From what I've read, she didn't know about his past. Her family found out about his past after he was id'd by the casino as being with their daughter. They went home and looked up the internet and were shocked.

JMHO
fran

I'm catching up here, but the Salsa singer recognized Joran from what he had learned while performing in Puerto Rico and went to security, telling them who he was and that he was a dangerous man. Maybe that is why the casino owner told Stephany's dad about Joran.

The "local" reporter Geraldo had on - was a woman. She spoke broken english. She was trying to convey the "attitude" of the people about it all. What I got was the authorities (govt) is handling this swiftly but the "international media scrum" that has descended on Lima is upsetting some. Plus seems they have some problems in the jungle now with a "societal uprising" (I think that's how she said it) and the people think all this coverage of JVDS is a "decoy" thats being used to not tell them what is happening in the jungle.

Did anyone else get this?

I've read and heard that lip-licking (excessively) is indicitive of drug use.

And chapped lips - common in high altitudes like Peru as well as during/after air travel. [Or so I hear. I'm not much of a jet-setter.]

No worries, we just have enough horrible criminals without having to claim Joran (Casey Anthony, Drew Peterson, John Gardner, Scott Peterson etc..)

You and your fellow Canadians are welcome here anytime, well except Crosby...you guys can have him back like yesterday. ;)

lol, I AM CANADIAN...and this made me chuckle. Not a huge hockey fan (watch the playoffs only) Keep him please!!!

I did catch the part about it being a decoy story down there, but not what it was drawing attention away from, so thank you.

I've watched him leave the hotel. He did not have a cup of anything in his hands.

There was an article on a previous thread about Joran showing his passport to the authorities at the casino. From my past experience, if you want to write a check for chips, you have to show casino cashiers a photo ID. I think that the casino was well aware of who Joran was and just how much money he spent with them. Paper/photo trail galore. IMHO. It's not like he is simply a slot machine head. He's a POKER player in more ways than one.

And that would also explain why Stephany's family looked him up on the Internet. MOO

I noticed that too - but they haven't released the video of him leaving to get the coffee and coming back with the coffee. Would like to see his "behavior" in those videos.

Concerning the extortion:

In sting operations, the FBI and other organizations try to get as much as they can. Thus, such operations frequently have multiple meetings and transfers. (Apparently, there were at least two of the latter.) In this case, from what we know, the meeting with Joran seemed to have given them only general, rehashed material. Because the FBI was still holding the large cash bait in abeyance, it would seem logical that they were anticipating further exchanges of information and, perhaps, evidence.

I think that the original FBI statement indicated that they worked with the Aruban government and I believe that they said they received full cooperation.

The extortion charge was announced only because and when the process had been irrevocably halted by the news of the new crime.

I.B., you are only seeing one video. From previous reports on these JVDS threads, he left two times after he initially entered the room with Stephany. We aren't seeing all the videos of the comings and goings of JVDS as of yet.

I have watched this repeatedly, and still can't get over it..... the fact that he seems to completely ignore her, absolutely confident that she will follow. That she seems so 'out of it', somehow. That when he leaves the room, after committing the most heinous, violent act, and seeing what remained, he looks so relaxed...

It is simply chilling.

CraigRivera: Jug tells him it was shock that VDS was able to slip t net in Aruba again
CR: jug describes him as psychopath
GR: agrees w/psychopath

Dr.B: it was a rage murder cause she resisted sexual advances

Since she was found fully clothed and is said to have resisted sexual advances, it tells me there might have been evidence from the killer on her clothing. That could well be the incriminating evidence they have, if it is true IMO. Remembering too we heard on Wed the skin found under her nail was Joran's. I don't know where that came from {maybe unconfirmed}.

You may be right. However, I thought that she (Freelance Peruvian Producer) was trying to convey that the Peruvians were not used to this; that the people felt their system was handling it too slowly! She mentioned a couple of days delay over something re VDS. Delay and slowness, perhaps, due to too many other important trials currently going on, problems in the jungle, not knowing how to handle something like this, etc.

Ugh, even a little mini forum would be nice for this case.

I know a whole lot of Websleuther's have worked hard on this case. If everyone could get together and get all the together (whoever is able) on this case, it would be so helpful for everyone. I'll do whatever I can after Tuesday. It really sucks to try to keep facts together when there is no forum.

Gotta say...you members here are pretty darn awesome!

I've noticed alot of the media is now referring to him as a serial killer. Geraldo tonight had a bottom banner that at one time said: "Peruvian authorities: He is a serial killer"

Other have said that LE needs to go check all the other places he's been.

Usually a serial killer has at least 3 victims (and most times many more). Why would the Peruvian authorities be saying this? Makes me wonder if their **ahem** interrogation techniques are being quite effective?

Sorry - she was hard to understand. You got more than me!! Even Geraldo had a strange expression on his face.
