My heart was breaking every time he would choke up, saying her name and having tears shimmering in his eyes.

The speak of having specialists for the family … I hope the department(s) have some excellent services for their men and women who work the cases. I can't imagine what it takes to decompress/compartmentalize.

I saw a picture shared by a journalist that showed valentines cards made for Faye by her classmates. A lot of them said “please come back.” That just ripped my heart out. This is so hard to wrap my head around, I can’t imagine a child trying to process this. This is such a tragedy.

BREAKING: Police ID man found dead near murdered Faye Swetlik, deaths are linked
[...]

The Cayce DPS public information office said at Friday’s news conference that an item found in a garbage can led investigators to do another search of a wooded area near her Faye’s home in Churchill Heights. They found her body there.

Taylor, who is described as a neighbor, was found dead at his residence. Authorities have said they believe the deaths are linked. Taylor was not known to law enforcement and had no criminal history.

The public information officer said investigators had been to Taylor’s home and spoken to him this week as they searched the neighborhood for signs of the little girl.

Me too. God bless him. I can’t even imagine.

Police: Neighbor found dead 'linked' to Faye Swetlik's death
[...]

Cayce DPS Sgt. Evan Antley announced that the man's remains were found at his home on Piccadilly Square shortly after investigators found Swetlik's body in a wooded area. Antley confirmed that Swetlik's remains were found in a wooded area between her home on Londondeerry Square and a Napa Auto Parts store. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the man as 30-year-old Coty Scott Taylor.

Antley said investigators found a "critical item of evidence" in a garbage can that led them to return to the wooded area where Swetlik's remains were found. Due to the nature of the investigation, Antley did not provide any details on what that evidence was.

[...]

Chief Byron Snellgrove located the body of Faye Swetlik while they were planning that search. Fisher said an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, and officials refused to speculate on any cause of death Friday. Antley said investigators do not believe that Swetlik's body was in that area for a long time.

I think they are holding something else close to the vest. The talked to him and went thru the house, yet her body wasn't in the woods long. Where was she? And he has a roommate that found the body? or did THEY find it?

Edited to add.. i mean finding HIS body, not hers.

Happens, a neighbor abducts and does heinous things to the victim, murders the victim, and keeps the body around for a bit while they think of what to do with it.

Neighbor linked to death of SC 6-year-old Faye Swetlik
[...]

Cayce Department of Public Safety Chief Byron Snellgrove then discovered Faye's body around 11 a.m. in a wooded area between her home and a nearby NAPA auto parts store. Antley said that her body had not been in the area for a very long time.

A short time later, Taylor's body was found inside his home on Picadilly Square, which is also nearby. The coroner would not speculate on how he died until an autopsy is performed Saturday.

When asked, Antley would not say if Taylor killed Swetlik, but said he was a neighbor, and was not a relative or family friend. Antley did say there is no community threat, and they are not seeking any persons of interests and there are no arrests.

This is the back of Coty Taylor’s apartment 602 Picadilly Dr. Officials say he is the male who was found dead the same afternoon at 6-year-old #FayeSwetlik @WLTX

This sweet drawing was added to the memorial outside Faye’s neighborhood. Someone also set up flood lights, so her memorial will be lit at night. #PrayforFaye #JusticeforFaye #FayeSwetlik @abc_columbia

Okay here's what I gathered from the PC. Thursday morning they found evidence in the trashcan that belongs to 602 Piccadilly. Said evidence was something listed on the missing person flyer. <modsnip: removed reference to rumor>

Due to this found evidence LEO decided they needed to recheck an area and be even more methodical about it. While planning how they would search and the grid Snellgrove himself came across her body in the woods behind NAPA. Which explains yesterday afternoon's PC and my heart breaks for him. They believe she hadn't been there long based on their searches and on the forensic evidence. However they did not clarify if that means they think she was killed long after Monday or if she was killed earlier and dumped.

Either after initial scene securing or at the same time LEO went to 602 Piccadilly and found CT already deceased.

Circumstances of his death are still unknown to the public. As are the circumstances of hers. Both will be autopsied tomorrow afternoon and more information will be released after. They are still investigating to ensure he acted alone. They are releasing the 911 call. They are not releasing information about the state of her body when found because it would be insensitive (not good imo.)

CT had no record, was not known to LE. Was not a registered SO. Did not know family that they are aware of. Just was a neighbor.
