There was an article wayyyyyyyyyy back in these threads (please don't ask me to go find it) but it said that mom had basically cut him off after his father passed away. So he was broke.

50000 Peruvian notes (SOL) = 1,7565 USD. Still a lot of money, but not as big as I would think.

Good find PrinceSSa! Would you be so kind as to go back and edit your post and put picture of 5000 soles in the title and that way when one of us searches in the future for your amazing find we can readily link to it?

Thanks! :blowkiss:

ok I think I got it figured out pheew! Misread your post the first time :waitasec:
:blowkiss: back to you

Are you sure it was $50,000 a month??? That's a lot of d*mn money in my book.

If that's true where did his family get $600,000 a year to give a kid for an allowance?

Wonder if we are talking American dollars or another currency? Just a thought.

For instance, earlier it was reported that Stephany had 5000 american dollars but it turns out she had 5000 in Peruvian currency. KWIM?

JMHO.

Right, could be euro's easily.

I'm pretty sure. And, yup, it's a LOT of money. I'll see if I can find a link.

On a real quick search I only found reference to it on another forum. And it didn't say per month. Just a $50,000 gambling allowance. Sorry for the inaccuracy and possibly spreading rumors. :blushingsmiley:

Do we know WHEN Stephany won the 5,000 soles? Was it before she took her friends home and stopped by her house or after she returned to the casino? Because if it was before, I would think she would leave the cash -- or at least most of it -- at home for safekeeping.

It's my understanding from reading all the news links here that Stephany did NOT go to the casino until after she dropped off her friends. She then went to the casino and met up with Joran. They were there for around 2 hours and that's when she won the money that is missing.

OT... I gotta hand it to Jean C. She's put in some tough hours today.

In case this hasn't been posted already:

The first absurved version of the crime that Joran Van der Sloot told to the Chilean police

such a liar!
Regarding what happened the fateful night of May 30 he said: "We were in her car when we were stopped by a white car with two men inside, police in uniform and shields (...) put us in the car and they started asking for money," he continued.

The most incredible part of his story has to do with what happened in his hotel room, where the body of Flores was found.

According to Joran, when they entered his room there was a man in the bed, who had a pistol in his belt, and another man emerged from the bathroom with a knife. He added that one of them hit the girl in the face.

Who were those guys? According to what the Dutchman said, their alleged attackers were the same police who had earlier asked him for money on the road.

I know it is a tiny thing in the grand scheme but I would sure like to hear someone that speaks Dutch pronounce van der sloot for us..I have heard Slooch, Slutz and I just would like to know how to say it,lol...so when I am screaming that name when I am so fed up with him I can say it correctly, lol:banghead:

One of the reasons that the detectives are disbelieving Sloot's "confession" (which tends to minimize his culpability) is the result of a drug test finding Sloot had cocaine in his body when his statement says he was merely an occasional user of marijuana. The recommendation will be to charge him for an aggravated murder leading to the max hard time.

Thanks, your info helped. But, you misread #3. What is the difference between requesting money from Beth for the details and requesting money from the USAToday (newspaper, or any other media source, not the USA)?

I guess in addition to the 5 questions, my main question is, how seriously would JVS taken an arrest warrant by the FBI? I would think he wouldn't care about it all, it would just be a nuisance to him.

1- No, extortion no matter what.
2- No, still illegal to extort.
3- It is extorting Beth, but the USA would be paying for info.
4- Most would, depending on their treaty situation with the US.
5- He would have to have entered US soil or been extradited to be arrested.

Hope helped some. This was a plan imo to make sure Joran served some time in prison no matter if they could not get him for the Aruba case. They had no idea he would murder the girl in Peru.

If Aruba would have come up with an arrest warrant dated prior to Jorans departure would Peru have to send him back to Aruba?

Dog - thinks once JVDS was caught, here's what we got, he was in a corner, that was it. JVDS fits that pattern. JVDS was treated fairly per Dog.

Thanks for that info and it works for me I am in total agreement, lol:woohoo:

Can someone explain to me how they can get such an exact TOD after two days of decomp? Or is the thought that there is something on the unseen coffee video that is giving the investigators that time of death?
My understanding of determining a TOD is that it can be given exactly...any thoughts?

TOD is always estimated and there are a ton of variables that skew results. It isn't possible to determine time of death forensically better than a relatively small window of a couple of hours even with a liver temperature very soon after death. The longer the body goes undiscovered the wider that window time frame is going to be.

It's a very inexact science, and there's countless websites that explain in detail how medical examiners estimate TOD and all the various formulas and variables that are used. This one is pretty extensive and isn't too confusing... http://www.writersdigest.com/article/?p_ArticleId=6693
Some people may find some of this info a bit gruesome though... some sites are so in depth that I wouldn't recommend them unless you have a pretty strong stomach. Dead bodies that have been hanging around awhile are... um... really really icky. I'm sooo going to make sure when I go that someone finds me immediately and cremates me really fast.

:slap: (I'm kidding kidding kidding, I've just always wanted to use that little icon or what ever you call it). :laughbounce:

I'm still shocked even if it's $50,000 a year. And for gambling no less. What a way to throw money down the drain cause the boy sucks at gambling.

 for clearing that up.

NG-How has JVDS supported himself?

Details of JVDS finances are unknown at this point. from Aruba reporter
I'm still catching up, so my apologies if this has already been posted. But it seem very relevant to what was just being discussed........

"Just after news broke that van der Sloot was wanted for the Flores murder, Dutch journalist Jaap Amesz interviewed a friend of van der Sloot's who described him as broke, "completely desperate and pretty depressed."

"I was in touch with Joran until right before May 30," the friend told Amesz. "He was in Peru. That was known. In Aruba, he couldn't deal with it anymore. His relationship with his mother was getting worse. He had gambled money away again. This is what preceded his flight to Peru. Right before the weekend, it was clear that Joran was in financial trouble, and he was pretty confused. Driven by hunger, the fear of not being able to pay for his hotel. He desperately needed money. I have never seen Joran so frustrated as in this period." "
