change and those who are driven by the idea that murdering someone will make them 'immortal'.

Both are likely to have some sort of mental health issue - be it delusions, depression or paranoia.
Thank you for sharing this article! I strongly agree with her assessments, and I believe that above anything else his profile fits the typical mass killer. Naturally since a political figure was nearly murdered, people will have their own political opinions on it and make assumptions. But, what we do know about this man, (or what we don't know!) is pretty atypical of the political assassin profile. He doesn't seem to have a purely ideological or political motive so far, and the FBI can't find one either.

If his main goal was to influence people or make a big politicial statement, I would think he'd have left behind writings/recordings or something explaining his motivations. But we don't know of any, not even a note. He chose the president for a reason, but I believe it's less about him as a person and more about what he represents. Additionally it seems more likely that Crooks actually went out of his way to erase his digital footprint and any trace of what he was really thinking or wanted to "accomplish" in regards to the killing, nearly the opposite of what these types of killers do. moo

It sounds like he was practicing, whether for the attempt or just in general.

One odd thing (well at least to me) is that he went back for a range finder. I dont think there would be bullet drop concerns at that range- but I could be wrong. What do you think?

If the range finder was not needed, it seems "James Bondish" and implies fantasy. But, that is contradicted by just how accurate he was. It just seems odd.

the ultimate 'in your face' for him was his accuracy since he was rejected from the rifle club in high school and probably carried that resentment forward with him IMO

I have the same question. Did they not have enough security on the ground? If one of them just walked outside and looked him in the eye maybe we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

My thought is that this is being said because, since there was an apparent threat related to Iran, Trump's Secret Service coverage had already been upped for that reason. And, yet, some 20-year-old unknown was able to be seen by security as suspicious, climb on a roof, & get shots off. In spite of "enhanced" security already (supposedly) in place due to the possible Iran threat.

Imo.
Yes, that is my point. They were hardly beefed up so it doesn’t make sense. They obviously didn’t have aerial higher ground coverage. An Iran threat needs all hands on deck.

It seems that they released that just to make it look like they are in touch with the security Trump is requiring. ‘We are so dialed in to all of Trumps threats.’

The widow of the slain victim in Saturday’s shooting in Pennsylvania spoke with former President Donald J. Trump on Tuesday, she said in a social media post.

“He was very kind and said he would continue to call me in the days and weeks ahead,” Helen Comperatore wrote, adding that she had told the former president that her husband, Corey Comperatore, “left this world a hero, and God welcomed him in.”

Mr. Comperatore’s sister, Kelly Comperatore Meeder, said members of the family had also spoken with representatives of the Trump campaign on Monday night.

There are a bunch of Chinese websites that sell similar looking transmitters. Theoretically, they can transmit up to 1000m. It's entirely possible he tried to use it and he was too far away.

You called it from the beginning.

It is a typical "Herostrates complex." "I am so unhappy, I'd rather kill myself, but if I do it, who'd come to my funerals?" So what they do, they secure that the whole world does. They used to leave manifestos; I think now they stopped for fear of looking stupid.

What can prevent it? Well, their names do get in papers, and as Herostrates' history tells, you cannot erase the name from history.

Maybe, look at the murderers who failed to become famous? Lee Harvey Oswald? Sirhan Sirhan? They are not heroes...

I think something was done right in that time. Either their photos were ugly, or their stories were not heroic.

It is a horrible situation, because we all are anti-bullying and the society has become super kind...but in some FBs I saw memes ridiculing his looks...I know we shouldn't do it! But potential damage left by these mass murderers is so huge that maybe, just maybe, we should try some "aversive therapy?"

On the one hand, we are not unkind to "victims of bullying"). On the other, we are too kind. I remember the fight about 13 or 15 crosses at Columbine. I don't understand why there should have been two crosses for the ones who killed 13.

In general, I absolutely agree with Dr. Kardaras and Dr. Toles's assessment. But we are past that. Now, maybe the time has come to figure out how to anti-heroise these imbeciles?

More details than what I just posted:

By 3 p.m. on Saturday, Thomas Matthew Crooks was at the security screening area for the Trump rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania. He first aroused suspicion when he passed through the magnetometers carrying a rangefinder, which looks similar to a small pair of binoculars and is used by hunters and target shooters to measure distances when setting up a long-range shot, according to a senior law enforcement official briefed on the investigation.

The rangefinder would not have prevented Crooks from getting through the security screening point, but it did attract the attention of security personnel who kept an eye on him until he left the secure area.

-Investigators are unsure of where Crooks went after he left the screening area but the working theory is that he went to his car to retrieve the rifle.

-Crooks gained access to that rooftop by climbing on top of the building’s air conditioning system and hoisting himself up, according to a senior federal law enforcement official briefed on the investigation.

-Additionally, after a search of his residence, investigators discovered another bulletproof vest, another remote-controlled explosive device and a 3D printer, according to multiple law enforcement sources.

Do you think his hero was Steven Paddock? Judging by the preparation, quite possible.

lol. I love it when people who actually know what they’re talking about agree with me.

I just hope we eventually learn if he was in fact planning something else before this opportunity arose, and that what it was if he did.
Moo...I think he knew it was a given Trump would be in PA, early on. It was just a matter of time, which he used to plan.
