According to officials, the search has been unsuccessful but they have had a few leads such as scraps found in wood and red cloth that could have been part of Jayden's pajamas.

I wonder what they mean by "scraps?"

I wonder that too. Some kids will tear things, particularly when bored, as a way to fill a sensory need. I wonder what sensory needs J has. It's possible that means he was sitting somewhere for a long time and started pulling/tearing at his clothes. It wouldn't be at all unusual. I have clients that have torn wallpaper off the walls, or pulled drywall down.

JMHO! I'm not an autism expert, just a behavior therapist and ASD researcher with experience.

WMBF just updated the article again - they seem to be staying on top of the story. I didn't realized Jayden's dad didn't travel with them - he joined the mom when he heard the news. There's no indication that they're separated that I can see though. I'm a little confused.

LE sent volunteer searchers home for the nght but said the pros will continue to search tonight. I hope Jayden is found soon.

Do we know how they travelled? Just to put my own mind at ease ... If they flew then it would be very easy to confirm that he was on the plane? If they drove them surely they stopped to eat, use the restroom, stretch their legs, etc so there really can't be any doubt that this baby did make it to SC, right?

I don't know if this has been posted, but it makes it pretty clear this child wandered away. As always when small children go "missing" it's tempting to blame family first but this seems pretty clearly a case of a loved child who wandered off.

I agree. According to your link he disappeared while he was with his grandmother, which makes it less likely that something bad was done to him. What an awful holiday for this family. :(

It was in the UK article that they drove. Parents are not under suspicion. Mom was at store and came home frantically when grandma called. Dad was still in NY and came as soon as he heard. I honestly think Grandma didn't know what she was getting herself into agreeing to watch him. I mean for crying out loud officials say she had her front door left open and turned away a second.

Also an update: http://www.wmbfnews.com/story/27705131/missing-child-in-horry-county?clienttype=generic

Officials sent volunteers home for the night. Professional night crews only now. Volunteers meeting again at 7am.

I hope so. Someone said it was tempting to blame family but oh so many times it is the truth. After what happened to Tristan and Kenneth, I have very little hope right now.

Thanks! I don't think that family is involved at all. I was just looking to clear up that little detail and put my mind at ease. I wish we knew if the twin is able to tell LE anything (like which way his brother went or what caught his attention).

* I feel horrible for the Grandmom. When I first got my nieces I made a few really stupid mistakes that thankfully never resulted in any harm. I was used to having older kids that didn't need a set of eyes on them 24/7 and were always really good about following the "don't go outside the fence rule". The nieces were used to taking care of themselves, making their own rules and roaming the whole neighborhood so it took a lot of adjusting on my part to keep them safe. There is a very thin line between momentary lapse in judgment and tragic accident.

There are cases that I read and feel scared to death because I know "there but for the grace of *your choice of deity here* go I" (Jessica Ridgeway comes to mind) and others where I feel sick because only the worst of parents put their children in those situations (Cherish Periwinkle, Jenise Wright). I'm afraid this case is one of the first and those are the hardest.

Gee I really thought he would be found by now.

Have they look in the cars in the area?

I remember a child was found inside a car and also remember 3 children climbed into a trunk.

Does Grandma have a refrigerator/freezer in her basement, surely they looked.

No actual news story but photos of the search for Jayden:

Is this the area? If so, there's lots of water around. Would an autistic child be drawn to water?

ETA: According to authorities, the boy disappeared between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. on December 24 from a home on Sultana Drive. The search began shortly after, and is centered in the Wateree Drive area and North Horseshoe Road in Little River, just off US 17.

Yep that is a map of the area. Command is set up at the community's club house where that pool is on Vermillion. Today they were searching the wooded area to the right at the end of Hibiscus Dr.

I don't think it was an abduction, or that if it was it was one after the fact. Meaning that he had wandered off and was already missing when someone unsavory found him and took him. I also don't think the family was involved. There was just the same instance with Tristan Blue in Raleigh, where the father has been charged. However they waited hours to report him missing. In this case he was reported missing immediately, the LE beat the mom home even, and the local alerts and updates have been steady. I think he is somewhere in those woods hiding. I also think that's why the police sent searchers home tonight. Until 7am it's now just the pros out there and that may help them find him. My reasoning is that less noise and action may make him less scared.

As for the water and ponds, that was everyone's first concern but this afternoon LE announced they'd completed scanning and diving in the nearby ponds and had not located him.

Has anybody checked to see if/how many RSO's are in the area? With it being the holidays that may give us a less than accurate picture but it's a start. If a RSO is cleared to travel to another area for any reason is LE in that area notified?

Good question. I believe in one of the articles, maybe one from a NY news outlet that it stated LE was looking into that as well.

Here's a map with the command post, the closest bodies of water, and closest places that may have surveillance. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zC5gj3l6KPzQ.k7dogxXBNJi8 (it's a work in progress, suggestions for points of interest welcome!!)
Good job! Here's a couple additions. At the end of Hibiscus Dr is a pond. You can see it on satellite. The corner of Horseshoe Rd N. And Us-17 has a empty looking field and a church? That's actually a cemetery and a church. On the opposite side of horseshoe the second building back is a USPS office.

Thank you so much for your help and local expertise! :tyou::yourock:
