Van der Sloot denounce expulsion to Chile

Defense says Dutchman was handed over to Peruvian authorities irregularly. They also reported a public defender and translator who supported confession.

Defending the Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, the confessed murderer of the young Peruvian Stephany Flores, made it clear that exhausted all strategies to release from confinement. Yesterday it was confirmed that foreign lawyers would have planned criminal-defense as part of "Bury the Chilean government had handed over to Peru to the Netherlands on 3 June. The lawyers regarded the decision to expel Van der Sloot of its territory as arbitrary and illegal.

Highness Max Navarro, who is part of the group of foreign lawyers, said the Dutchman lawyer Bert de Rooij, who heads the advisory group, and another supporter of Van der Sloot accuse the government of the neighboring country for having "unlawfully expelled from their sponsored rather than extradite him. This article is as of June 9th and I'm sure is already here somewhere. If Joran actually ate breakfast over Stephany's dead body, then it just explains how warped his mind has been for a very long time.

Police officers escort Joran Van der Sloot during a press conference at a police station in Lima, Peru.

The chilling details of Joran Van der Sloot's alleged confession paint the picture of a cold-blooded killer.

The young Dutchman reportedly told Peruvian investigators he sat and sipped an espresso in his hotel room while the dead body of Stephany Flores lay sprawled on the floor, according to La Republica.

"I was going to use one of the traveling bags to take the body out of the hotel," Van der Sloot told police, the Spanish-language paper reports. "I didn't because I was afraid to be confronted because I was leaving without paying."

The 22-year-old ate several biscuits and reportedly took several amphetamine pills as he considered what to do with his alleged victim.

Fearing he would be caught, the paper reports, Van der Sloot showered, got dressed - leaving his clothes from the night before on the bed - and fled at 8:45 a.m. on May 30, less than three hours after he'd arrived at the hotel with Flores.

Authorities believe Van der Sloot had possibly thought to get rid of the body in the ocean, based on maps charting currents found in his backpack when he was arrested in Chile.

The body of 21-year-old Flores was found in Van der Sloot's room at Hotel Tac last week. The Dutch citizen was arrested days later in Chile, after fleeing Peru.

According to earlier reports, Van der Sloot allegedly killed Flores after she used his laptop and learned of his involvement in the Natalee Halloway disappearance in 2005. He is widely suspected of murdering the young Alabama high school student.

I remember having read up on expulsion vs extradiction from Chile at the time Joran was captured.

"“If he has committed any infraction against Chilean migratory laws, he could be promptly expelled and deported to Peru, after some administrative paperwork,” said on air attorney Roberto Miranda, one of the professionals consulted by Radio Capital. “But if there is no violation to any Chilean law, then we would need Chile to extradite him to Peru to face trial here, and that would mean another legal procedure.”

http://www.livinginperu.com/news-12...ot-arrested-chile-as-main-suspect-lima-murder

But Chile must have determined some type of law was broken:

"The Government has decided to expel from the country to the citizens Netherlands Joren Van der Sloot...Police sources confirmed ... that the decision was agreed by the Ministry of Interior on the basis of rules on foreigners."

I guess Joran's strategy is if you can't get one country to play ball, it's time to attack another!! But I doubt if they'll make much progress there, since the speedy interaction between Chile and Peru was praised by the President of Peru and the head of Interpol!!

"Chilean police praised by Peruvian President: 'We appreciate the speed with which they have acted to stop this alleged murderer (…) Chile has reacted in a very fast and in cooperation with Peru'."

http://www.thepulse.cl/2010/06/04/chilean-police-praised-by-peruvian-president/

“Van der Sloot’s arrest is a credit to law enforcement authorities in Chile and Peru and once again demonstrates the power and effectiveness of international co-operation between police in obtaining information to identify, locate and apprehend fugitives around the world,” added [INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K.] Noble.

http://www.interpol.int/Public/ICPO/PressReleases/PR2010/News20100609.asp

But, I hope even if Chile doesn't have the grounds to have deported him, the worst that can happen is he's returned to Chile to wait for several months until the extradiction to Peru is processed. Fingers crossed again on this one!!

Do we still have any American journalists down there or have they all come home? Maybe it isn't typical of Peruvian media to release much information to begin with and only happened with this case because of Joran's notoriety and other media being there? It does seem odd that information seems to have dwindled considerably. :waitasec: MOO

I agree. The Amereican news is almost boycotting the case now?
Nothing on HLN, FOX, CNN ... anywhere ... but saturation advertising
remains unmitigated. Does Joran suddenly not sell? Maybe too gruesome?

It's strange, but I haven't seen a single report in the Dutch or Peruvian press about Thailand's investigation into Joran and the two missing 'sex-trade' girls, even though CBS has reportedly confirmed with Peru that "Thailand was pursuing criminal charges against van der Sloot".

In fact, we haven't heard a thing from the Peruvian court re: Joran's psychological test results, the DNA testing, the hearings with the taxi drivers, the examination of his laptop.

Makes you wonder why the court and media in Peru is so tight-lipped now, when they've previously been so forthcoming with information.

Yeah, whaz up? I thought for sure we'd hear something of the new three man dream team.

Bolded by me....

In my mind, this has Tacopina written all over it!! What other lawyer would have the gall to say they plan to 'bury' another government! The only ego to come close to matching Tacopino's is Joran's!!!

MOO

AC, thanks for posting or re-posting this. I am freshly gobsmacked by JVDS's assertion that he
was going to remove the body and dump it in the ocean, but he was afraid he would get caught with the body because he "was leaving without paying." Why not pay the bill first? And then load out? The real problem had to be that he couldn't put a body in a taxi and couldn't risk being seen with Stephany's car. Joran tells stories he think will make sense to people (I killed her because she snooped in my laptop...) but all they do is reveal how bizarre his thinking is, how far from normal.

Murdered Stephany had casino winnings on her

ORANJESTAD/LIMA — The Peruvian student Stephany Flores supposedly had more than 11,000 dollars casino winnings on her when Joran van der Sloot murdered her in the hotel room. However, this money has still not been found. At least this is what gambling magazine Gamblng911 wrote, based on sources with the police.

"The attorney who represented Joran van der Sloot during his confession in the case of the killing of a Peruvian woman says that van der Sloot hired her to be his attorney, contradicting a claim he makes in a pending lawsuit.

Van der Sloot ... sued attorney Luz Marina Romero Chinchay ... [with] claims that Romero was imposed on him and that she became involved because she was in a relationship with a police officer.

... Romero said she became involved with van der Sloot after learning that he refused a state-appointed attorney and requested a private attorney.

...the two reached a verbal agreement that she would represent him. Romero remembers asking him about payment. He replied that his mother would pay his legal fees.

According to Romero, van der Sloot was calm during his statement and afterwards spoke with his mother on the phone. Her advice, Romero said, was her son not make any statements or sign anything. But it was too late.

Another contradiction ... involves van der Sloot's knowledge of Spanish. Romero said their conversation was in perfect Spanish.

She also questioned the truthfulness of van der Sloot. For instance, when he signed some documents after talking to his mother, Romero noticed that he signed very differently than what he signed on the police statement, she said.

"I told him, 'you signed differently' and he winked his eye and made a silence signal with his hands," Romero said.

He must be going through money at a ferocious clip. He had already blown though the extortion money...is it all gambling? Drugs? I really think the efforts posters here have made to figure out the financials are important. $11,000 is a lot of money for Stephany to be carrying around, although I suppose casinos are just the place to find people with cash.

Very interesting! I'm not surprised his tuned changed after getting advice from mama VDS I remember seeing the two very different signatures, too. What a piece of work he is - thinks he's slick as owl poop. All this wrangling has worked for him in the past. But, as I recall, in Peru fessing up brings a lesser sentence so he's only digging his hole deeper. His legal advisors aren't doing him any favors.

I thought somewhere in these many threads it had been decided she didn't actually have that much money with her when she left the casino with Joran? :waitasec: MOO

"Luz Marina Romero Chinchay was Joran van der Sloot's first attorney
She says he hired her verbally
Van der Sloot has sued her, alleging that she was imposed on him
Romero says accusations in lawsuit against her are not true"

"I asked (van der Sloot) if he wanted my services and he said yes," Romero said. "I told him the on-duty defense attorney was present and I asked him if he wanted to give a statement through them. He said no, he wanted a private defense attorney."

Van der Sloot wanted to talk to her about the case, she said, but felt uncomfortable with the others in the room -- the prosecutor, a police officer and a translator.

After the others left, the two reached a verbal agreement that she would represent him. Romero remembers asking him about payment. He replied that his mother would pay his legal fees. Then, the others returned to the room and he gave his confession to authorities.

Now, van der Sloot alleges that he never agreed to have Romero as his attorney.

"Romero said their conversation was in perfect Spanish."

van der Sloot showing "psychopathic tendencies"

The latest development is the AFP news service quoting the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio. AFP says the paper's website reports van der Sloot was examined by doctors from Peru's Institute of Legal Medicine, who found him to be "impulsive and showing psychopathic tendencies."

It is also bizzare (to me) that he's talking so freely about body
DISPOSAL ... on any level! Has it crossed his mind people might
connect his free-thinking-about-body-disposal-options ... to the
Holloway case? He's basically telling the world: 'I have some expertise
in thse matters'? Gulp! :croc:

THANKS JORAN. WE GET THE MESSAGE!
