Yes... and a person with PTSD from murdering someone would not want a look at the autopsy photos out of "morbid curiosity"- EVER.

I agree totally, and she obviously wanted to look at them to form her story.

I want to add to this, though, from personal experience (PTSD - OKC Bombing - I was in my office across the street when it happened): I DID want to see the news, all the pictures, and I did follow the trial, but I could NOT stand to drive to my office every morning and see the area. I hated it when they imploded the building. It took me over a year to go my normal route to work. I still catch myself shivering when I drive past it every day now. But, I didn't cause it ...

Arias shows only relief in that she ended the abandonment she was feeling ... no PTSD there.

(I'm rambling ... just ignore me.)

In AZ, the judge can't change the verdict either way. But juries don't "sentence" people; judges do. So as soon as she is sentenced, she will be taken to death row, yes. But the jury verdict is not a sentence. Much like the jury verdict in the guilt phase is technically not a "conviction."

Now if the jury says "death," there's nothing for the judge to consider, so JSS could immediately announce the sentence if she wants to. And even if they say life, she could immediately announce LWOP/LWP. But typically sentencing hearings are set a month or two down the road.

In this case, perhaps she will sentence JA immediately just to start the clock running on all the post-trial motions Nurmi will want to file lol. :) Since she knows for certain that those motions are coming, and there will be no problem with jurisdiction for the omnibus motion until those motions are resolved, she might as well get things started.

Oops! I did not realize that AZ judges did not have the power to change the jury recommendation/verdict. Sorry about that. Next time I'll just wait for AZL to answer. :blushing:

There is an interesting Anonymous reader comment at this site regarding SOMETHING that happened at the Purple Plum after JA murdered TA. I searched around and found a WS post by Wenwe4 dated 4-9-2013 which summed up JM crossing LaV.

JM: You received info she was manipulative in her relationship with men shortly after the killing?
LaV: With what men?
JM: Any memory of your notes after JA to Yreka
LaV: Are you talking about her experience in the restaurant @ Purple Plum . . her interaction with men . .. indicated that she was

DT: objection - may we approach - you may

The DT successfully kept “whatever this was” out of the first trial; and the Purple Plum witness statement presented in this trial (through JD) was quite limited. If the commenter on Court Chatter is to be believed, the incident was NOT the “I’m new in town, show me around,” manipulation. Anybody know what this might be?
There was MUCH more having to do with the Purple Plum. But the only stuff I have been able to find was on the Juan Martinez Support page on FB. You have to look for it in the posts about purple plum, maybe back about a week now. I do not want to say too much, and don't know how true it is. but the accusation seems to be along the lines that it was NOT Travis who was the pedophile.

Speaking of evidence, perhaps it's just because I'm Canadian and therefore don't have a lot of experience with guns, but if I were on the jury, I'd like to have seen examples of just how big the weapons believed used would have been. Surely there's a range of sizes, but I don't recall seeing anything during trial that actually showed how big the gun would have been(would it have fit within her palm, been the size of her hand, etc.) as well as examples of the size of the knife it would have taken to inflict those wounds(hunting knife, one of those big chef knives, a smaller paring knife, etc.).

Many people are visual and just cannot process measurements on a piece of paper into the visual, like all the people who keep spouting about how such a small "girl" could have taken down a "man"(ie. TA wasn't the tallest man in the world, or anywhere near the heaviest and JA certainly wasn't a tiny waif, she certainly dwarfs JW.), then you add in JA's martial arts training, type of work(trays of food/drink, on her feet for hours, at least when she was busy running for those tips or after her ex bf's), etc. compared to someone who was battling his weight and basically had a desk job where the heaviest thing he commonly lifted was Naps and perhaps the trays of cookies he'd bake with his friends (not said to sound mean but TA wasn't exactly a jock).

Here's a pic, Val:

I think they do in some states, though. I seem to remember that was the case in Florida when the CA trial was going on.

Thank you kindly, AZL, for letting me down easy and saving some of my pride. :loveyou:

Then this tweet "Great. Kirk is doing Dr. Death-Demarte's cross. We can expect zero impeachment. #jodiarias ".

I think that Jodi expected her BFF, Jen W., to conduct the cross-exam of her arch-nemesis Dr.DM? That is why she was so pissed off...her DT likely may not have told her that KN was doing the cross this time around with DM or told her at the very last minutes prior to court resuming after lunch ? MDLR was simultaneously tweeting the debasing message about " Great, Kurt.....blah, blah, blah" Just a thought.

The Great, Kirk tweet is the one I'm referring to, that was posted just after the lunch break, at the beginning of her hissy fit.

That the DT might not have told JA who was crossing DM didn't occur to me. If accurate, wonder why not? Ignoring her constant input? Or leary of just what happened?

No, the Ten Commandments originated in Judaism, Old Testament. Moses received them on Mount Sinai from God, and synagogues usually have them written upon their ark doors. Mormons do consider themselves Christian. We have friends who are Mormon who have a large picture of Jesus in their living room.
Just a point of interest on the origin of the 10 commandments: historians have linked the 10 commandments with the Egyptian "Book of The Dead" (Chapter 125), circa 1800 BCE and also known as the Papyrus of Ani which predates the 1491 BCE Mount Sinai incident. It's not an exact replica of the Biblical commandments, but the similarities are most striking.

So because Jodi wanted to see a catfight between Wilmott and DeMarte, they didn't tell her until the last minute that Nurmi was doing the cross??? Wilmott wasn't any more effective against DeMarte, only more shrill. You can shake off Wilmott like a yappy Chihuahua. Still got her convicted.

Maybe JA sat there all morning fuming to her mit specialist and spent the lunch break yelling at her lawyers. :)

If your bored or housebound this weekend, this Marathon recap of trial One on HLN (televised a few months back) is worth it. It runs approx 3 1/2 hrs. Complete with "Bombshells" and "Headstands".

ps. Don't hate...I think Nancy Grace is pure entertainment and nothing more.

So that's why she didn't want to enter the courtroom. Hissy fit. Surprised she didn't try a migraine.
And to think I thought yesterday was a bad day, silly me! She's gonna have a rotten weekend...

Seems like the few of us hanging around today are enjoy a day free of the disgust that is Nurmi & Co. It is so peaceful here this afternoon :)

I have been reading the 13th Juror's posts today and the "Curious George" (Georgette?) in me has been trying to figure out if any of the commenters on his site are members here. Hope that doesn't sound stalkerish - it's just that I feel like I've gotten to know so many of you the past two years and I often wonder what you're like in "real life".

My son teases me about my "cat-lady " club (this forum!!!) but I wear that label proudly. Based on comments and avatars, I'm certain more than a few of my fellow WS'ers are also pet-people, and most certainly ladies. What a blast it would be to have an evening of brilliant, thoughtful, emotional conversation with all of you (adult beverages and Tex-Mex's food included!) I have no doubt that most of us have a lot more in common than just our desire to see justice served. Weird as it may sound, I am proud to be part of such an amazing group of smart, strong and incredibly caring peeps. Hope my "geeking-out" doesn't offend anyone.

I was thinking the same thing as well today!!

Things to know about me: I attend Bonnaroo every summer, I have two cats, no kids, never married, work for a Fortune 500 Company and could get fired at any minute for posting this while at work.

Not AZL but no matter what the jury is in favour of, JSS sets the sentence. IIUC. So until the judge validates the jury's recommendation of DP or LWOP it is not 'official'.

ETA The judge cannot upgrade the verdict to DP if the jury says LWOP but, iirc, she could downgrade the verdict if the jury says DP.
We are talking about two different things. I am not talking about a judge validating anything.
Sheriff Joe said one things. AZL is speaking of the omnibus issue.

Nurmi must think he is clever or something.

This is my take on why he called Dr. DeMarte "Dr. Death." Her name is similar to the Spanish language for "Day of the Dead."

I think it was rude and I hope the jurors thought so as well.

Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday observed throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Dead

The name DeMarte does resonate with Dia de los Muertos, but DeMarte has also tesitifed in 4 death penalty trials. In 2 years or something! That's a lot. IMO, KN should not have brought undue attention to the death component of Jodi's potential penalty. Bad idea to remind the jury what's at stake right at this moment and blazon that Dr. "Truth Serum" DeMarte falls on the death side of Jodi's life/death decision.

JA obviously doesn't consider either of her attorneys very useful for legal advice, and just as obviously, she thinks she could do a better job than either JW or KN in the courtroom. Especially on that impeachment thing, which she loves to prattle about.

The not-Nurmi thing is entirely personal. Her Four Faithful supporters are positive that KN and JA's mutual dislike is one of her strongest grounds for appeal. :)

I'm sure JA neither genuinely likes or respects JW. She just seems to think it upsets Kirk if she plays up JW.

Okay. That is better. Makes sense. A matter of semantics. What sheriff said was if she gets a DP sentence she would go to death row immediately. What I wanted to know is even of she gets the DP "verdict", JSS leave her in Estrella while the omnibus hearing is settled? You just said judge can send her up immediately. Not that I have much faith in JSS doing what is right. :) Thanks AZ
