Right, Gecko---your quoting me above has it looking as though YOU wrote the post about the brother reminding of the father. The quote posting thingy has gone kaplooy.

Your last sentence which I bolded would seem indicative of TA having ignited or served as an "animus projection" if one takes the Jungian purview, which I do as I find it classical and still relevant, both.I'm channelling you and controlling your thoughts...tin-hat time ward 10.:floorlaugh::scared:
My take on the Arias' is conjecturing based on what we know. She might have had a distant father, even a 'perceived' distant mother, who is almost as expressionless as the daughter. But described as 'intrusive' by JA clearly wanting to assert her independence at very early age. I think her parents overburdened her with parental duties. They do not strike me as 'warm' people, but there must be some warmth maybe not understandable because of cultural differences. The mother was there every day, in dreadful pain for all to see, and every eyeball twitch made news headlines. She was very brave, but without a doubt was there for her daughter. Another family in terrible pain.
I think JA might have been looking in all the wrong places for 'fatherly'(priest?) love and guidance, her choice of partners and confidantes all seemed to be fairly staid older people. Her long term partner says nothing conflicting and he exposed his child to her, so he never noticed much either over the long term.
Her parent's have openly stated that she changed dramatically since her involvement with TA.

Yes, a projection of the animus/anima on both their parts which carries their shadows, respectively (because of all the unacknowledged baggage from childhood)- I think Jung and Jungians would have a field day with the whole relationship, but these types of concepts and theories are alas considered dated, or at least obscure, and do not go over in court, being totally eclipsed by DSM V. :desert:Do you think it was shadow type formation too? Because it might suggest they are opposing types, I think he is an estp/j, which would make her infp/j.

That is good to know.Oh dear it was more than a bit of a minefield...
Total misunderstanding of each others needs, and Jungians are having a field day, his work spanned many meta theories and was well ahead of his time, and to me still is. Having studied various approaches, self-reflexive phenomenology is as pertinent now as it was then. The myth has not gone away and is reflected in all behaviours. There a thriving Jungian communities and groups everywhere, I belong to one.
That is good to know.
Having been immersed in the world of academic philosophy, but being an avid reader of Jung on my own, I kind of took it as a quaint old community from the 1940s.
So happy to know this. Of course I knew there were Jungian institutes and the like, but did not know anyone was applying those theories to the Arias case. Would love to read some of it!!!
Ah, I see- and indeed, there is.Oh sorry, I didn't mean that I knew of anyone in the community doing it but it could make a useful presentation connected to Narcissus and Echo Samson and Delilah and the symbolism even of the Irises she sent, there's loads to explore.
Ah, I see- and indeed, there is.
And so many archetypal themes as you note.
And one could even apply Qualls-Corbett's work to Jodi's sexuality and its relationship with Travis' Mormonism and his fascination/repulsion regarding her ( The Sacred Prostitute: Eternal Aspect of the Feminine : Studies in Jungian Psychology By Jungian Analysts)
I think she operated with the belief that all men are fools, they are just to be used. I don't think she was ever in love in the true sense of the word. She sees people as prey.
I do agree Pinkie but I wouldn't be surprised that she knew very well how to manipulate females as well.
From all that I have read for many years people like Arias are incapable of love. If they love anyone it is themselves. Life revolves around them period. No one banishes a sociopath and gets away with it. They may not murder as Arias did but they will make it hell for the person wanting to escape their suffocating grasp.
She sees people as targets. She can spot their vulnerabilities and takes advantage of them.
The entire world to a sociopath is all about making themselves look better. Since they have no genuine emotions and feelings for others they simply work at making themselves 'appear' more worthy than they really are. So with Travis he had everything to make Arias appear to have it all. Nice looking guy, a go getter, great close friends, goals and had the drive to fulfill his dreams, a beautiful home, nice car....to Arias Travis had everything and I think she also liked the sex with him. Through that she knew she would be able to manipulate him by offering him a sexual no boundary relationship he had never experienced. That is why sociopaths are often very sexually active. It gets them what they want.
They know they must maintain an appearance of 'normalcy' and they can only do that through a chosen victim who is normal.
IMO
Travis was attracted to her because of his issues.
That is why it is good, when one realizes that his/her childhood was problematic, to take action and deal with the issues.
Otherwise, people remain vulnerable to play out their needs with others who are wounded.
thank you oceanblueeyes. Travis knew she was a sociopath, even called her one in an email. In other words he was "on" to her. Her dad said in the interrogation tape, how upset she got when he merely suggested she was bipolar. Do you think it was the email that was the beginning of the end for travis?I do agree Pinkie but I wouldn't be surprised that she knew very well how to manipulate females as well.

Hi guys! Love coming here and reading everything you have to say. Very smart, very insightful... I've been wonderidng about something, and would like to see if any of you have any thoughts on it.
Most of us believe ja calculates everything she does and says carefully. With that said I've noticed she uses the word "betrayed" quite often. I felt betrayed by my mom, the jurors betrayed her, her former cheating bfs, etc. Pretty much everyone. Why that specific word, and what disorder or idea is she trying to sell us? I'm sure it's something she read, and believes it will benefit her somehow. Is she trying to portray someone with abandonment issues? Imo, all these betrayals are outright lies, something she conjured up, so there's something calculated behind it. Always is...
