Russian talkshows dismiss ‘fake’ reports of military losses

Pundits and officials turn to ‘mythbusting’ as evidence of Ukraine destruction undermines official line

Russian state television talkshows are describing videos of missiles striking Ukrainian cities and reports of Russian soldiers killed in action as “fakes”, as the country’s media try to account for photos and video emerging from Ukraine that contradict official reports of the invasion.

The “mythbusting” is one of the adjustments that TV propaganda shows have had to make as evidence of the growing destruction in cities such as Kharkiv and Kyiv makes it increasingly difficult for the government to present the fiction of a concentrated offensive in the Donbas region.

On Channel One’s Vremya Pokazhet (Time Will Tell), pundits and officials took on the reports that hundreds of Russian soldiers had died, in a sign that the information about casualties could no longer be kept from the public.

That followed stories over the weekend of Russian relatives describing shock and anger at finding out that their husbands, brothers and sons had been sent to fight in Ukraine.

“There’s an enormous wave of information,” said the Russian MP Boris Chernyshev. “People are showing fakes, they’re showing what are allegedly our dead soldiers. All of that needs to be stopped.”

Flightrader24 is picking up Russian Air Force flights over Turkey, heading towards ? Syria?

Some unnamed private planes heading out of Moscow, too.

Looks like Emirate and Dubai Airlines are flying commercial flights into Moscow.

This is my concern as well. Putin is brilliant, savvy and, usually, tactical. But it's very hard to figure this one out. US State department says they have intelligence that the plan was a 3 phase invasion, with negotiations in between, so that Ukraine could surrender.

The idea he might have had was that "While we intend to take your eastern lands, Ukraine, we don't want to obliterate you, so here's your chance to save yourselves. We are, after all, cousins." So a kind of intra-family feud, in which the powerful branch of the family eventually squeezes the weaker branch into submission. It's happened many times in history.

But I do believe he is very isolated, may not even be watching anything about the invasion, and only speaks with a handful of elder generals (who have been lying to him because they fear him).

He looks puffy and his voice was weak at times in his short address to his minions. Apparently his hour long history lecture went better. One of his former aides says he spent the last two years carefully studying Russian history, every treaty, every bit of history involving Crimea (Russia claimed it for a very long time and Ukraine agreed to certain things regarding it when Ukraine was created, and in 2014, Putin himself declared that Ukraine wasn't doing what it said it would way back in 1945 or whatever).

So he's obsessed, out of touch, and, IMO, has some kind of craziness that comes with a certain type of person getting too much power. Is he also in the throes of Parkinson's? Dementia? Long COVID? No one knows.
That's one speculation I've heard that may be the case, Long Covid.

"Long COVID is a range of symptoms that can last weeks or months after first being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 or can appear weeks after infection. Long COVID can happen to anyone who has had COVID-19, even if their illness was mild, or if they had no symptoms"

Memory, concentration or sleep problems
Anxiety
Fatigue

It seems like things can’t move fast enough, yet it is great to hear things are indeed moving.

Excerpt:
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague will hold public hearings starting Monday next week over claims of genocide in Ukraine.

In a statement Tuesday, the ICJ said public hearings will be held next Monday and Tuesday regarding “the case concerning Allegations of Genocide under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Ukraine v. Russian Federation).”

The amount of refugees these countries have accepted, so far. The EU estimates that 4,000,000 citizens may try to exit Ukraine.

As for countries, the UN says that by 13:00 GMT on 1 March:
  • Hungary had taken 89,561
  • Moldova 65,391
  • Slovakia 54,304
  • Romania 38,461
  • Belarus 329
Poland has so far taken in over 377,000 refugees, according to the UN. The Polish government says a further 50,000 are arriving every day.

51,797 people have moved on from these countries to others in Europe.

On Monday, the UN said that more than 670,000 people had entered these countries from Ukraine.

To get refugee status, they need to be Ukrainian citizens or people legally living in Ukraine, such as foreign students.

What being called "the last bastion of independent broadcast media" has been taken off the air in Moscow

Controlling the narrative as much as they can ... the narrative within Russia. So they don't continue to lose internal support.

Same with their threat/intention of blocking Wikipedia from the Russian people.

It is concerning that they have hit that huge TV tower in Kyiv, as that will likely stop many Ukrainians from their immediate local TV news.
