This is why we have a generation of young adults with zero critical thinking skills. Thinking for yourself is verboten in our public schools. And creativity is punished rather than lauded.

Welcome to Murrica.
You have hit it right on the head.
It is frightening. These kids are going to be our politicians, our future cops, our everything and they were raised not to think; just comply.

Critical thinkers don't make loyal Fox news viewers. They also turn into voters who want more than just jingoism and promises. Critical thinkers rock the boat.

Yep...just watched different perspectives and views of the video on youtube and thought about posting one here but then thought why bother.
There is one that shows that after being pulled from the desk she is up in the air and then slammed/dropped/thrown to the ground and lands on her back.
IMO

Oh, God. :(

That is sickening.

Sure we do. Perhaps you just haven't noticed because "employee did the job he was paid a salary by the public to do"-type stories aren't terribly interesting. How often do you expect to read stories like "cab driver delivered passenger safely despite bad traffic" or "line cook prepared meal without giving customer food poisoning"?

LOL

"Officer didn't throw child in classroom but could have if he wanted because he has the authority." Not a sexy MSM report.

So, what did you see Fields do?

Perhaps something like "the officer facilitated a rapid positive vertical displacement of the subject, followed by a rapid, controlled, and forcible negative vertical displacement, followed by a rapid horizontal displacement."

Those with authority over others are those that have earned that right through education, training and experience.

A 15 year old girl must obey that authority. Who was this girl to refuse the request of three in authority to leave the room.

Was the officer right? No he used excessive force but she should have complied in the beginning when her teacher gave her a direction.

So blame the victim.

So what do those in authority have to do to maintain order if they aren't to be listened to? What would you want to happen. Just sheer bedlam?

That's what would happen with no authority given to those who have earned it through education and hard work.

We weren't there. But from the looks on most of her classmates they were thinking..good riddance. They didn't look surprised or outraged by the incident. Seemed to be business as usual for that young girl.

First off, I think the students were likely thinking it was business as usual for Officer Fields, hence his violent nickname.

And IMO it is never appropriate to fight fire with an H bomb. Overkill.

Now don't forgot. "The officer responded to the classroom, then engaged the suspect." Gotta get the cop lingo in there more. LOL

Does it make me a bad person that I just lol'ed?

And scared my neighbor's cat who is hanging around the grill as I cook......buh bye kitty

"The officer responded to the crime scene and upon arrival feared for his safety and the safety of the civilians in the room."

I honestly can not comprehend this parenting style where a child is expected to never question anything and comply with all commands. How is that productive to learning or growing or being an adult?

I can’t either, especially considering that the United States was founded on the principle of challenging authority. But now people have just become sheep, doing everything they are told to do. And if anyone even thinks of questioning an authority figure, they are just a nail that needs to be hammered down. It’s kind of sad really, what we have become.

Exactly!
It makes my skin crawl to think what has become of this country. We have lost most of what made this country great.

I think the reactions were blunted due to fear...as sad as that is. IMO

True. Look what happened to the student who stepped up.

It would be interesting to find out how many times this guy has been called into action at the school. And yay for the one brave soul who stepped up and spoke out.

I see there' s been a lively debate here about this story. :D

I don't understand anyone not being revolted by what Fields did to that girl- it was violent, excessive, and completely out of bounds. I'm glad he was fired.

On the other hand, I have absolutely no patience for the behavior of that girl. She broke a rule in class, was openly disobedient to both her teacher and the principal, and disrupted the rest of the class throughout. The school handled the whole situation poorly, but it is not " blaming the victim " to point out that girl needed some consequences, just not the ones that were inflicted upon her.

Maybe I've managed to disagree with everyone all at once? ;)

You're fine. IMO it just seems to be such a small infraction in the scope of things. I also keep in mind her age. I know I did my share as a young person. IMO
