Per the FBI representative at yesterday's Congressional hearing ... They suspect he disassembled the rifle and reassembled on the roof. There's video from a police vehicle showing him climbing to the roof with the backpack in front of him.
Moo
Ah, ok, thanks.
I didn't see the backpack in the video, must have missed it.
Omo.

I've been following the posts regarding Rowes's testimony. I agree with everyone that has said the agents on the ground need to be questioned.

The lack of radio communication between the teams and the fact that he was observed aimlessly walking around before hand (and omg, a rangefinder not being suspicious) are 2 things that really blow my mind amongst many.

They should admit how THEY failed to do their job so things can move along.

Does anyone think someone may be watching all this to get tips on planning an attack on candidates or their supporters?

First bolded : Agreed. Wonder if that will actually happen, though ?

Second bolded : That is disquieting.
Imo.

And it was revealed Crooks was at the former president's rally three hours before opening fire, even sparking the suspicions of the Secret Service during that time because he was carrying a rangefinder used by hunters to take long shots.
Rbm.l

There is simply no way that the secret service didn't know about Crooks until a few seconds immediately after the first shots.
Zip.
Nada.

If they're (SS) claiming that the communication was spotty or whatever, the video taken by the now recovering James Copenhaver puts the secret service to shame.

Reposting my earlier link :

TC was not crawling, he was running in an upright position.
There's not a chance the secret service missed this.
If several people with their camera phones noticed TC openly walking around and then climbing up to the roof (& they did !) --how did the secret service fail to spot him ?
They were already on the opposite roof and would've had the advantage of sight.

This is not really debatable; imo.
There is every possibility this was something worse than simply communication failure or incompetence.
Something else, in my opinion.
Omo.
Some people may think it is irresponsible to point this out. Not me though. Shine every light on this and see what scurries out! I am so tired of all the secrets, obstructions and lack of accountability.

Well, just for starters....

Use a drone...they won't know...
Bring yer own ladder...it's coo
Use yer rangefinder, and smile when they take your picture
Run and jump like a ninja over roof tops.......no one is watching
Don't worry about the bystanders seeing you and calling you out. They can't hear anything. Their communications are non efficient.
Take your time, and aim with precision....

MOO sadly
Right - at what point is it reasonable to request that, during a political rally, there should be no civilians on any surrounding roofs? I get that they identified TC as a "suspicious person", but seeing anyone crawl onto a roof with a rangefinder and a backpack, to me, is inappropriate to allow in this context.

I don't really think there's any information that could come out at this point that would change my mind about whether or not the SS did their jobs well that day. I'm glad this is being investigated and look forward to its finalization, but I have very little confidence in the SS in its current state. Systemic changes are needed. MOO.

Has anyone asked if the US SS PA site organizer/planner/overseer understood his/her assignment on the day of the assassination attempt? Seriously, Rowe just needed to begin by asking a simple question and going from there... not spend his time on writing CYA blurbs for a hearing. Delay and deflect are wasting time and money... and we're all just being forced to watch and wait.

And, while all that was happening, people on the ground were yelling, "He's got a gun!" and were pointing out a guy on the roof and there was enough time for an officer to go over there, climb up the ladder and see him.

I think there will be PTSD lawsuits. “He’s got a gun” with no one doing anything about it is going to be problematic for SS.

I just think it is totally irresponsible for leaders to put out information like this, but hey all in the name of free speech.

I agree that it's irresponsible for leaders to promote conspiracy theories, but when there's a news vacuum, people often resort to conspiracies to explain the situation.

SS dropped the ball--not only at the attempted assassination but also afterward. Rowe claimed he wanted to wait until the investigation was complete to fire anyone, and I get that. Still, all agents who were in a position to hear/see/act in a different way that might have prevented the shooting should have IMMEDIATELY been temporarily relieved of their duties pending the results of an investigation.

That's what LE typically does when there's a big investigation--just to maintain integrity. Not doing so in this case is creating a partisan feel, and that opens Pandora's Box to conspiracies.

But, more than that--it's actually putting Trump in a more favorable light with voters. Had SS come out with a strong message that they would NOT tolerate this type of ineptness and really thrown their messaging behind that--they'd look better now.

"Just over two weeks after he was injured in an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, former President Donald Trump returned to Pennsylvania on Wednesday for a campaign rally in the state capital.

Trump took the stage at about 7 p.m. ...... saying he wasn’t going to give up outdoor rallies."

Trump campaigns in Harrisburg in first trip back to Pennsylvania since assassination attempt
On the one hand, I support 100% not giving up outdoor rallies. Doing so means terrorist-type activity wins.
On the other hand, I'm concerned another nutjob might show up and try it again & possibly injure or kill more innocent folks.

I have a radical idea. How about the USSS actually make sure the venue is secure? Like they're paid & trained to do?

Yes, though I think it is probably near impossible to protect that many people in an outdoor venue. Unless maybe it is a football stadium or somewhere quite contained like that.

“But we're not giving up the outdoor rallies, you know all those people that we had to turn away today,” he said.
“At an outdoor rally ... we had 107,000 people show up in New Jersey,” he claimed.

All my opinion .... A little bit of food for thought

Let's change the verbage to outdoor events.

My perspective changes.

Do we really want to prevent/discourage Presidents, VPs, First Ladies both past and present from participating in outdoor events?

No more college commencement, no sports events, no throwing the first ball out before a major league game, no Olympics, no outside events in foreign countries- for sure, no more placing a wealth on the Unknown Soldiers Tomb, no more trips to the ice cream shops, outdoor restaurants, lawn and garden parties or cookouts. This is just a few events that would be prohibited.

All because we can't trust the SS to develop safe site plans, snipers, drone aerial surveillance, communication for all involved, and more. They don't seem to be able to take responsibility and as we have heard there is no accountability. The new director is hurt, the staff are sad, upset, low morale, and concerned about protecting themselves.

Since Butler I've learned and researched on federal processes extensively. SS only protects the inner perimeter, they delegate everything else to local police with no support, training or communication. Large cities are able to do a great job. It's a little small towns, with small police forces that struggle, they may not have inside venues or folks with no transportation to travel to an inside venue or large city.

Should we only have events in cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, or New York City, because they have the resources training and staff? What about the people of rural America, the children hoping to get a lifetime chance to see a current a former president or first lady. I remember the first time I saw a president, it was a feeling of aw and vast emotions, I was 12.

I say no, we can't discourage outside events because an agency with a 3 million dollar budget it's incapable of protection. Are we going to force protectees to run scared because the agency can't function as mandated by Congress.

If the Secret Service cannot protect protectees, we need to look to another agency.

Should we consider the military, they have more than enough people, the best resources in the world? Possibly create a new protection division.

Just shut down the protection division of the Secret Service.
They've been plagued by one scandal after another for the last 30 years and been unable to recover.

Anyone have any thoughts...

Truly, let's just have our candidates do a work-from-home campaign... everyone will be much safer that way. We can reduce US SS and LE funding to boot! Everyone on-board with that?! No sense wasting taxpayer dollars on "protection" during such ridiculous in-person campaign rallies, right? What were we thinking even having political rallies?! Apparently, the only thing public "rallies" are good for is burning US flags and spraying red paint... no assassination attempts with those.
