Eh, Joran will have a number of complaints, all stemming from the central cause of dissatisfaction, for lack of a better word: The chickens of consequence (or Karma) have come home to roost in a Peruvian prison.

I thought he said he went to the airport but saw deputies and was
affraid of being caught, so departed ... then the bus scenario, then
taxi(s). Him going to the airport then leaving in fear of aprehension
shows rational behavior -
That's how I remember it also ~ he saw police at the airport and changed his plans to get out of there by land.

Forgive me if this has been discussed before but I'm not clear on whether or not Joran knew of Stephany's family clout, connections and influence in Peru prior to her murder? He knows now of course, but I wonder if he knew then? And if so, how could he be so arrogant/dilusional to think he could get away with murdering a member of such a high profile family?!?
When Stephany went with him to the hotel room, I don't believe he planned on killing her, but rather to somehow take her money (without getting caught red-handed) and have sex. It was most likely when she either resisted his advances or caught him stealing that her death occurred. And obviously this time there wasn't anything he could do to get her body out of there and cover up the crime. MOO

Van der Sloot's Sex-Trade Scheme

Throughout 2009, Van der Sloot was spotted across the globe at various poker tournaments. He won $12,000 at the Asia Pacific Poker Tournament in Macau, where he reportedly assaulted a young woman after inviting her to his room following a night at a local casino. That young woman is filing an official complaint and cooperating with the Peruvian and Dutch authorities, a source tells The Daily Beast. Van der Sloot lived in Bangkok until his father died in February 2010 when he sold the Sawadee Cup café and returned to Aruba to be with his mother.

Very interesting!! This young woman is very lucky to be alive and most important for the Peruvian prosecution, they have a pattern of behavior.

Peru, July 17 (DiarioBuenaNueva) .- Through its new champion, Max Highness, Joran van der Sloot formalized the complaint against his first lawyer, Marina Romero, for allegedly not having advised well in his first interrogation, prompting adeclararse author Stephany Young murder of Flores.

According to counsel, Joran "felt threatened, because police told him they were going to enter your head in a bucket of water and told him that if he signed the statement he would be deported immediately to their land, Aruba." On the other hand, said that the accused is depressed by everything that happened and requested respect for their rights and a fair trial.

Google really does need to do a better job with translations! I'm not sure which is worse, the "Max Highness" or "enter your head in a bucket of water...". :floorlaugh:

Holy moly. Night at casino, meet a young woman, commit assault/murder--what a pattern.

I agree. Maybe the problem starts when or if the young woman resists the assault, or fights back, or the date rape drug doesn't work. It will be most interesting to hear accounts of women who survived a Joran assault, to see how he operates.

And with this information, there goes the "accident" defense. I wonder how many motions Altez will file to exclude it from the trial? MOO

I recall seeing this news report way back (it's dated June 4)...but in light of the allegation of Joran assaulting a girl in Macau, this information seems a little more interesting:

"Noah Acre was playing Texas hold 'em in the Asia Pacific Poker Tour in Macau in 2009 when he saw van der Sloot sitting across the table.

Recognizing the tall Dutchman from the round-the-clock television coverage that the Holloway case generated, he recalls van der Sloot did not seem shy about his notoriety. He wore a loud, multicolored jacket with the logo of L.A. Café - a seedy Manila bar and brothel - and was surrounded by an entourage of young men.

Acre asked van der Sloot why he kept dealing with the media after being burned by a Dutch journalist who released hidden-camera footage that seemed to show him confessing to disposing of Holloway's body.

'Because they gave me money,' he responded.

'I am pretty good at sizing people up quickly,' Acre said of the man he spoke to several times during the week-long tournament. 'He seemed like all he cared about was partying and getting girls. . . . The whole Natalee Holloway thing didn't seem to weigh on him one bit.' "

snipped

I just found a posting by this same Noah guy on a poker players website, using the name 'Noah the Donkey':

"I played with him!

He came to Macau in 2009 for APPT. He was at my table for about 5 minutes in one of the satellites. When I recognized him I asked if he was that guy from Aruba and he smiled and said yes. I asked him why he even kept talking to the media and he said "cuz they gave me money."

I think I made some small talk with him later on but can't remember what was said other than he was going to buy into the main event (USD $5000), and I think he said he was living in Thailand or Philippines.

I have no clue whether or not he's a good player, but based on the fact that he busted from the main event in like 1 hour and the number of times I saw him walk to the cage while playing cash games, I'd say he's probably not very good."

AND...
Here we go again with contradictions...the original report has him winning $12,000 in Macau, but this gambling website states:

"He is also believed to play online poker, and has had some success–he reportedly won $12,000 recently in an online poker tournament."

http://thrombosite.com/van-der-sloot-no-off-line-poker-tourney-wins-only-wanted-girls.html

Also:
"In August 2009, Van der Sloot was spotted in Macau at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour. He won over $12,000 that year in an online poker tournament."

http://koranus.com/post/Van+der+Sloot+won&

Isn't there one single fact that we can get some consistent reporting on??!!?? :banghead::banghead::banghead:

MOO

Apparently it is credible. CBS is on it...

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20010834-504083.html

"A source for CBS News spoke to Peru's Minister of Justice who confirmed that Thailand was pursuing criminal charges against van der Sloot."

The sad thing is, apart from this quote and everything that follows it, the article is simply repeating what has been published in the National Enquirer.

I never thought I'd live to see the day that CBS, home of Walter Cronkite, cited the NE as a source.

Pretty amazing, isn't it? But in the last year or so the NE has not only gotten the stories right, but they've scooped them when other more 'reputable' news agencies wouldn't go near them. (John Edwards.) I guess the NE can no longer be dismissed as an unreliable source.

syntax can be everything - funny.

Found it :) Now who are the other people listed on his business card?

:eye:
Great find Peliman!!! Has anyone here attempted to call that phone number on the card? Out of puuuuuuuure curiousity, I would if I had unlimited international calling!

It's strange, but I haven't seen a single report in the Dutch or Peruvian press about Thailand's investigation into Joran and the two missing 'sex-trade' girls, even though CBS has reportedly confirmed with Peru that "Thailand was pursuing criminal charges against van der Sloot".

In fact, we haven't heard a thing from the Peruvian court re: Joran's psychological test results, the DNA testing, the hearings with the taxi drivers, the examination of his laptop.

Makes you wonder why the court and media in Peru is so tight-lipped now, when they've previously been so forthcoming with information.

Do we still have any American journalists down there or have they all come home? Maybe it isn't typical of Peruvian media to release much information to begin with and only happened with this case because of Joran's notoriety and other media being there? It does seem odd that information seems to have dwindled considerably. :waitasec: MOO

I think in the beginning they were taken right off guard and who could blame them. They bowed to the pressure and even allowed a media tour of joran's cell - probably a prescedent.
Since then - other than the defense attorney - there have been no leaks - nothing. Maybe a gag order was issued with stiff penalties for breaches. I think the USA is unique in that you can get soooo much preliminary info. I live in Canada and there's usually a ban on publication prior to trial. We are totally in the dark until that happens.
